- This is the seminar at Bass Player Live 2009 given by Andrew Gouche. It's a ten minute excerpt of an hour presentation and a very informative look into the career of the acknowledged "King of Gospel Bass." The announcer is Chris Jisi
Thank you my Brotherman, your Praise and Worship humble me. I know what you mean about "before there were 5 (or 6) string basses, I tried tuning down but never got it to work for me, so I went on to explore the bell notes. Listening to you tonite, I will have to find those low notes again, they really rumble the room! Come soon Lord Jesus.
An awesome Christian Bassist Finally.
I have this same bass also. I absolutely love it and so glad to see someone else playing it also. Thank you!
that's such a good sound. i want 2 be just half as good as this guy Gouche
The One and Only.......Chris Coleman. Well said
I concede that there are a preponderance of people who want to see what he does rather than why he does what he does. There are other videos that provide that. Here, what you see is what you get.
I really enjoyed the video. You have some mad chops, my friend. You seem like a real class act with a whole lot of heart and charisma. Your stories are very entertaining. After all the media coverage and fame, the first thing you say is "I hope I don't mess up". Its rare to find that kind of humbleness and poise in famous musicians today. Have you ever thought about holding bass player workshops? Or possibly doing some sermons? God Bless.
There are other videos of Andrew here on UA-cam (look to the right) . Thank you for your comments but THIS video does exactly as I intended it to do. Thank you.
Okay...This man is my NEW favorite bass player!! EEVVVEEERRR!!!! OHHHMGEE!!!
Andrew has played basses made by Michael Tobias since the 1990's. His current basses are Mike's MTD brand of basses. BTW, Andrew (as he mentions in the video) is on the cover of the Jan Bass Player Magazine. There is even a picture of me on page34 holding a MTD bass in Michael's booth. I edited teh video with the intention of giving the viewr more information without having a long running time.
@basslabd very well put sir.
@japa1990 Edwin Hawkins Music and Arts Seminar Mass Choir - the recording at Howard University was so incredible - around 1985 or 6, New Jersey Mass Choir, Daryl Coley - a recording the nineties somewhere because Jimmy Neuble did a lot of that back then -- too many to name because he did a lot of live stuff w/ gospel artists
@martin10921
Its called Thank You Lord originally done by the late Bishop Walter Hawkins in the late 80's or maybe early 90's.
JUST saw your comment! Thanks! Peace & Blessings
Think about it, straps rarely break unexpectedly. They are more likely to not be put on properly and just fall as a result of that. I used straplocks forever and I even put them on improperly once and the bass did not hole (luckily for me I still had a hand holding the bass...
I heard john hayes and chris colemann and i went yep this is gone be good
wish i could hear the music. you could have made it two videos!!!!!!
@nigel670202 I think he uses MTD Strings. It is not uncommon that any time you change string gauges you would have to adjust the truss rod (or have it done for you by a repairman if you do not understand the process).
He does not use MTD strings. He uses Dean Markley SR2000's in light gauge tuned a whole step down. +1 about the set up suggestion.
I like the way you edited the vid then sir it almost makes me more interested in what he's saying. but sorry to have not been clear I mean the guitarist that is playing with Andrew, I am curious as to the make of that guitar. I've known about MTD for sometimes now, very popular in the gospel music bass realm
@nigel670202 basslabd is right. You can also replace the strings one by one.
This way the neck wont bend back. If you replace all strings at once the neck needs time to settle back.
Thats the rattle.
@tobias0598 Maybe you have but the gigs he's played on are amazing....
I agree, he proves that you don't always have to get fancy to play well.
another SA heard from... Well with 80,000 views you have a long way to go to catch up. This interview has some real important information that you are missing. We have all heard the great bass playing of Andrew Gouche. Now we know why he played bass and why he chooses to detune his bass and some insight who Andrew Gouche is. When you learn how to convey that via video you will have achieved something.
talented
anyone know the make of that guitar, looks very thick for a custom style strat but I can't see the headstock well. And I love the way the dialogue plays during the beginning, its like poetry over his playing lol
hey would you recomend any cool gospel songs to play on bass:?
