- Meet Budge, the yellow naped amazon. Hand Reared by us from the egg here in the UK, where she has resided all of her life. Meet BUDGE, the amazing talking and singing - Yellow Naped Amazon Parrot. She is a supporter of Manchester United, as you'll note from her chants. She also loves Monty Python.
Meet Budge, the yellow naped amazon parrot, a species native to central America and widely regarded as the best talking species in the world.
The yellow naped amazon also has the best personality of all parrots and is a natural show-off. It will naturally stand out in personality alongside other talented, but dull, talkers, such as African greys. The yellow nape is also not as raucus or aggressive as other amazon species and certainly not as much as cockatoos and macaws. They are also less prone to self destruction as macaws, cockatoos and certainly African greys. Altogether, they are probably the best parrot species of all to have as a pet.
Take a look at her being hand reared as a baby in this video. This was a bit of a feat in holding camera, bird and feeding apparatus all in 2 hands while filming and feeding. But practice makes perfect. Who could not fall in love with a baby like this:

You should make ringtones out of «Mum? Me biscuit’s fallen in me BREW!», «Grumpy!» and «Always look on the bright side of life, da-da,da-da-da-da-da-da»! Just like the owners of Einstein Grey has, many people love having their fave bird as a ringtone! It would be really fun having Budge’s wise words on the phone, LOL!

Classic Yellow Nape ! I had one 35 yrs ago, he learned so many things to say it was amazing. Best was he learned to cry exactly like each of my 3 small children, which did not endear him to my ex-wife. Had to rehome him sadly , as the babies grew up and he hated them and would bite. In retrospect I shoulda kept him and .... I now have a Yellow Shoulder Amazon, who is 1/2 the size of a YNA and much milder temperament. Talks and sings better than a YNA, if thats possible.
We still have another yellow nape who used to copy both of the kids' crying sounds and you could easily tell which of the kids she was imitating. The parrot is 25 years old now and still going strong. By the way, I never found the yellow nape to have a bad temperament when young, but they can grow a bit nasty alright when they reach maturity.
This bird needs love and special one attention like Pebbles the parrot got. Sweet thing....

Thank you. She's a great character. This was just filmed one morning during a random spare half hour. There was no prompting. She just does and says as she pleases. Most parrots need coaxing or prompting. Not so with this girl. She's a natural born entertainer. All parrots, unless prompted, generally just say whatever comes into their head. I just decided to film what she was randomly belting out. She was invited onto tv shows and I was even asked if she could take part in one international film that has just been released, but we are so occupied with business elsewhere that we prefer to love her as the household pet we hand reared her as. Lots of people express surprise at this, but she's our baby. There's even a good Russian African grey who has copied her repertoire now, especially the Monty Python song.
That's cute! I have a Yellow Naped Amazon Parrot and her name is Larry Bird. I got her when she was only 3 months old so I could hand feed her and bond well. She sings many different songs. I always teach her to sing bird song's. She sings, Bird is the word, I feel pretty, Fly high lesbian seagull, from Beavis and Butt-Head do American. I wished I were in the land of cotton, Star Spangled Banner, she does part of the Who's Tommy, rock Opera, Some lines of song's by Queensryche and Pantera. She does the heavy metal scream. I guess if I worked with her more on one thing that she likes, she would pick it up. She has a vocabulary of about 200 words.
That sounds good. Just one piece of advice based on my experience:
Do not teach your bird any stupid songs or sayings. I hear so many cases of great birds being ruined by idiot owners teaching them stupid kids' nursery rhymes and other meaningless rubbish that you can already hear every 2-year-old child saying. This species is the best talker in the world and should be kept for unique phrases and great songs and tunes. And of course, never teach it to curse. That's another thing some people cannot wait to do and of course once a parrot leans a word or saying, it never forgets it and will recall it randomly, sometimes decades later. This girl sometimes whistles Bob Dylan's "Changing of the Guards," which all Dylan fans find hilarious and they all recognise it immediately from the first bar. In fact, even non Dylan fans are able to recognise it. There are other very good talking parrots, such as african greys, but nothing comes close to the yellow naped amazon for quality, clarity and volume in its speech. It truly is the king of all talkers (or queen in the case of yours and my birds). I don't know whether there is a way to send videos privately or even to communicate privately any more through this site. If not, then if you let me have your email address, I'll write to you, so you can send me a video of 'Larry Bird.' It sounds like one I'd like to see and hear (unlike many that have been ruined by teaching them childish phrases). Thank you.
Meanwhile, here is a small video of her being fed as a chick. This took some doing. Everybody asks me how I managed all of this with just 2 hands and no outside help, while using a heavy camera. Unfortunately, it was an early digital one and the quality was not as refined as it is nowadays.

This bird is for sure a great performer.... but it doesn't seem be able to fly. Are those wings clipped?.... and if so - why?
Which part of the video shows her trying to fly and failing to do so? Please advise us, because we haven't been able to trace the part you are speaking of.
