      You can only polish that pile of shit transmission so much. He covers pretty much all of the flaws with the design and sorta kinda talks about some of the ways to fix it, but there's a lot of that trans that you simply cannot fix.

      @@scottleggejr you're wrong there. All the top level diesel guys 2000+hp run a 48re. Duramax power stroke Cummins they all run a 48re because they have figured out how to build them strong as shit. Stock they are a joke we all agree

    • @scottleggejr

      @@iD0theTUBE That's why the 7000lbs 1000 horsepower trophytrucks in baja run culhane 4L80e trans for a thousand mile jaunt down the beach? How many 48RE do you see in drag racing applications? That trans is a notorious pile of dogshit. I assume the puller rules state that you have to run powertrain from the factory so they bolster up that pile of shit to get the cummins.

    • @iD0theTUBE
      @iD0theTUBE 4 роки тому +11

      @@scottleggejr @Scott L if you want to get technical most trophy trucks run a turbo 400. Some run torque converter sequentials. Only some prerunners use 4l80es. I think it comes down to gear ratios and possibly development. While I agree that a culhane t400 would probably work they almost all run 48res. There are no rules pertaining transmissions in the UCC event (sled pull, Dyno, 1/8 mile drag). The way the diesel trucks make power is way different than a high hp gas truck too. I'm sure that plays a role

    I've got 430,xxx miles on my '95 Dodge/Cummins, with 323,000 on the ATS Stage IV trans I had built & installed at ATS in 2001. I've towed heavy, street raced with the TC locked, and driven 90% in town driving. It's never let me down, and is still going strong. The trans parts in the above video are not ATS upgrades. I'm thinking the P.O. had the ATS "rebuilt" with stock parts at some point. And the fluid!! I change my trans fluid every 20,000 miles with 3.5 gallons of fresh Dexron III--with ATS you don't need the full synthetic stuff.

They sent me another stage 3 48RE. It came as a Modified 47RE case. It lasted about 12,000 miles. 2006 5.9 with nothing more than a SMARTY. ANDYS transmission in alpena Michigan rebuild it ... i demanded the gay purple be removed. A local transmission shop built me a 48RE that is still in the truck 183,000 miles later.

    In the diesel industry we used to refer to ATS transmissions as "Another transmission soon". Overpriced junk. Installed five different ATS Allison transmissions for a guy in one year because they kept burning up almost instantly, one we sent back because when we took it out of the crate the pins on the harness plug were corroded to death... you could tell they took a junkyard core, slapped a rebuild in it, painted it and shipped it without any testing at all.

    I did a 47 RH years ago; started to slip so I took it to trans shop. It was determined that piston seal may have rolled or had a cut in it; other than that I was told that everything was correct with rebuild. I was proud of myself other than the cost/ problem of having to take it somewhere for diagnosis. It was a good experience for me.

    Great video. I built more of those transmissions than I want to think about at a dealer. Was so hard to get them to stock selective shims. I had to get pieces and keep them on the side so I had pieces to work with. They complained about all my extra parts I kept. Constantly. I did it anyway . Good to see people that know what they are doing. Remember a little hard work is good ,a lot will destroy your body.

    Well, I guess it always comes down to the price. ATS must just do the absolute bare minimum to make a stock transmission just that little bit better. Is it really worth pulling a trani out of a truck, doing a bit of work and letting the customer roll off the yard? Not to me personally, but hey, they make the decision for their business model.
    The information provided and the technical know-how displayed is EXTREMELY rare and INVALUABLE! Thank you for taking the time to making this!
