  • Last month I joined Brad Williams of Liquor Barn here in Louisville for a Four Roses barrel pick. Today, we recap the experience.

Hey Brian, thanks for sharing. I'd love to do a Roses pick one day. I just wanted to share that for some reason I tend to almost always really like tier 2 picks, no matter what the recipe. I tend to think it's that tier level in the warehouse that really brings the balance of proof, flavor and viscosity thru the climate and interaction with the barrel.

This was great!! Super informative and helpful. I should be doing my first Four Roses pick for my local store at the end of July. BTW are you applying for the MMC board? You would be a fantastic member! Cheers!!

Have you tried the Premier Drams Single Barrel Bourbon that’s sold on Seelbach’s? If so, what do you think about it? I’m thinking about asking for this bottle for Father’s Day

Plot twist: all of the samples were the same barrel.

So what do they disclose about the LEs and how do you compare them with the SBBSs.

They rarely mention run unless they talk about it in a private tasting so all you normally know is age and recipe.
The LEs generally have more expansive flavors, but still tastes like Four Roses.

@@abandonbourbon so do you think they have a set formula and age profile they are trying to hit? Hearing people who have tasted several different LEs there seems to be a high degree of variability with some releases really getting dunked on.

@@RealMirchahearing from Brent the last few years I think he has different profiles different years. 18 was pretty
Different from 19 which was pretty
Different from 20. 21 and 22 were sort of off for me, good but single barrels in the year I preferred.
