Thank you for the explanation. When buying a tea brand, we can conduct a test... if it's plastic, we can avoid it. Nano plastics are currently the biggest environmental concern; we are ingesting them excessively.
The traditional teabag, sealed around on 4 sides, is paper with plastic on the inside. The entire inner surface on both sides of the bag is covered in a thin layer of porous plastic. When the teabag is cut to shape, it is also heat sealed around the outer edge. It isn't glued. So, all teabags have plastic. Loose leaf is the only way to get plastic free tea. Even then, if plastic has been used at some stage to contain the tea, you'll still have a small amount of plastic.
I composed my teabags and noticed even the paper which has no plastic doesn't degrade very well so i stopped bothering, I rip open the bag of tea and throw the empty bag in the bin.
The paper-plastic composite bags (1:08) are quite deceiving. They look almost like paper and many times rip like paper. But luckily the burn test reveals them.
I just tore one of my Yorkshire teabags. And it tore like paper. I saw another video from another channel where they actually tested. Yorkshire teabags about 4 to 5 years ago and they failed. The plastics test seems they may have actually moved to making proper biodegradable teabags in the interim.
Interesting, you see this is now a year old video, maybe I should update it. How are they burning? Some of the plastic bags are just a bit harder to rip than paper ones, it might be almost the same. How do you know they are plastic?
Thank you very much. I learned that these paper tea bags can still contain small amounts of plastic for sealing, etc. Can you make a test for it? For example, we can dissolve the paper (cellulose) with a solvent. If it's fully made of cellulose, then it will be totally solved
The paper ones often have plastic woven into the paper fibres so this is not a good test. Also ones that feel like plastic can be bio plastic (industrially compostable)
Yeah, it's sad. You gotta be pretty careful these days with your tea bags these days. I compost so I always make sure they're paper. Otherwise I would have plastic in my compost.
Well you see probably because I was nervous AF making this video.Dont know much about editing etc. I'm not saying I know everything, I tried to do something. This video is quite old by now. I probably should make a new one. So if you want to see that please sub and let's see
Not 100% sure, for this burn test it would look more like paper I think but it would probably still release microplastics. I am now working on video with plastic liner of paper coffee cups. When removed the liner is like that a thin line of plastic with some paper sticking to it, so it burns more like a paper. Hope this answers it.
Not sure if tea is safe to drink, there is also evidence they put pesticides and other chemicals to grow the leaves. Maybe you can make a video on that.

Just buy loose tea instead

Thank you for the information! Some of my tea definitely has the plastic bags. I’ll be getting rid of those ones.
So less views, but thnx for upload! Eyes opened...

Thank you I was recently wondering about this, but your video just randomly came up & I didn't look it up! Very helpful thanks again
The pyramid ones - if it's TeaPigs brand "silk" style - if you read the box they're made from wood cellulose
They were not that brand. Now I checked their website and to be honest I just don't believe this new materials.
thank you for spreading awareness of this. I wish more people knew
Very well explained and demonstrated. God bless you
Never thought to do a burn test, thanks for the great idea

I don’t think the tear test works....I find Twinings tea bags tear really easily but they have plastic in them 😢

Thank you for making this wonderful video.
Excellent video! thanks
Wow AWESOME information. Will take herbs out of bags heat hot water and strain herb . ❤Thanks 👏👏👏👏🙏
Wow.....avid tea drinker. Ditching all bags and doing all loose leaf from now on
Bigelow and Stash tea are two brands that apparently don't use plastic. Still, loose leaf seems the best bet, more environmental too

Burning it should tell. If it's cellulosic it'll burn like paper if it's plastic it'll melt kind of like tar
I have cellulose tea bags with plastic materials. They also burn like paper. Only %100 plastic tea bags melt in fire.
Very informative! Thanks for sharing. Subscribed.
Thanks for the sub! I need to make more of videos :)
Any replacement of tea bags?im not talking about loose leaf and all
so is paper ok or harmfull too?
plastic however is horrible
Tea leaves are edible so I just cut the tea bags and pour the tea leaves into the water.
Why not then use loose tea?
Please subscribe :) there will be new videos on microplastic and plastic pollution in general.
Deserves a like!

I prefer loose leaf or brown paper tea bags.
so if teabags lit up like paper, it's good to go?
Hello sir paper also bleached in some harmful chemicals it's true are not?
Thank you. This helps me so much 🙌
Many thanks.
Good info however the paper may be bleached with chlorine and that is alos bad for you isn't it?
What do you think?
I appreciate what you're trying to do, but the video is a bit long winded! You could have made your point in under 60 seconds.
@@tracy9157 thanks for feedback. Maybe I should I should do it shorter.
@@trashtalk9362 it will also help keep viewers from switching off and more views as the clip is shorter
Loose tea is best option
The first 2 you ripped properly - with your fingers close together. The 3rd one you pulled apart. Why not be consistent?

Really helpful broo.. Thankss.. The proper way to rectify
What if the bag is made of both paper and plastic, like a blend?

Trash Talk Thank you!
Thank you sir
Now I know how to select my cuppa😊
Thank you
Thank you all for watching and commenting!
???, You were not specific about particular one to buy, or not to

I just take paper out of tea bags 😊
Traditional medicine is a good tra bag company but either way I'm probly gonna start buying high quality organic loose leaf
Paper is safe??
Yes
Thanks so much!
It’s only the pyramid sized tea bags it took one second to say that 🙄
Not true. Some are using paper combined with nylon fibers, so pretty much just less plastic.
3:39 😅😂🤣🤣
