I was looking for videos on different crochet edgings for baby blankets and came across this set of videos about a year ago and I immediately fell in love with weaving! After building and using a loom as you described here, I purchased a rigid heddle loom, two square looms and am currently waiting for my first loom. The exciting thing is that it all started right here and now I'm getting ready to begin a Master Weaver program! Thank you so much for this video series! It has truly been a life changer! 💛😀
Great! A friend mentioned that she stapled a spring across the top and bottom instead of nails...I thought that was brilliant. Spring from the hardware store for about $2.00.
Hello, can I use/share your video for Instructables? I have no camera and need to show the process of making a loom and then weave a little bag... yours is so easy to understand.
You must be blessed by Athena, or even her daughter! You have the gift of handcrafts and great wisdom. Please, feel free to ask Athena for help sometimes. And let me guess, u hate spiders.
I’ve decided to do something bold and unfold and cut up an old moving box and make a cardboard loom out of it for weaving. I’m gonna try to make a little blanket with it. I’ll comment if it works or not.
You can just get stretcher bars for canvases at most art supply stores. Those may be sturdier than inexpensive canvas stretchers. You can get them pretty much as long as you want, too.
I am pretty sure when it comes to weaving, you can use just about anything you like. It really depends on what you want to do. Far as the video goes and if you're making a wall hanging, silk thread, cotton or acrylic yarn, or embroidery floss would work great but if you're weaving a rag rug, you could use strips of old sheets, clothing, or the like. Hope this helps!
@@4812jc I am making excuses. I just thought it was funny. its like 22 supplies and u NEED all them w/ the exception of i think 1. in other words u have to be setup right! or its not going down :)
Here is a good way to get a cheap frame made with real wood for a decent price. I just purchased some myself after watching this video. Check out the link here: www.amazon.com/Tonzom-Wooden-Stretcher-Painting-Numbers/dp/B071X8WDP1/ref=pd_sim_201_3/144-8065338-4863008?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B071X8WDP1&pd_rd_r=b9c1fd42-468a-11e9-8c57-f5289a200bc0&pd_rd_w=h5pFf&pd_rd_wg=tIEFz&pf_rd_p=90485860-83e9-4fd9-b838-b28a9b7fda30&pf_rd_r=54V2549TBZ2HVSTASVV2&refRID=54V2549TBZ2HVSTASVV2&th=1
Just in case you didn't notice Quotidian Panda commented with: She does it so that she can space them more tightly together without it being difficult to get between them when actually warping the loom :)
The nails you told us to use are not very good. Is impossible to get in into the wood. So disappointed waisted a canvas and bought these nails. You should explain more on the frame. You didn't say how wide is your rim of the frame. I don't have enough area to measure the 1/4 inch.
Doing pilot holes may help with this problem. Plus, it helps prevent the frame splitting where the nails are hammered in. Far as the frame itself, I'd imagine use any size you want. Really depends on what project it is that you're trying to do. And if it helps, check out the link I'm putting here. I literally just ordered some stretcher bars. It was about $8 for the 4 pieces. Thank you so much for these tutorials!! They are so helpful & I can't wait to start my first project on my loom! :)
Thank you for your tutorial. It is a useful reference and a skill that I need.
good work, keeping on to more complicated designs. nice, appreciate your work.
So excited I found these videos! Cant wait to try weaving!
Watched all 5 parts. loved it!! thanks...
I feel like I will have to make a few different looms with closer nails and farther apart~ thank you for the tutorials!
For what? You can just skip every 2nd(3rd,4th) nail...
Great videos Annabel! Love and learned alot!
Try holding the nails with needle-nose pliers when starting them. Avoids hammered fingers.
Mike L thank you for the tip, very helpful.
You can buy just the frame without the canvas in any length or width you need. They are called Canvas Stretcher Bars. Hope this helps.

Thank you Annabel! Love your teaching style, and the vids are great! On my way to weaving something fantastic. xoxx
This video started me off ! So greatfull for these videos 💕
This is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you!
Thank you so much for this video , nice work with nice hands and very beautiful eyes .
Great video!! I have a question that I cannot find an answer to, why do some looms have one row of nails and others have two rows??
Just differrent methods of fixing
You are amazing! Keep it up !!!
I loved your series! thanks s lot!!
Thank you for this informative video

Fabulous! We'd love to hear how this turns out!
Creativebug Studios it kept folding and got all loose and eventually collapsed.
Whoops! We appreciate the update - better luck next time!

Thanks so much for the tip! Found some and ordered them on Amazon. :)
How big is the easel? Would be helpful if you posted links to your supplies... Luv you vids... Thanks:)
tried to weave , didnt have any yarn so i used cotton sewing thread instead. an hour and a half later, i have less than 1cm of progress lmao
No way can you use sewing thread and get anywhere!
Try using strips, torn or cut, from of clothes. It will go really fast.
Are there any book or video's that you know on Weaving portraits ? Thanks
okay this is soooo useful ftw
How would I weave a square to attach to the front of a pillow cover?
I love your vid's could you please give me or tell me where to find the URL so I can put you on my channel,
Thanks Annabelle,
maybe keep the canvas attached while weaving and draw your design on it. remove the canvas when done??
How youre gonna attach it?..
Could anyone tell me which type of yarn to use? Is it the usual yarn for knitting pullovers? Thank you!

could you also use a picture frame if you don't have a canvas?
+Anna Holt I thought the same thing. I'm sure you could go to any craft store and get a plain unfinished picture frame.
thank you very mutch! =)
So cool
What looms are you using? Is it made of abaca?
Thank you
i know this is a year old video, but how do i make it longer?
What size nails do you use- penny nails or larger?
It would be a lot easier and cheaper to buy 1x2 strip from the lumberyard and nail or screw it together. You can even get them to cut it for you.
Creating a Loom: You'll need 64 different items before u can even start at all. k thanks, case in point.
Maybe, if you count all the nails separately! I think you're just making excuses!😎

I want to learn this but I have to find a weaving machine to start with.
Are you an Australian living in Virginia US of A ??? You sure do sound like us...
Brad nails / finish nails would be a better choice to use.
Hi I'm algerian women and I like very much but I don't understand how you're measuring thank you
Is't it cheaper to purchase a loom
It can be! But not all the time, and this allows you to really customize a loom to your exact specifications. Reasonable question!

Why do you have 2 lines of nails? Why not just one?
She does it so that she can space them more tightly together without it being difficult to get between them when actually warping the loom :)
What is the purpose of two rows of nails?
Just in case you didn't notice Quotidian Panda commented with: She does it so that she can space them more tightly together without it being difficult to get between them when actually warping the loom :)
So... canvas is super expensive. I cannot believe she destroyed one just to make a wooden square. 🤦♀️
You can find pretty cheap ones too, also, canvases really aren't THAT expensive (I mean, its cheap where I live)
Whoa. I am seriously intimidated by how she ripped off that canvas.
PLEASE JUST BUY A PICTURE FRAME or like a window frame. Pre stretched canvases are exspencive and honestly a waste of money
Instead of a canvas just buy a cheap wooden picture frame...
