Does anyone know why Dr Esselstyn prefers us to eat more cook leafy greens rather than raw? I think it has something to do with easier digestion and more absorption thus more nitric oxide, but not sure.
What I understand from Dr. Esselstyn (he was on three or four videos on his daughter’s UA-cam channel Jane Esselstyn so go there). For his heart patients, he is happy when they boil several handfuls of leafy greens for 5-8 minutes (boiling helps soften down the cell cellulose walls of the greens) then anoint few drops of balsamic vinegar over the greens then chew the greens well before swallowing. Do this 6 times a day…(Don’t use fluoride toothpaste, mouthwash or take anti acid tablets…I’m trying natural toothpaste called Auromere)…the amount boiled greens should be fist sized as ur closed hand….greens really shrink down after boiling. Ann Esselstyn suggested using a thermos if u need to bring boiled greens w u during day at work or trips. Yes, it raises nitric oxide in your body & again it is for his heart patients but many of us have heart disease or vessel plaques and don’t know it so advice would benefit us too so we can reverse them….if u have one known plaque actually u have more than one in ur system. U know it’s systemic……arteries go every where even to your eye retinas!
He says it's because it makes the plant nutrients more bio-available. He also recommends adding balsamic vinegar drops. This creates a compound called dimethyl-1 butanol, a substance which fights against TMAO. Dimethyl-1 Butanol also comes from consuming red wine but he doesn't like any of his patients to consume spirits.

