I'm just curious if you noticed that the beat in Mary Boone was from a 90's song called Standing Outside a Broken Phone Booth With Money in My Hand by Primitive Radio Gods? I love when bands sample or mimic the songs of their youth. This album is actually my favorite of VW. I think lyrically it's their most mature and thought provoking albums. I always thought they were a little amateurish in the past, but enjoyed their instrumentation and production. But this album is literal perfection.
Here here, man! I think this album has a little bit of everything we loved from past LPs like the Blake’s Got a New Face drum rolls on Ice Cream Piano, bouncy happy guitar riffs from White Sky on Prep School Gamgsters, GORGEOUS classical piano EVERYWHERE on this album such as the vibes from Modern Vampires of the City and the deep religious undertones in the lyrics of Ya Hey in songs like Hope. Absolutely PERFECT in my eyes and a shoe in for AOTY
Glad you liked the album! Took me a bit to get into it but yes, agree, they made a great album here. Definitely feels like 2008-2010 era indie is having a slight resurgence?
Awesome review man
The production in this album is so incredibly impressing
Love this album
Broo Pravda has the best lyrics in the whole album haha
