    It has been five years since the introduction of the NVH app and this video. The NVH app for iOS and "NVH for Android" apps are still going strong. The EVA tools and the Midtronix tool shown in this video are now discontinued. Ford/Bosch released a new NVH analyzer (The VCMM) in 2017 which appears to be a copy of the Picoscope system combined with the software interface of the NVH app, and PicoScope NVH is still going strong.

    I can't wait for the demo video! I want to see how I get my iPad Pro to do NVH diagnosis because it's so big. $400 bucks is a cheap price to pay considering the alternatives; but that's just my humble opinion after doing transmissions for 42 (gulp!) years. Keep up the great work. We all sincerely appreciate it.

    HI John, I have watch all your Videos and you are a one of a kind driveline Instructor. I used the Ford EVA NVH tools years ago when I was flat rate working at the dealer= hardly never. hahaLast year I started using Pico and there NVH tool. I Look forward to more of your NVH videos. It's nice to see how others are using the NVH tooling. Helps break the ice for a rookie like me. Can't wait to check out this APP.Thanks for all your time sir you really are a super teacher. Thanks so much Professor John for all your hard work and great videos.. I just viewed the Universal Joint series and just purchased the NVH app.. Guess I'm the newest Big fan. Am a subscriber now too.
    I look forward to using the app with my 2013 Tacoma 4WD... I have no vehicle complaint at this time (about 32K miles) but have studied a good bit about Tacoma drivetrain vibrations. . . Though my drivetrain is factory Spicer, I fully expect U-joints may be my first big Taco' problem, , , Hundreds of thousands of miles from now?😜 I'm measuring driveline angles too.
    I do personally grease the joints at every oil-change. I look forward to following your work, and wish you great success with the NVH app and all your endeavors.. Chuck De

    Ford's vcmm has a vibration analyzer thats really good from what I hear, my dealership has been too cheap to buy one.

    • @WeberAuto
      @WeberAuto  5 років тому

      It is only $5200 plus a laptop, LOL! I have seen it in action, it does work well (if you don't mind cords, cables, and boxes all over the place). It is a combination of Ford's latest scan tool with an overpriced copy (Bosch version) of the $3000 PicoScope oscilloscope and NVH kit built-in. Other than driveline balancing, the VCMM cannot do anything more than the $400 NVH app and your phone.

    These are great videos and incredible information. Thank you!! I just found this today, and will continue to search, I watched the drive line balance video, looks like it was on a 1/2 ton gm pickup. Do you have and videos dealing with what has been labeled the 'Chevy shake?". many 2014 to 2018 gm 1/2 ton pickups and SUV's have this shake and seems to be many different possibilities. So many unhappy gm owners and this info looks like it will really help to identify the problems, so am going to look at the site and the app. Any others info and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

    Hi Professor Kelly, I see that the Toyota NVH tool have a scale in dBg and the Pico in mg, is these to scales equal to one another? If not what is the convertion factor?

    • @WeberAuto
      @WeberAuto  7 років тому +2

      The dBg is for sound through the microphone attachment. There is no conversion to mg (milli-Force of gravity).

    Can you guys recommend anybody in my area who does NVH diagnosis? All the dealers near me REFUSE to diagnose my car due to the nature of the vibrations. It makes new vehicles look bad. Mine is a 2018 4Runner with transferred engine vibration throughout vehicle in PARK, NEUTRAL and DRIVE. It is always there and increases with RPM, both frequency and acceleration.
    I live in Hamburg NY, a suburb of Buffalo NY. I am willing to drive hundreds of miles if I have to. Thank you.

    Yes the NVH app seem to take the place of all those vibration equipment. And yes everybody should have at least a smartphone now a days unfortunately some people don't have a cellphone. Most people wouldn't even know how to uses the NVH app unless they where watching this video and interested in working on cars.

    Hi Kelly, I recently bought the NVH app on my iphone. Did a few diagnosis following your instructions but still having to deal with vibrations in my car. I drive a 2014 Mercedes benz E350 AMG 4 wheel drive. When ever the car starts, the engine steams well in Park and Neutral (Static Mode) but when gear shift to Drive (D) or Reverse (R) in Static mode the car begins to vibrate and I feel this vibrations in the passenger seat. I was recently involved in an accident which damaged the Engine mount, Engine hanger, and the Subframe.. All this part has been replaced and even went ahead to replace the transmission mount to avoid vibrations but still, the car keep vibrating in Drive or Reverse (Static Mode).. Pls what could you think I'm missing or needs to be done?

    • @WeberAuto
      @WeberAuto  6 років тому +2

      Hi, That sounds like there is a "Transfer path issue". That means that the "Normal" engine vibrations are being "Transferred" into your passenger compartment when the transmission is in gear (twisting the entire engine and transmission assembly in one direction or the other). This is usually the result of an engine mount, transmission mount, exhaust mount, or body mount that is bad , binding or misaligned. It could also be anything that both touches the engine and the underbody of the car when the transmission is in and transfers the normal engine vibrations when it should be isolated instead. Do a good visual inspection to see if anything is touching while in gear (with the brake applied). If you cannot see anything, then you can test each mounting with your phone. See the Diagnostic help file in the App under "Engine Speed Related vibrations" Best wishes!

