I liked to go out after the rain and shoot pictures of what i regard as pristine Los Angeles. This date was especially good as I shot between two back-to-back storms. As a matter of fact you can see one storm cloud raining down literally on the Beverly Hills/Wilshire area. I wrote and recorded the music in the mid eighties produced by Cali Cooler in Germany.

Hollywood, "Pump Me Up" Sung by Einstein and Kenny, Pans by Guppy . we also recorded the piece on the movie "Out To Sea" . we did a lot of events together around L.A. and were also featured on segment of Family Matters, episode "Eau de Love " R.I.P.

Very good,Bob.
Great voice,Miss Skiffer!
Is he bassing with the voice too???
Yes, that is Gouche talking if that is your question?
If anything perhaps overdubs do contribute to some of the disparities in intensity but none of it sounds picked to me. I think this is the same bass player all the way through using dynamics, also most of the parts you attribute to pick style are played on the D and G strings which on a P bass are always a little bit thinner than the E and A strings because of pickup placement of the D and G being closer to the bridge. Also the long relatively simple passage you say is pick style is just a quieter passage which is why it's simpler, the lower notes sound just as full as the rest of the tune although you didn't think so. The part going out with just bass and congas is unbelievable, James with THE master.
Obviously there was a concerted effort to not have the sound be different by concealing the pick sound in favor of the more traditional Motown bass sound
I came here from the bass site.....What I hear is the same as the author. And my theory is they were bi-coastal (Motown) at this time and Carol probably did play the entire track and then the studio cats in Detroit did their thing. The producers mixed them both in and out. I'm a producer and thats what I hear. What I also hear and I haven't seen anyone mention this.......The alleged Carol Kaye parts are on a short-scale bass which she played quite a bit as one of her studio instruments and the parts the author indicate are possibly Carol's do not not have the same decay as the Jamerson parts. Either someone else not 'holding on' to the necj quite as hard or a bass with less sustain....AKA Mustang Bass Carol used.
One-finger bassing! I've adopted that style mostly myself, after James Jameson, one of America's bass legends. Bass on, my brother!
Sounds beefy! Are you using a pickup in this video?
that was a long time but I usually use and amp with the upright as an integral part of my sound (K&K Audio PU, Euphonic Audio iAmp 500 combo)
Wow Pat and Ronnie!!.
Are you still in the Los Angeles area do you have a contact number I have artwork from you and I would like to purchase more and I have other people that would like to purchase too
