- WWE 2K21 is supposed to be released later this year, but every indication is that WWE 2K21 will probably be cancelled. With no teases of motion capture being done by independent workers, a very obvious issue happening worldwide, and an engine that needs rebuilding, it seems logical that WWE 2K21 is cancelled this year for them to work on improving the game before AEW and Virtual Basement's new wrestling games come out to compete with WWE. So here is Why WWE 2K21 is probably cancelled.

IMO...? I say Good! I hope it takes as long as possible. I'm tried of the bs year after year they've been giving us Bs! Hopefully they'll see what AEW or Virtual Basement is doing & it'll light a fire under their asses to produce a great Wrestling Game! ??? But I'm not holding my breath they've really got some convincing to win back our community at this time.

Rockstar and 2K are both publishing decisions of Take-Two Interactive, so in a way, they're both already the same company.

Oh not at all , its not like we need much graphic enhancement or something like that, If they use wwe 2k19 engine and everything and just add new superstars and new attires for existing superstars , a good career mode and nostalgic showcase mode, it will do fine. All these things can be done even if they stay at home
They don't have 2K19's engine as far as I'm aware. That version stayed with Yukes. But I spoke to the devs, that version is also held together by tape and hope. The whole engine needs to be rebuilt. A year off would certainly help.

The career modes and showcase modes themselves need to be revamped. They haven't been good since 2k16. 19 and 20s career modes have problems which everyone are aware of. As far as showcase is concerned, yes, it is a vehicle for nostalgia. But DBry and the HorseWomen aren't nostalgic just yet and thats why those didn't work.
I would rather they use the 2k19 engine , by far the best in years and just call it 2k21 .. with updated roster and just patch it.

Fabstories 50 yup pretty much, they are just so hell-bent on building a engine from scratch and have shown to be very reckless. This would be equivalent to going to a restaurant and 95 % of the Fish and food is not cook properly. It was a very reckless move on their part.

ViolentLee They won’t. The whole reason they want 2k21 cancelled is so they’ll have an excuse to not buy it. But since it won’t be cancelled, they’ll dish out the $120 for the deluxe super edition.
Sit out one or two years to work out problems and see what the fans want. Clean up the new engine, build a new game and release it under the name WWE Vengence. This way they could keep this game on shelf, do constant roster, and arena updates, and spend more time bettering the next game. The yearly releases in my opinion are a waste because we are literally getting the same game reskinned. Stop doing yearly. Give us new and different games
WWE is the problem the game makes up merchandise revenue for WWE for they want a yearly release to boost income for merch plus they have in the contract for access to the license. If WWE relaxed the yearly release clause it would help
Two?!?!? The only reason 2K20 was so bad was because it was rushed and they did that independently they even said themselves that there was a lot going on and next year's installment would be better, next time do research

If there is a 2K21 it's going to be horrible. Corona is giving them no time to work. Animations not recorded or given a sample for them to edit based on mocap, no voice acting as they can't get wrestlers and actors into the booth, no advancements of any sort because they're entire attention has to go towards working their hardest at giving the basic essentials.

With the xbox series x and the ps5 coming out I serious doubt 2k is gonna take a year off. Visual Concept is already promoting NBA 2k21 is going to be the best looking game in the franchise. I think WWE 2k20 was half assed because of the next gen console is coming out and Visual Concept is more focused on the WWE 2k21 just for that reason imo.. I think 2K should still some stuff from Fire pro wrestling and throw some of that concept in future 2K titles.
They should rebrand. Lets be honest, even if we know why there is no 2k21 but theres a 2k22, it'll be weird. I have a good idea, in my opinion, what they can do. WWE Champions. Rebrand it like that, why is it called champions you may ask? Well from now on, instead of making a showcase on a specific career(s), make it about specific titles. The WWE championship alone could cover a showcase, plus midcard, tag and womens titles. And if they really wanted too you could have WCW & ECW championship showcases down the line.
That was a good reason why WWE 2K21 got cancelled because WWE 2K20 made a disastrous launch last year on October 22nd, and because of the coronavirus pandemic. It's better when we get WWE 2K22 next year on fall 2021!