So is it possible to get rid of much of the plaque?. Some medical people say no. Pridican is said to have cleared away his plaque when an autopsy was done on his body.
Most people can get rid of some of the plaque if it's more of a recent plaque build up in the last year or so. The old plaque that's been in your arteries for many years will most likely not clear up. A good plant based diet will clear up any recent plaque build up and the old plaque build up may not dissolve but the endothelial cells will be so healthy that your body will have lots of nitric oxide thus relaxing your arteries, so the arteries will dilate and your blood will also no longer be sticky. A healthy endothelial protects you so a partial blockage will not rupture causing a heart attack, stroke or sudden death.
@@georgemarino434 Hello, I would like to have your opinion, I had angina and I had been following the plant-based diet for 18 months now, I admit that I feel a clear improvement (weight loss, normal blood pressure, perfect lipid balance) , I still have a concern of this pain in the chest when especially running, is it normal that the angina pectoris takes time to subside
My father in law is 96. I have never in 40 years seen him raise a piece of lettuce to his lips. He eats mainly white potatoes a few carrots , tomatoes , chicken, beef, eggs and blood pudding. He goes through more 2% milk than a baby cow. So is he unique. What is it about him that is different. Again he is 96 and I do not see him slowing down. He just walks with a walker now…..
What sets him apart? Certain individuals are fortunate in the genetic lottery; one person can flourish on a diet that might prove fatal to thousands. However, I wouldn't consider that diet a reliable path to follow, as it's akin to playing Russian roulette with a one in 10.000 chance of success. Who knows maybe your wife will be lucky to have his same fortitude. It's akin to what the seasoned gambler would say: we play the hand we're dealt.
Stickiness is caused by glycation. I.e. when glucose attached itself to various elements such as LDL. Glucose comes from carbohydrates such as cereals. So a plant based diet of vegetables will reduce stickiness for sure but pasta, rice, bread, potatoes which are all 'plant based' will increase blood glucose levels and exacerbate the processes. Ps. There is a cycle in our body that converts Nitrates to Nitrites to Nitrosamines to Nitric Oxide. Sunlight helps creation of Nitric oxide. And cured meats contain nitrates and nitrites that are derived from celery and they don't have carbs, so enjoy your bacon and eggs but leave out the cereals.
Most of this video was Great video thank you. The questions is whether your claims that plant based nutrition will prevent this smOxLDL etc. Professor Ronald Kraus whose lab showed it was carbohydrates that drove this process - not saturated fat and animal based proteins - much to his surprise and he had to change his mind.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH !!!! Very well explained and easy to understand. Please, don't get me wrong, but those almost common meals described at 3:00 and 17:20 mins are a mess. Tons of carbs mixed with fat and meat. I think that studies should be done about nitric oxide + carnivore diet, too. Maybe we'll finally find the obvious. In nature is almost impossible to find a meal rich in fat, animal protein, and tons of carbs at the very same time. And this can be the trigger...
Can you recommend supplements? I'm not ready for a total plant-based diet. L-ARGININE AND L-CITRULLINE perhaps? If so, how much, how often for 68-yr. old
Dr. Esselstyn doesn't recommend supplements, accept vitamin B-12. You cant get nitric oxide in a bottle, you have to eat it. If you're not ready to go plant based yet then just do the best you can. Start one day a week with absolutely no meat and dairy. Then after a couple of weeks try two days a week and so on. The days that you are eating meat and dairy try having as little as possible while eating more and more dark leafy greens with other fruits and vegetables each day. Keep in mind by eliminating meat and dairy you are literally putting out the fire of inflammation that causes havoc within your body. Eating the dark leafy greens multiple times a day while eliminating meat and dairy will heal your endothelial cells which will increase that magical molecule called nitric oxide thus recovering your cardiovascular health, reversing heart disease and allowing you to enjoy a long healthy quality life style for many many years.
The only supplement is B-12(2,500/week). Stop all other supplements. He also supports the use of patient-physician statins even though he hates the drug itself.
I eat no meat, my bad cholesterol went down. First i gave up just beef and pork and that alone satisfied the lab test, later i gave up chicken and turkey. I still eat fish, cheese and eggs but I think I am doing pretty good.
@@BlackMamba-lt8oe Starches in of themselves are not an issue. However, the combination of ultra refined starches (flours) and industrial seed oils (cold pressed are much better) are very damaging. The resuse of seed oils in the frying process that is common in most restaurants creates many toxic chemicals. Lard, tallow or coconut fats are far less prone to oxidation and healthier choices.
I wonder if Richard Arvin Overton had studied this stuff? Even at the age of 112 he insisted on having Ice cream every day and it had to be butter pecan. He said it makes him happy.
Anecdotal evidence is not useful, as people tend to believe what they want to believe and then pick extreme examples. Besides, Mr. Overton might have done a lot of other things right for his health, and it was probably a very small portion size of daily ice cream. Studies about people surviving past 118 years of age suggest, that they all had a very healthy lifestyle. Jean Calmont is an exception, but she probably was a scam artist, who pretended that she was her mother when her mother died to get the pension of her mother. (She also made a contract with a lawyer, where she got a monthly payment and after her death, they would get her apartment.)
@@timpellemeier587 People say Jeanne Calment was a heavy smoker but it was really 1 cig after lunch and 1 after dinner and she was very fit riding a bike outside till age 100. Maybe she was not 122 but about 102. Heck, even Paul Bragg lied about his age. Lots of lies maybe even Pritikin autopsy was faked.
There was a 104 year old lady, she drank 3 cans of dr.pepper/day for years. She called this her secret for longevity. She looked extremely healthy and could hold long conversations at her age. Her doctor said she should stop this bad habit for many years. But she outlived the doctor. Generally, people pay way to much attention to food and drink habits of (super)centenarians. It's just 1 factor. There are probably hundreds of factors that contribute to extreme longevity. Genetics being the main one.
About 4 years ago in my local NJ paper was an article about a 102 year old daredevil named Kenny Meyer who became the world's oldest skydiver. He would start each day with 2 eggs sunny side up. He was very health conscious and fit and a wonderful man to all that knew him.
No, most people will not stay healthy with that many eggs a day. Too much cholesterol, saturated fats and animal protein. All three are associated with disease.
There is a lot of misinformation here in this video. For example, why do so many vegetarians and vegans die of heart attack and have high blood pressure, high ldl m, diabetes each year and all the markers for chronic inflammation? Chronic consumption of carbohydrates is the culprit for all this disfunction in the cardiovascular system. So much big agriculture money sloshing around the place, it's a disgrace.
O.k. So within the first hour or two the blood vessels had evidence of inflammation. How long does it take the fat in the stomach to get into your intestines and be absorbed into your blood stream? Are you sure that it was the fatty sausage and greasy hash browns that were the cause? I don't think there was enough time lapsed for a meaningful amount of fat to get in the blood stream. However what certainly could have caused vasoconstriction which could mimic inflammation would be the two or three grams of salt that they consumed in a few minutes. I submit it was the salt not the fat that was the immediate cause.
You are brave to even enter into this talk with the cult of green. I was totally down with this guy until he said plant based. BRITISH AND MUSLIMS both became meat eaters and educated hindus became meat eaters for the first time. so ayurveda (auyr=life veda = knowledge) were right about these when they added the YOGA and pronayams (breathing tech that controls heart and circulation ) . i just wonder how they came to this conclusion to eat more fruits and vegetables for healthy life style ? i am puzzled !

