Ballistics is a futuristic racing computer game developed by Grin and published by Xicat Interactive in 2001. Grin developed an arcade version of the game, released in 2002 featuring a unique reclined seating position cabinet by Triotech. Players race across seven different tracks in various leagues against other competitors on high-speed hoverbikes.
The game was Grin's first to be released, and featured the first version of their Diesel game engine. Grin worked closely with NVIDIA to incorporate then new technologies into the game, and was marketed as one of the flagship titles for the GeForce 3 Series of graphics cards.
Critical reaction was average, with reviewers being impressed by the beauty of the graphics and the thrilling depiction of speed. They were however, slightly disappointed with the shallow nature of the gameplay. A newer version of the arcade game was released in 2003, incorporating motion simulator technology into the arcade cabinet.

This game is so "2000's." I miss that vibe.
This and MDK2 were my main jams back then, as well as some Wolfenstein
ohhh my god!!! you just revived a part of my brain that was lost. I so remember playing this as a kid, but it was always to hard on keyboard until my dad brought a joystick.
Thanks for the forgotten memory and keep up the good work !!
Did you ever play the full game? my neighbour and I used to play the demo track again, and again, and again. same with Rollcage, damn the late 90s early 2000s had some fun racing games.
This game was also a staple of my childhood! Still got the install CD somewhere.
Do you by chance remember a game that came on PCs that was like a top down tycoon click and drag to command style game like age of mythology, that was modern military themed? Had tanks, Bradley's, helicopters, and you could call in artillery, an A10 run, or cruise missiles? Might have been wild tangent games but i swear its a fever dream to me now.
A little detail about this game that not many people point out is that your team radio actually gives you hints about the track up ahead, such as reminding you about moving to the other wall to avoid detachment or telling you which is the best place to use the booster. This game is all about the insane speeds but slowing down a bit reveals a different style of gameplay underneath.
I remember this game, It came bundled with a GeForce 4.
It was my first PC game I bought with my own money. And my first GPU.
Same. I also got Morrowind with the card. :)
WTF I bought a Geforce 4 and never got a free copy....that's some BS.
I rocked this game so hard back then. I was so stoked that it was a small time indie dev who created it back then - even though it was such a simple concept, no crazy frills. They made what they could and didn't try to over-do it, kept the feature creep out and instead of creating something with a bunch of features that was janky, they created something simple that was solid. I remember having this first map down pat, being able to fly through it so fast. It's all about getting it down to muscle memory where you're just pressing buttons like playing a song. I wonder if I still have it memorized - how long it'd take me to get it back.
Only reason I found this video, I was watching a video on the Dyatlov pass incident and they mentioned Novosibrisk and racked my brain for about 20 minutes until I remembered where I had heard it before.
And down a nostalgia rabbit hole I go.
I loved the sound effects of this game. Will try to get it to run again.
lol i remember editing my game and adding Beethoven - Moonlight Sonata to play when i hit the speeds of sonic boom. it was a sound effect and i had all the music muted. i think i got this with a ATI card.
yeah, i also had it for free, and i think it was with ATI card :)
Funny, but the music in this game was also sooo creative. I've never heard anything like it anywhere.
i feel like this would be an good engine for an first person shooter
If it's a FPS where you would be trapped in a tube, the answer is yes.
@@Tigrou7777 whooooosh
@@Tigrou7777 hes talking about payday 2
I love when the voice of the announcer when he says "nice move!"
It hurt seeing you not using the centrifugal force for your advantage. PS. Thank you for the HQ Video!
this game got bundled with Ati 9800 Pro. loved it back then.
Great times! I just discovered Grip Combat Racing, the spiritual successor to Rollcage! It's a great game!
I miss those days, we had every different 3d accelerator you can imagine back then, PowerVR, Rendition, 3dFx, Nvidia, Virge3d, Matrox, ATI...
My first 3d card was the Matrox Mystique, came with MW2! and Battlezone, omg! I didn't want a console after that.
Neat! I remember this game being buggy and crash prone, did it give you trouble?
I remember if your PC wasn't that fast and you picked enough speed, you could clip through thin obstacles, but if you took a turn badly, you could also clip out of the tube.
Maybe it won't happen now that it can easily run at 120fps
I do remember clipping through some obstacles a few times back in the day - if you are going fast enough and framerate is low enough - and I aimed to go as fast as the game would let me, obstacles and speed boosts all memorized down pat. It was like playing a memorized song on the keyboard.
One of the most memorable racing games when I was a kid. The speed and the picture was mind-blowing. I wish someone can create a remake with all new graphic technologies implemented.
I actually played the arcade version that they made of this after owning the PC version... it was kinda cool with the custom cabinet and controls, but i found it more difficult than mouse+keyboard
Was a neat setup. I miss arcades mang
Oh yes, the arcade version with the "vibration system" in the seat that broke your back when you crashed. It was a great machine! It really improved the immersion.
I've always liked that "GRIN" intro
One of few games which still brings joy and not just due to nostalgia. After watching you struggle in this video had to do a few runs and even made a video of my own :)
Man this game was developed by just 2 Sweden civilians that owned a small game company. The first game to feature the diesel engine. Little did they know how far that would take ulf and Bo andersson.
*cough cough payday cough cough*
Also Simon was the composer for this game
Man this brings back so many memories im getting fuggin goosebumps! Still have the install disc somewhere.
Now if only i can remember some of the games that came on the PC as well, id love to find this one old game from the same era it was a highlight and command style game with tanks and stuff like that. Cant seem to find it and reddit is gonna roast me.
This game looked way better in my head.
I play this on a Sony multiscan 17” CRT monitor, in XP ,9800gt card at 800x600 at 120hz, superb game, it might be the UA-cam quality but mine looks better than this, the sheer depth the crt gives is mindblowing
This video has too low FPS i would say for this game. Might be this problem.
Wow! I don't know how I found this game now. have very faint memory of playing this game back in 2001.
So, this is what Payday was built on top of? Does it really just take place in tubes tho?
Basically. Although needless to say it has been modified tremendously. So much so that when they added vehicles in the game, they had to re-code vehicles from scratch.
To be fair the guy is slow, he's only reaching speeds of 600 mph, you can easily go beyong 2000 if you use the boost. And at those speeds you're glad it's all in a tube.
@@GamingDad I see.
Yep. Simple ass game but very fun.
I wish this got brought back.
this would be insane in VR
Esse jogo e show ! Nunca vi igual
I give it a 10/10 for the game
this is my 2nd game after windows pinball
Wish I could play this game again but I can't find the CD anymore
Oh man di played the shit out of this game... Makes wipeout looks like an elevator
You can tell it's on easy mode because the bike isn't flying off the corners.
That huge purple hud in the middle of the screen is horrible. What were they thinking?
is there any newer version of this game?
Can you upload Ballistics 2003?
good old
I need help finding a game it was very similar to this game but it was for a console I can’t find it anywhere