PS5 and Xbox Series X release dates will inevitably be later given that those consoles are scheduled loosely for ‘Holiday 2020’. Even so, it’d be a huge risk for WWE 2K21 to be a launch title on those formats. An early 2021 release would seem less of a gamble, buying the studio a few extra months to clear up any PS4 and Xbox One issues and ensure 2K21 doesn’t tank on next-gen.

It was confirmed I believe in January that they would still be making the game but that was before all this stuff happened so I don't know how far they got and when this will be over it's definitely up in the air now

All the major promotions are being hesitant because of what's going on right now. I would too if I was in game design not knowing what could happen from day to day.
With all of these games coming out next year It's a smart move on WWE to take massive amount of time with the next game going forward because if not there are others coming to replace it in a heart beat...

Maybe the developers were dealing with Coronavirus last year too. That would explain why they didn't have time to come up with a half decent game lmao. All jokes aside I don't want a 2K21 or even a 2K22, I want a new company to handle WWE games from now on. This company had its chance and dropped the ball long before 2K20 so it's time to cut our losses.

Tbh we asking for the wrong things as fans... no reasons wrestling games shouldn’t be a Esports game.. we need to make my career like nba 2k my career in a way.. tag team matches against others online.. maybe the community makes brands and you can sign with them and fight for belts after a certain amount of wins etc.. and once a month have cross over shows where it’s random your brand gets points that count towards something. Just have to build and no reason wrestling games drop every year they should drop every two years with a lot of updates

It took them 4 years after reboot to get decent review. I wouldn't care if they took a few years off. Maybe 3. Just give me a game that's complete and fresh!! 2k Only Taking a year off from making a WWE Wrestling game is not enough time. Hell even 5 years off would likely not be enough time off for 2k in regards to making a WWE video game. I'd actually would much rather like to see 2k not make another WWE or wrestling game again period. 2k has had plenty of chances, and another video game company should be able to make the next WWE wrestling video game. I do not have any idea of which gaming company should make the next games, but it definitely should not be 2k and Visual Concepts. Also, I would hope the next WWE wrestling game would be worth the price it sells for online or in stores. Whichever company puts out the next WWE game should charge about 20-30 dollars max for the next WWE game until it has been proven to be a good game that's worthy of being $60 or more.
It's funny, because in 2014 when it was announced that 2K would take over the reins of the WWE saga, I was very happy. Back then, 2K was on fire with its NBA franchise. Great gameplay, amazing graphics ... and really, with WWE 2k15, although the game was bad, everyone was amazed by those new generation graphics. Oh, and now nobody remembers that the forums were full of comments against Yukes: they slowed down the development of the game, its techniques and technologies were out of date, etc etc ... now, everyone misses Yukes. Curious, isn't it?
I think that WWE should come out with 2k21 I will not be happy if they cancel the WWE game I just hope that they will pull through with the WWE game I rather enjoy the 2k21 video game

id be surprised theres a 2021 of any games. Because of this virus. UNless they are all doing it from home right now. Anyway in pretty content with 2k19. Id like a 2 year window till the next game anyway. Improve on it over 2 years. They need to make the Ai more interesting, like Nba 2K games. Where the Ai will adjust and do sht out of nowhere. Not just the same wrestling match over and over against the Ai. As a player i should never know what the Ai is going to do, ever.

It's for the best, WWE 2K20 is a complete disaster! WWE 2K19 is the game that everyone including me will be playing for the next year and a half from now.

John trainfan101 I’m hating because last years game was unplayable, superstars and legends missing dlc besides the Fiend which wasn’t really dlc since he was hidden in a tower and not at launch which 2k lied about, two many glitches that broke the game, no new single player matches, no voiceovers in universe mode no GM mode which wwe fans have been asking for , universe mode is still broken graphics that look like PS2 , 2k needs to be fired and I want EA to take over since ufc 3 was one of the best sports games , and we didn’t have to pay for fighters they came with updates, even superstars like DDP doesn’t have his right WCW theme and wrestlers were completely out dated