Yes indeed, he fails to mention oxidation which causes inflammation, sugar is sugar is sugar and is oxidative and inflammatory (Diabetics lose limbs, kidneys, eyes etc… over this) the endothelium is damaged by oxidative stress, the WBC’s signal an immune response, so what is one thing cholesterol do? Repairs cell membranes!!!! The patch on the injury! What Carry’s the cholesterol to the injured site? LDL. Then HDL Carrie’s the excess back to the liver. This is a simplified explanation but is a better explanation than the LDL some how “slipping through a crack in the endothelium”….
Whole grains are healthy and even play a part in reversing a number of diseases because of their fiber and minerals. There is no science against whole grains, but most people eat refined grains and bleached flours that are not whole foods.

Carbohydrates, starches, vegetable oils, sugars. Not sure why you mentioning healthy eggs, healthy meats and healthy fats. To be sure having modest amounts of fibrous vegetable carbohydrates are important. We have sufficient data indicating the misleading national nutritional guidelines for the past 60 years. Still a very good presentation
I appreciate the drawings but with all due respect, even though I am not from Yale or Harvard or any Ivy League schools, everything you said about cornflakes and sausage is half-truths! You cannot prove from that "experiment" that it is the sausage that is causing vassal constriction because for one, the sausage and whatever that accompanied that meal was cooked in seed oil. Cornflakes is full of sugar but to choose between the 2 poisons, like Dr. Bitman said, I would choose sugar any time. Just kidding. Corn flakes is another American trash - human dogfood. Just some sincere advice: without considering your face and skin, you do not look healthy and robust as younger people who have healthy endothelial cell functions because of their on-demand nitric oxide production capacity. How do I know? Your posture and lung capacity are giveaways. Thank you for your effort and unconditional love to you.
Hardly anybody is going to embrace a plant-based diet. So if your goal is to help people it's not a very realistic suggestion. If people really can't get LDL down then maybe a statin is the only answer.

You need to discuss direct nitrous oxide supplementation through exercise and inhalation of scuba diving nitrox. It is probably rare.
Nitrous vs nitric oxide
could you talk about the effect of Plant based diet on high LPa?
So is it possible to get rid of much of the plaque?. Some medical people say no. Pridican is said to have cleared away his plaque when an autopsy was done on his body.
Pritikin traded one problem for another as when you have low cholesterol you have more chance to get cancer. Don't take any advice from Pritikin.

Add in some orange juice and it sounds like he's eating...and drinking...a Ray Peat diet.
Thank you very much.

Eat red beets or drink bet juice for that nitric oxide quality and quantity

Pasta, rice and bread are processed foods
If I google 'nitric oxide and heart attack' I see that one does NOT want to increase nitric oxide. Why not?

Most of this video was Great video thank you. The questions is whether your claims that plant based nutrition will prevent this smOxLDL etc. Professor Ronald Kraus whose lab showed it was carbohydrates that drove this process - not saturated fat and animal based proteins - much to his surprise and he had to change his mind.

Always love and always highly respect, Dr. Esselstyn!!! Much love!!!

Nitric why not support with supplements ?
Can you recommend supplements? I'm not ready for a total plant-based diet.
L-ARGININE AND L-CITRULLINE perhaps? If so, how much, how often for 68-yr. old
Do your best and then pray
@@georgemarino434 Thank you! Great info!
The only supplement is B-12(2,500/week). Stop all other supplements. He also supports the use of patient-physician statins even though he hates the drug itself.

Much of the damaging food described here are starches cooked in seed oils which are the problem, not eggs.
how are Japanese that eat starches alive after 110
@@BlackMamba-lt8oe Starches in of themselves are not an issue.

He is a lucky anomaly.

There is a lot of misinformation here in this video.
For example, why do so many vegetarians and vegans die of heart attack and have high blood pressure, high ldl m, diabetes each year and all the markers for chronic inflammation?

I thought LDL is not the issue but small size cholesterol?
all cholesterol is issue

No proof of that in fact whole grains can be beneficial (if you’re not celiac)
I think that's absolutely true if they are processed. They act like sugar in our bodies.
Absolutely correct. It’s about inflammation caused by metabolic syndrome and insulin resistance (too many bad carbs)
