The way that Nissan works is that they make a car that is fantastic, class leading, innovative, and exciting and then they sell it for 15 years until it’s none of those things.
Well, it will be right on time for the ban on petrol engines sales in europe in 2035.
IDK... There's really nothing here the Santa Fe didn't have...in 2013. That Santa Fe may have had more.
Accurate take
same thing could be said about toyota/lexus
This is absolutely the truth. They're competitive when new but then they barely update them to keep up
The fact that they swapped out a CVT for a 9 speed geared transmission warms my heart, I’m hopeful for the future of Nissan.
This car is not available in Europe... I would stick to the Volkswagen Atlas because of that wonderful VR6.
Thankfully they got rid of that abysmal CVT
Nissan’s sales have skyrocketed. They announced their first profits IN YEARS.
@@dragospahontu oh yeah, Vr6 is glorious
still a nissan though ;)
Hey Doug, please when you talk about the "old" version of a vehicle can you show a very short picture? I have always thought your videos would do well with a very short picture/video clip of the older vehicle when comparing old vs new. Always happy to watch your videos please keep them coming
He did show one at the beginning of the video when talking about the history, but another look later on would have been a nice refresher

I also think Doug should name the car he's standing next to when advertising the cars and bids website.
I agree. Doug, despite his enormous popularity could learn some things from Bill from curious cars.
Funny thing is he did this on his newest civic video
Where are we at as a society when manually putting those third -row headrests down is considered challenging?
Entitled and lazy. I remember when you had to remove the headrests to put the seat down.
It’s not considered challenging it’s just nice for it to be automatic

Just for the 6000 lb towing capacity alone, the pathfinder is worth a look. If you go by the common recommendation to not exceed 80% of max tow rating, you can tow 4800 lbs, that's enough for a 21-22 ft boat, trailer, fuel, and gear. Virtually every other non-FCA brand competitor has a 5000 lbs max tow (4000 lbs at 80%). That's an 18-19 ft boat/trailer/fuel/gear for reference. A couple feet in the world of boats and travel trailers is a huge difference.
3rd gen Pathfinder can tow up to 7000 pounds with a V8
@ Kaiser Fox I
No it can’t.
Because the 3rd gen Pathfinder is mostly rust by now.
@@Bartonovich52 idk exactly what that assessment is based on because I see a ton of them rolling around in great condition I my area. I own one. 150k miles and counting. No major mechanical problems.
they probably over-rated it..... knowing nissan
I have a 18 foot bowrider and my 2008 trialblazer tow it no problem, the day she fall apart i may get a pathfinder.
Doug, you missed the three slots at the top of the grill. This is a tribute to the original hardbody Pathfinder which had the three iconic slots in the leading edge of the hood.
Also the 3 slots pays tribute to the earlier Nissan Hardbody pickup trucks
@@yungboicontigo9278 why reference to fortnite?

@@verhu010 so so true
Nissan got lucky when Fiat started selling cars in the US, now Nissan is second to worst.
Doug missed so many things. The retro callback at the top of the grill, the removable 2nd row console, the updated driving dynamics, and the impressive 6000lb tow rating. You can’t include everything, but it would have taken a couple seconds to mention it.
As you said he can't mention everything but he did mention the 6000lbs towing capacity.
6000lbs isn’t impressive.
@@mikeford9213 most suvs only can tow up to 5000 pounds. Like the Honda Pilot and Toyota Highlander can only tow 5000 lbs
@@BlackonBlackE46 alot of other vehicles in the same class can tow more, is my point
@@mikeford9213 could you give some examples?
If Nissan wants to continue their revival, the Xterra needs to come back yesterday. The Frontier is already out so it should be a no-brainer since they'll share both the look and platform. I've been saying they need a dedicated Warrior trim since the fantastic Titan Warrior that was shown. Those would have sold like hotcakes if they had taken that initiative especially considering the Rebel hadn't even been introduced then. A Frontier and X-terra Warrior wouldn't be bad as well to go against the Raptors.
Nissans biggest mistake is not making a gen 3 Xterra. Would also sell like hotcakes if they did it right. My 2nd gen xterra is titan swapped, both suspension and i put the v8 in it. Absolutely blows 4runners out of the water. But I had to do that stuff myself because Nissan is too dumb to realize the potential.
Actually 3rd gen Xterra exists. Just that you guys in US don't get it. 😂
It's called Nissan Terra, made in Thailand and sold here in middle east. It's pretty much a Nissan Navara chassis/frame with SUV body.
Edit: And my guess the reason they don't sell it in US is because it has no V6 or V8, only 2.5L 4 cyl (which is fine imo, its powerful enough).
A couple of enthusiasts want an Xterra.. so of course Nissan should make them.
You going to take your brand new XTerra and start ripping it apart to mod it and then immediately take it mudding and rock crawling and river fording? Not a chance!
You need Karen to buy one and take it back and forth from the mall and soccer practice for ten years before you buy it.. just like you did with her FJ Cruiser she had when she was a single professional and her Geo Tracker her parents bought her in high school.
Now that she’s married with kids, she needs a 7 seat unibody AWD vehicle that isn’t a minivan. That’s what the Pathfinder is. And if she only needs 5 seats, the Rogue. And if she’s still on her own, the Qashqai.
There’s always the Ford Bronco and Jeep Wranger. My guess is the Bronco will be discontinued inside of 5 years due to lack of sales.
@@Bartonovich52
The point is having new models that will generate interest in the brand. That's what spurs increased sales. Of course they'd also need to back it up with actual quality.
Had a 2000 Xterra. Loved it.
4:17: "It's surprisingly deep like I can fit almost my whole hand in here. It's surprising how much stuff you could put in there if you wanted, although there's no like cover for it, it'll fly around under heavy acceleration."
24:02: Acceleration: 1
This goes 0-60 in 7.0 seconds, which is an automatic 1/10 for Doug lol. It could be a 20 ton tank, if it takes 7 seconds to get to 60mph, it's a 1.
It's an objective scale.

