FLIR ONE Pro Thermal Image Camera -- Review & Unboxing (Awesome Freeze Dryer Gadget!!)

- Every once in awhile I get excited about a new gadget that I can use for freeze drying. The FLIR ONE pro thermal imaging camera is my new favorite freeze drying gadget. It's a multi use thermal camera that can detect cold spots and hot spots in your freeze dryer and freeze dryer trays. What does that mean? If you have frozen or near frozen areas in your freeze dryer trays, you need to add more drying time to your cycle. If you understand how the freeze dryer works, then you will understand that cold spots mean there is still moisture in the food. I like this camera because it uses the CPU, screen and other components of your phone (that you already use daily) and adds the thermal attachment via the usb-C or or connection of your choice. By using your phone, you don't have to buy an expensive all in one thermal camera device that costs $1000's. This can be purchased for Apple, Samsung and many other phones. It connects via an app and your charging port!

I already have a flir one. I use it for beekeeping to check my bees during the winter without opening the hives. I'm glad I can use it for my freeze dryer too! Thanks for the videos!
These are awesome uses for a tool with so many applications!
Great video! It’s going on my Christmas list! I do have one question. Am I right in assuming that you can’t “over dry “ your food? I’ve been adding hours if I can’t get to it when it finishes drying and I know it was probably finished earlier. Thanks!
i don't think you can over dry.
This is a really smart idea!
Great video! Thank you for the inspiration. I hope to get one, one day
👍
Love mine!!
Those Flir One doodad have a range. What temp are you looking for? Does the desired temp change depending on the food product?
So if it's not done. Do you do a whole new cycle? And do I have to defrost first? Or do I just do "add more time"? Sorry I'm new but loving your videos! 👏
Add more time but weigh your trays first. After your time is up weigh again. If there is no change in weight, your food is done. If there is a difference add dry time until there is no weight difference. No need to defrost until the food is 100% done
I am new to freeze drying and trying to figure out the best way to be sure it is done. You have recommended thermal gun, two prong moisture meter and now this. What have you found to work best?
The best tool is to weigh the trays and add a couple hours of additional dry time. At the end of that time, if the trays weigh the same, they should be done. If they weigh less, repeat the process until the weight does not change. The thermal camera works best out of all the gadgets I have tried though. The infrared and thermal will find cold spots.
I've been looking at these for quite a while ... was going to go with camera type but just had a brainstorm ... I still have my old phone I use as a hard drive ... could use the old phone and bingo! independent camera/flir. Can just leave it on there. ;)
👍
Can it see through things? Like walls or wood?
No. Looking through glass/plexi makes things invisible. You have to open the door to check the food.
Can it see through Mylar bags that already contain freeze dried food?
@@cindylynnmartin No, the metal in the bag will prevent it.
have you tried freeze drying a pork fat/skin then frying them while dry?
fat does not freeze dry fully. fat is similar to oil. The freeze drying process will only remove moisture from a food
@@live.life.simple. that's interesting. but can you make a crisp/chicharon out of a freeze dried pork skin?
As you speak, I checked the price. Showing $300-$350 Amazon/online retailers
Just spring for the FLIR Breach with helmet mount. That keeps your hands free to handle the food!
and look at all those cold air leaks in your home. 😆🤪
yep, you can see all the inefficiencies of your home!