Does Andrew also play with Israel Houghton in addition to Terrance Palmer??
both are very good .... with regard to the video the music is not perceived well by the interview that is heard at the same time:
does anyone know what this solo is called??? I love that bass and I neeeed to learn it :’)
Andrew tambien toca con Israel Houghton ademas de Terrance Palmer??
ambos son muy buenos .... respecto al video no se percibe bien la musica por la entrevista que se oye a la par :(
@jasononbass124 yeah it was but u know how us bass players do --we slide into the right note and keep going lol!
Smoooth Bass :)
Why the world would you cover the playing of THAT band with the Q & A? Lol
hey bro you think you can repost this vid without the talking part??? i can appreciate the bio info but not during the playing... thank you.. God Bless
did u see how he did his strings on 2:12??...how did he do dat??
First 15 seconds.
FUCKING YES
Hes got some big mitts
@stockinglover22 I think you have done that all by yourself. Have a nice day.
Is he saying tuning his b to ab A or tuning down the whole bass?
his tunings are: open string, low to high, A-D-G-C-F-Bb a whole step down on all 6 strings...
Dang it I meant donald hayes, looked over at something saw the name john and accidentally put that
in further reply to this post made 3 days ago, I have had some 300 views since then.
yo why did u have the talking part on this video???!??...i mean WHY???...not a good idea for future reference
0:27 james brown scream
Comodín toca!
@OzziePerch I take it, you already know how and why to tune down. I watched young perfectos a while back grumble at Bill Dickens who was TEACHING how to keep getting gigs after getting started. Show up on time, be prepared and so forth. These "phenoms" only wanted to hear Bill play. SO SAD. This info is invaluable, yet the primas think playing well alone makes a career. LEARN so as not to CHOKE when you get the gig.
why is the guy talking while he's playing? can't we just listen to him play?
@hahabass It was a bass seminar who cares about the guitar solo. Bass Rocks HAHAHa
I'm a video director and I'd like to know a good way to make both an interview and an instrumental solo unlistenable. Wait! I've Got it! I'll play them both at the same time! That way whatever fine points either may have are lost to miscellation! Okay, I'm off to wreck my first video. Bye!
Well, I produced this video with 91,163 views and you're sarcastic glad to meet you. You must realize that I could give a rat's behind regarding your latest comment.
what's the bass guitar? is it MTB?
MTD (Michael Tobias Design)
Is he bassing with the voice too???
Yes, that is Gouche talking if that is your question?
6:36 harmony :O
@OzziePerch Fine go watch some other video then...
That is quite funny because in the English language sarcasm is a tone of voice and cannot be conveyed in written English unless the reader is informed, for example by putting (!) at the end of the sentence.
but seriously....WHY would u put the talking part on while he's killing the bass???...COME ON MAN????..SMH
CHRIS COLEMAN ON DRUMS :) :) :) :) :)
music should come first....
You really think so? Remember this, I can get rid of your snide remarks in a second. I'd rather make points in regards to 1. what I have done, and the fact that 2. you have done nothing but criticize from the sidelines with no qualifications but the sound of your own voice.
you cant even hear the music due to the talking, that sucks big time
was 2:06 a mess up hahaha
Que mal, ponen el otro audio de el hablando, malo, bad, bad, bad. basslabd bad.
I disliked it because they tracked the interview on top of the music.
ANYBODY KNOW WHAT TYPE OF STRINGS HE PLAYS WITH. I RESTRUNG MY MTD WITH A PAIR OF BOOMERS, AND BOY DID MY BASS SOUND LIKE A BIG AZZ FRET BUZZ THIS SUNDAY..........
No other way to be...
Mr Gouche. Great player, but he treads all over the guitarist's solo.
would have been nice if he stopped talking during the song.....
CHAKA KHAN
Actually you do give a rats ass or you wouldn't reply trying to defend yourself and you are showing fear and ignorance with your anger. God bless :)
