- MY VERY FIRST VIDEO!!! The start of it all!
A quick video to help a friend understand the process of opening Hot Wheel cars and to prepare for tapping the body. I list the drill bit sizes you will need to first drill a pilot hole, then break the rivet head off, and lastly the final pilot bit to run a tap down to screw the car back together. I was not intending to post this video to UA-cam, so it is uncut and not edited. Never the less, our UA-cam journey begins! Thank you for watching!

Proud of you 🥰
Thank you my love. ❤ Hopefully I didn't wake you up. 😁
First off, never place the car upside down on metal shavings, you are asking for a scratch. Secondly, tape your 5/64th drill bit about an 1/8th to 3/16 of an inch down so you do not drill too far into the post. Stop at the tape edge, otherwise you can go right through the hood or trunk of the car.
Its fine to place the car upside down on metal shavings if you're repainting the car. Drilling should be the first step before any paint work. If you're wheel swapping then yes, best to put down a microfiber cloth on a clean surface.
After drilling countless cars, I can gauge the proper depth to drill the post so I do not use tape. Someone first starting off could use tape as a marker until they get the hang of it and are able to gauge the drill septh properly. Thanks for the advise, Lou. 👍
Hey mann can you give me the full name tou your drill your using indont want to purchase the wrong one please and thank you sirr
I use a battery powered Milwaukee Drill, you can find it at Home Depot. 😉👍
Perfect buddy!.....I’m managed to get that step done, she’s stripped and ready to see how to put her back together......hope this vid gets picked up by loads and not just me, very clear and detailed way to make the all important step into customs!!!👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
Thank you buddy, I appreciate ya. You've helped inspire me to get started sooner than planned and I thank you for that. Really looking forward to getting rolling and doing some collab vids with you. 🔥
Don't forget to use OIL when drilling!
Why?
Its personal choice but I don't use oil. I use Milwaukie titanium bits and they last a long time.
When you break off the tabs for the wheels how do you secure the new ones in?
Hey Scott, when I drill the cars Ill run a 3mm tap into the posts and secure them with very short 3mm button screws. The key is to drill deep and straight with your pilot bit, it makes the task very easy! 😁👊
@@HonestDiecast Scott was asking how you keep the new wheels in place. Not the posts to hold the base on.
Got it Mac, I misunderstood! My apologies! You can break those tabs as the interior portion will hold the wheels down anyways. 😁👍
How can i fix it if it went of center?
Are the screws self tapping
They are not, you have to drill then run a tap through. Self-tappers have a habit of splitting the posts because they are pushing a lot of material outwards as they get run down. When you run a tap, the material gets caught in the grooves of the tap instead of just pushing it out of the way.
Thank you my speed spider axle bended and unplayable now I changed the axle of the car and it's fix
Nice, great job on the repair! 👊😁👍
is there any other way?
You can try using a dremel bit and grinding the head off, but honestly I find the drill method easier.
Yes try a soldering iron
Nice!
Thank you! Not bad for a first try. 😁
Will try this soon ! Thank you for the video!
You got it, timZ! 😁👊
I keep messing up and I go off center
Same thing Ive ruined alot of hotwheels
Use the center of the rivet to help guide you in center. Do not snap the rivet head off until youve drilled down a ways!
what drills do you think i should get that is on amazon and is good for hot wheels and beginners like me?
I would recommend getting titanium bits. Even though the work is considered "light", titaniums will last longer and the risk of snapping a bit off in the post will be a lot less! 😁👊👍
@@HonestDiecast Okay thank you!
My pleasure! 😁👊
i made it to the first video!
Hell yeah! Thanks Brooklyn! 😁👊
Honest Diecast 👍 ohh and I was just wondering if you have seen my new video?😁
Ill check it out now pal! 😁👊
Honest Diecast thanks!
It feels like when I’m drilling it’s barely getting into the metal, even watching others it’s like y’all do it with ease one handed and what not, I’ll be 2 handed leaning on my drill with a vice holding the hotwheel and it won’t do anything I’m like Wtf
You may wanna try switching up your drill bits. I use the Milwaukee Titanium bits, they last a long time and have a good bite. Give that a try! 😁👊
@@HonestDiecast I think all it took was reading this comment lol, I already tried titanium bits and broke one, went back too the janky ones I was using and sun reason it’s working easy now
Very odd, I havent broken a bit yet (knock on wood). Zinc aluminum is pretty soft so Im suprised that happened. 🤔
Did you turn it on? 😂😂😂
I wish hotwheels would go back to making all metal bases
Yeah that'd be nice. Some of the bases are a lot easier to work with being plastic though so its not a terrible thing at least. 👊😁👍
Tomorrow I try again. Thanks for the video. If you ever want to try doing a hot wheels 55 BelAir please do so.
Thanks Daniel! Ive done quite a few, one of my favs to customize actually! Good luck my friend! 👊😁👍
What size tap and screws? I got 2-56 from other videos and the are way too small.
Interesting Matt, I know many use that size. I use 3mm screws.
@@HonestDiecast do they use washers? Maybe I got some of the carbody
Nope no washers. Yeah maybe you accidentally drilled through the base a bit? 🤔
What drill bits sizes do you use. Amazon link doesn’t work. Thanks
Sorry about that Aaron, I fixed the links! 👊😁👍
Thank you! Cheers!
My pleasure Aaron! 👊😁👍
Hey where did you get the screws
You can find them on Amazon or at your local Ace Hardware! 👊😁👍
what if the rivet is metalv
The rivet is metal slefts, its zinc aluminum and part of the body. During assembly the lower portion of the post is crushed and thats what keeps thencar together. 👊😁👍
Happy one year anniversary 🎈
Thank you my friend! Thanks for being so involved for most of it (if not all of it)! 😁👊🙏
Could i use a manual drill?
If you wish to but it might take you a while! 👊😁👍
@@HonestDiecastok because I don't trust myself with a power drill 😅
😄 Practice my friend! Or check out the EZ Jig from Eddie at Simple Customs! 👊😁👍
Epic video!!!
Thanks Diecastbuffet! Its where it all started! 👊😁👍
@@HonestDiecast you’re very welcome!! Diecasts are amazing 🔥🔥💯
Yes indeed my friend! 👊😁👍
