Hey there! Thanks for subscribing and leaving such a positive comment! I appreciate you sticking around for multiple videos. While responding to every comment within 48 hours is my aim, the UA-cam comments can get a bit rowdy sometimes, so keeping things clean takes some effort. Self clean uses extremely hot temps and could damage your oven. I never use it. To clean sheet pans use oven cleaner, let sit awhile then wash. Perfect every time.
It sounds like you might have seen my other video about cleaning sheet pans! Yep, I did suggest using oven cleaner in that one. And hey, just to set the record straight, after being in the appliance repair biz for over 30 years, I can guarantee that self-cleaning ranges are designed to handle the 800 to 900° F it takes for the self-cleaning process to work. Thanks for your feedback, Mike
Hi Mike, just checked it out and it was what I thought and I appreciate you offering it up. One thing I found is that sometimes when I gotta use my oven before the clean cycle is done (mine is 3 hours), as long as I've got at least 1.5 to 2 solid hours of the actual highest cleaning heat temp, I go ahead and kill the cleaning cycle and since it takes a while to cool back down to safe opening temp, that high temp coming down time will still be enough to clean the pans. Just wanted to reciprocate with ya on the various "learnings" I've also had along the way 👍🤙👌
Nancy, your uplifting comments never fail to brighten my day! In the unpredictable world of UA-cam comments, your consistent positivity is like a breath of fresh air. As always, thanks for taking the time to leave feedback, Mike 🧔 👍
I don't believe it would work. A self cleaning range gets to a temperature of between 800 to 900° f for a sustained amount of time. There's not very many grills that can do that. If you don't have a self-cleaning oven you can always watch my other video to see the alternative method, Mike 👍
I have the exact same oven (literally) but I'm not familiar with the self cleaning feature as I've never used it before. I have a general idea of how it works, just not a personal idea, if that makes sense. My question is regarding cleaning the pan when using this process. Did you use any spray or self cleaning chemical or Easy Off etc? How does the self cleaning oven function clean with just high temperatures?
Nope, I did not use oven cleaner before tossing the pan into the self-cleaning oven. Self cleaning ovens are like the superheroes of kitchen appliances, blasting away grime with temperatures soaring to 800 to 900 degrees Fahrenheit! The first time you use the self-cleaning option of your range, you'll have to decide whether to leave the racks in the oven. Leaving them in will cause them to discolor permanently. I personally don't have a problem with that because obviously I want to be able to clean sheet pans in the oven so I need the racks for the pans to rest on. Mike 🧔
Great, thanks for the information. I'll definitely use mine. So you literally just touch self clean lock the door and let it heat up for the specified chosen time and that's it?
If you have the same model as I do, then you have to push the handle just above the door from left to right to lock it. Then touch the self-clean button, then push start. It will get hot in the kitchen so you may want to choose a day where you can take advantage of that extra heat, Mike 🧔
Yep you are correct. The reason that oven manufacturer say that is because if your racks are still shiny, they will no longer be shiny after self clean. For me it's a trade-off, not so shiny racks but nice and shiny pans. That works for me, Mike 🧔
It depends on your definition of wrecking them? They will lose their shine that's for sure. But that's a trade-off considering they will still function and, it makes cleaning the pan a breeze. I will trade less shine for less work any day. Mike 🧔

Haha Bridget, I always look forward to your responses. It's not magic because it's science! And I can't take credit for it because it was sent in by so many folks leaving comments on my other video that I couldn't single one out and give them credit for it. So I would say it was crowdsourced! Until next time my friend, enjoy your fish and chips or is it bangers and mash? Mike 🧔👍
The self clean function on ovens is actually really bad for your oven. It heats up so much that it burns out control boards and circuits. It happened to me on my LG oven. The repairman told me to never use the self cleaning function on a oven because of all the damage it does to the components.
As someone who spent over three decades in the appliance parts and service industry, I can only recall a few occasions where using self-cleaning caused damage. But I certainly see the point you are making. Considering the fact that the temperature inside an oven when it is self-cleaning is between 800 to 900°F, if a component was about to fail, going into self-clean could finish it off. Mike 🧔