please review one of the best Nissan’s ever made, the Infiniti FX50S
Doug usually trashes Nissan and Infiniti cars so much that I'm shocked his review didn't consist of him dropping a deuce on the front seat and calling it a day. Also surprising he doesn't know that Nissan had Pathfinder hybrid version in 2014 but they dropped it due to low sales.
New infinitis are neat
the thing I know about him complaining about Nissan and Infiniti is they just hadn't updated anything in almost a decade, the 370z being the biggest example I remember. Nissan actually putting some effort into making new cars can only be good
Nissan’s new cars are pretty good but they sell them for 12 years
I think he didn't mention it because it was cancelled, it clearly wasn't well marketed or any good if it didn't last

This is a nice review
I am definitely getting one. I will also use it for some light off-roading and hauling. I loved the early 2000s Pathfinders. This one gives me some of those vibes unlike the last few years’ models.

True. A car that I can afford!
I wouldn’t have considered a Pathfinder before but Nissan did a great job. Theres a lot of practicality. I love the flip forward second row that is car seat friendly. That’s one of my biggest gripes with my Telluride. Actually, the x7 and GLS should incorporate a similar mechanism- it’s so much more practical than waiting a minute for a power seat to slowly operate

Good lord that sunset orange Blackwing in the beginning 🔥
Although I love the styling of the Murano (I feel like it kicked off the mainstream crossover styling), I think it's time to cut it from the lineup and swap in a new Xterra that would slot in nicely between the Rogue and Pathfinder to compete in the off-road/overlander space.
Which murano are we talking about? The first gen? Either way love both the first and second gen for unexplainable reasons. The 3rd one is so bland to me though
I think there is a place for the murano, but it needs to be spiced up a little bit, maybe the 290hp or the 306hp 3.5 v6 instead of the 260hp. Put a torque converter auto into it, slightly bigger brakes, adaptive suspension that can handle pretty decently for a crossover but still be reasonably comfortable. So basically a properly sporty crossover without having the price of an x3m or gle43. I agree the xterra needs to be brought back, and of course Nissan pulled the plug on it literally a year before suvs started selling record numbers lol.
Amazingly, Nissan sells an Xterra in Asia (called just the Terra) that would do incredibly well in our market given the push for off-road SUVs. However due to truly terrible product planning and development, it’s not offered here. One of the biggest misses of any automaker today.
In the middle east (im in the UAE) , i've been seeing the x-terra everywhere! it's almost like a baby armada/patrol