    • @mimimaureendavid8326
      @mimimaureendavid8326 6 років тому +1

      Oh thanks WeberAuto. As explained in one of your video (ua-cam.com/video/VXfMghCyzGk/v-deo.html) testing each mount with my phone. I followed your procedure and came up with (E2) 2nd Order Engine Speed related vibration while the engine is in gear and AC off, then I ran another diagnosis with engine in gear and AC ON, came up with (E3) 3rd Order Engine speed related vibration. Then I ran another diagnosis with engine on in park and neutral without AC. Diagnosis results (No Vibrations Detected).. Prior to this, I've had my mechanic check the exhaust mount which he said is intact, he had to loose it down, checked the body mounts which is also intact. I bought a new genuine transmission mount with the engine mount but the Engine Mount Bracket isn't new (the Mount Bracket is directly tighten to the engine and tighten to the engine mount) sorry I think you know all of this already lol but the mechanic got a used old one for the Mount Bracket (L&R) but the engine mount is new. Do you think this could be a problem with the engine Mount Bracket or being misaligned or does it have a settings or could the Mount Bracket be the wrong one for it or is there anything we could be missing?

    sadly it's very expensive for a dyi, I'm looking for an app that record raw data from phone sensors, then I don't think it's very hard to do some processing with Matlab.. or even excel.

    Have you considered, or is it all possible to offer the app with a limited time subscription for cheaper?
    For example, I have a vibration issue I would like to diagnose on my car, but I am not a professional mechanic so I will only use the app to analyze my car once and hopefully not have to use it again for a long time. So, if the app was available for something like $50 with a subscription for a few days (much like online repair manuals are available), then I, and possibly many other people, would be willing to pay that lower price for esentially a one time use of the app.
    Obviously I would like that because it would save me money, but it might also bring you a lot more customers.

    • @siliev1991
      @siliev1991 8 років тому

      To add to this, one way I could think of how to do this is to require some sort of login when you start the app in order to use it.

    • @WeberAuto
      @WeberAuto  8 років тому +1

      Hi, thanks for the feedback. Apple does not allow trial versions of apps. The NVH app will tell you exactly what is causing the vibration on your vehicle, why it is vibrating, and how to fix it. That is something that most mechanics/technicians cannot do. It is expensive, but so it guessing and purchasing unneeded parts. Best wishes.

    • @siliev1991
      @siliev1991 8 років тому +1

      Well, I thought I would just put this suggestion out there and if it were possible it may benefit people in a situation like me as well as you.
      But anyway, I completely agree that $400 is still a good deal since it might cost you the same amount, if not more, for a mechanic to do the diagnosis for you (and possibly not be correct).
      In the end, I will probably just need to buy this in order to find the problem myself.
      Thanks for creating this great tool.

    Do you think there will be a DIY'er version for less money? hah. I would love this app, but no way going to spend 400 dollars. Would just recording the data, finding the up and down component of the accelerometer and doing a FFT in matlab yield similar results? is there reference on this theory?
    Thanks.

    • @WeberAuto
      @WeberAuto  8 років тому +4

      Thanks for the feedback. It is an expensive app, but it is the least expensive NVH analyzer on the market. The next higher priced one is $2600. A DIY version of the app would be difficult because if we leave anything out, the app will not function as designed. Anyone with math skills can do an FFT; it is the 22 years of automotive vibration diagnostic research, work, and experience, built in to the context-sensitive help file of the app that you will not be able to replicate. All of that is included this new NVH app. Best wishes.

    OK so I just watched a video by the actual engineer and publisher of the app and his test was an able to isolate where the vibration was coming from. All it was able to do was give him a list of about 20 possibilities. This is the actual engineer. I would never waste my money on an unproven app without some kind of trial. Or refund if dissatisfied.

    • @WeberAuto
      @WeberAuto  3 роки тому +7

      I am that engineer and I made the "list of possibilities". I know this is a late response, somehow I missed it when you posted it. Thanks for your feedback.
      I think there may be a misunderstanding of the app's diagnostic process. The app will tell you the type of vibration your vehicle has. Vibration types include tire speed-related components, driveline speed-related components, and engine speed-related components. Additionally, it will tell you the "Order" of the vibration type. For example, does it create one shake per revolution, two shakes, three shakes, etc? Each vibration type "order" is caused by a unique and specific "list of possible causes".
      No other app or software package in the world will give you all of that information for this low of a price. No app or software package will tell you the "exact problem" with your vehicle, there is always additional testing and measurements that must be performed to narrow down the exact cause. Our app gives you step-by-step instructions and videos on how to narrow down the "List of possibilities". Nobody else gives you that information.
      This app is backed by 27 years of vibration diagnostic experience and software development. it has been tested, proven, and approved by several large vehicle manufacturers, parts suppliers, and training organizations.
      We cannot offer a trial version of the app. A person could simply use it to diagnose their vibration problem for free and then never purchase the app. The most common complaint we receive about the app is the price. Now we have lowered the price. Have a good day.