Hello Doug, great videos always. Could you please name the cars you stand next to when talking about cars and bids website. God bless.
Noticing the stitch pattern on the seats. It reminds me of the weave pattern on a Samurai sword. And I've always thought that the Nissan front chrome U-shape/design has been emulating a Samurai helmet. Nice touch Nissan.
“Another weird quirk is that unlike other Nissan’s, the Pathfinder interior is ONLY 65% cheap, hard, plastic”. Way to go Nissan!”.
Doug, ceiling mounted vents are a plus, not a negative! I've ruled out so many SUVs because they have center-mounted rear air it's not even funny. Give me ceiling-mounted every time - much more convenient for your passengers and it's easier to keep cool. More manufacturers need to go that route, IMHO.
You finally reviewed one yay!
"Today I'll show you everything!" Uhh...hold up a second, Daddy Doug.
he talks about center console vents in the second row like they are better. Second row cieling vents are SO much better
The floor mats on the back of the 3rd row seats is genius. I haven’t seen that before, would love it for my car.
🤯 Doug's reviewing a Nissan, I never thought I'd see the day!
Weird. The old one was sold under the name "Terrano" where I grew up, in Germany. My parents owned what must have been the 1988 model, the one with the triangular window, from the old ad Doug shows at the beginning of the video.
I was having the hardest time finding pictures of that thing. If it was sold under a different name in the USA, that explains why. SUVs were still rare in Germany and Europe in general back then and I doubt that they sold many under that differing name in that much smaller market.
Nah, the Terrano was not the Pathfinder. Terrano was another SUV built by Nissan. After the Terrano was dropped, they launched the X-Trail. Pathfinder is more like the predecessor of the Patrol, although I think they overlapped for a few years.
@@euteo Don't ask me why, but in Germany they definitely sold that exact car from that old ad, with the triangular window and the 3 distinctive slits in the front under the name "Terrano".
That is the name under which my parents bought it. That was what stood in the car's papers. That is what the badge on the back said and that is what was printed on the cover for the spare tire.
I myself drove the thing. My parents still had it when I turned 18 and got my own driver's license and I had to lift their huge dog up on the tailgate to take it for walks.
So this is no nebulous, dim early childhood memory that I could confuse.
Also, when learned the American name and was finally able to google pictures for it more successfully, even with using the "Pathfinder" search term, I still found a bunch of pictures that are named Terrano. So if I'm imagining things, I'm not the only one with that particular delusion, lol.
@@euteo The Terrano name was used on Pathfinders for the first three generations. It's confusing though because they also used the name on non-Pathfinders. You are thnking of the Terrano II which was followed by the X-Trail.
TrangleC, your right, the Pathfinder and Terrano of 88-95 are the same car, I live in Central America were the official imported cars by Nissan dealer are called Terrano, but the cars imported from USA are Pathfinders, in my family we have a Pathfinder 1995 and my neighbor have one Terrano, and be the same car (here he chose with Diesel engine, pathfinder only have gas engine )
The Pathfinder have more extras from factory than Terrano BTW, that’s why imported from USA are nicer
@@euteo you are really wrong, the terrano and the pathfinder are the same vehicle, just named different for different markets, in japan it's called the terrano, the X-trail is a completely different vehicle, and the patrol is like the oldest nissan (like the toyota land cruiser), there is the pathfinder wd21, r50, r50 facelift 99.5-04, r51, the mallfinder r52, and now this, the sort of pathfinder, imo it should be like the 4runner but well...
The new styling is nice and I’m impressed by the room available in the second row. Oh and the release mechanism for those second row captains chairs to access the third row, is cool too. But when it comes to everything else, Nissan’s competitors seem to do it better.
True. It looks like they copied the Hyundai Palisade. But the palisade does everything better. The body lines, the under console storage, the 2nd row release feature, the integrated roll up shade in the 2nd row, etc. all copied from the Palisade
Thanks for the review! Will you also be doing a tour of the new 2022 Infiniti qx60? Would love to see that comparison!
I love it when Doug reviews normal average cars such as these.
Hi! Doug, you can customize what you want to see in the main screen. I have a Qashqai and I have in the main screen map, radio and a couple of buttons to stuff I used the most. :)
The Pathfinder looks much more tough & aggressive looking than the Telluride. The Telluride looks like they could of done a redesign of the 3rd generation Yukon it looks to me like a Yukon. Pathfinder is much better vehicle all around & it's not a KIA. I bought the new Pathfinder & after looking at the it's rivals I was sold! Great looks great room for the kids. The driving experience is great even better in sport. We just love it.
Concur, better looking than Kia
Love the shirt 🙌🏾
Fantastic! I have the last great Pathfinder, a 2004, and have been waiting for them to get back to the roots. One thing you didn't emphasize though is reliability. The KIA may look good, but when it comes to reliability, the Nissan V6 is a beast and on-par with the Toyota engines. The previous generation Pathfinder had issues with the CVT, so it is great that they went back.
I never understood what old guys meant when they said "All cars today look the same" until now. And I'm only 19. They really do all look exactly the same now.
Joint developed with the Mitsubishi outlander. Looks very similar from the back
They really do
I disagree. There are design elements that are appearing on each type of vehicle, but there’s literally no resemblance between a Pathfinder and a CX-9, for just one example.
Frankly, that saying is just a lazy way of saying “I don’t like how vehicles are styled these days”
all 50s cars had similar design trends
all 60s cars had similar design trends
all 70s car had similar design trends
all 80s cars had similar design trends

And Infiniti can be saved too!
The New QX60 is awesome!
The new QX6O is no where as special enough. .
Highlander is a way smarter buy.
This is such a massive leap forward from the old Pathfinder that it's almost a shame to even call it a pathfinder
Personally I don't see it wanting to be "rugged", it looks way more elegant, the lines are clean and the panels are nicely glossy. Looks more like they are going more for a CX-9 competitor in that way.
My very first vehicle was a 1997 Nissan Pathfinder SE. This redesign looks really good and that interior looks amazing! I hope it sells well.

The rest of us would look like very challenged trying to get in, more like a squatting pooch. They should have door pillar stickers that look like Doug showing how to enter the rear seats
Just purchased a 2022 Pathfinder SV. Coming from a 2014 ford focus. WOW amazing vehicle. Trans is smooth as butter.
👱"So should we just use the standard 42 pt font for the rear Pathfinder emblem?"
👨"Absolutely not, let's go with the 200 pt font. I want people to be able to read it from a block away."
I love the new pathfinder it looks really nice imo.
The Pathfinder was absolutely awesome when it came out in the late 80s. The new models (last 15 years) look just like everything else similar in its class
I had been waiting for this one for awhile now, I've been anxiously waiting for my dealer to get one in inventory, dark green with the black top in platinum 4wd trim.
I’m obsessed with wanting it in white with the black roof, I didn’t even look at the other colors lol
