I grew up with a father who said "Be a man, go outside and play sports, not with cards and toys".
Seeing a father support his son, and even engage in the hobby himself is fundamentally amazing to me. Love to see it.
Yeah I hate seeing how other people had happy lives xD
Same here
And look how his son looks, overweight unhealthly just horrible
Yeah it's something a lot of our fathers should have done. It's beautiful to see.
Same but instead of playing sports, it was go outside and work.
My late dad took me to locals, regionals, and picked up my homies when I was 13-17. Gave me money after working with him as I would just hand him his plumbing tools lol I miss my goat 🐐
Absolute W, your dad still lives on through you
R.I.P. He sounds like a great man and father.
A worthy opponent for Jeff Leonards
Make it happen
Combo Mill vs Stun 😂
I’m honestly the same and prefer not to use pot of desires if I play this deck. Nah all cards are valuable like mind set.
"when I stopped playing back then, that's because I didn't need to come to events and support you the same way, cause you had already far surpassed anything I could do and you were able to travel on your own; it was really about playing with you."
that's one of the sweetest things I've ever heard :´)
Man this is the most wholesome video ive ever seen. Happy fathers day mr kotton, your family is great ❤️
dad is already cooking up tech asking for cyber dragon. 😅
To be fair, it was a staple in many other archetypes for a good while after it came out.
dude wants to fire up the hardest Beckoning Light of all time one of these days
THIS is content.
YGO content in general has become so stale and homogenized it’s nice to see such a fresh take on what it means to play and watch yugioh.
Good shit Jesse and shout out to your dad for being a great parent
Bro as a gamer dad myself this video was extremely wholesome. No wonder your good at the game , yo dad while not even taking the game that seriously was naturally good just like yourself. Blessings to the both of you bro and dam you just made me feel old , i thought you was in your 30s like myself lol
Eyyy good seeing you here
I never had a dad. Never missed him, because I didn‘t know what it was like in the first place and because my mom and my grandmother did everything they could to give me and my brother a great childhood.
Still I sometimes kind of wish I could have experienced something like this back in the day. Super wholesome video, Jesse! ❤
I feel that man
This takes me back. When I started to get into yugioh competitively, I found locals to go and start. My father, who wasn't in the greatest health, wanted to spend time with my brother and I. So every Saturday, we would wake up and get ready, and all 3 of us would head to locals. Sadly, my father passed away 4 years ago, and watching this reminds me of all the memories we had playing and time spent together. I really miss him and wish I could replay those days again.
BRO this is crazy. Imagine as a dad, you play a card game, you need a 2000 dollars prize card for you deck, and your son just happens to have because he won the tournament you win it in xD. Love the relationship
I like how Jesse is the one who reacts like a worried but proud dad in the whole video.
Indeed, went from “I don’t want you to stress, just have fun” to straight Coach Dad and re-instilling the fear of not meeting expectations.
Happy Father’s Day to the OG Mr. Kotton!
Thank you for sparing the boys at locals the full extent of your skill, truly humble of you. LIGHTMALLON BEST DECK!!!
If your dad wants to play Marshmallon then give him the Shining Sarc deck. It has an even better Marshmallon!
This was the sweetest most whole some Yu-Gi-Oh content I've ever seen. Would love to see more of your teaching your dad to play and return to the game.
Your dad gets the award : "Fing amazing Dad" from me. Suporting your kids like that and taking part in their hobby while also beeing open to new things is so rare and truly amazing.
I can totally understand your father, when i was in my early twenties i got diagnosed a degenerative eye disease got the surgery, but it only stopped the progression. I got back with master duel into the game, tried to transition to paper, but i quickly realized i struggle at reading the cards like literally not as a meme xD and i've given up paper play. wholesome video jesse!
No reason to give up on paper play just because of a disability. There are phone tools that assist with reading, or you could just ask your opponent to read the cards out if you're worried about wasting too much time with a phone. I'm returning and I've been asking my opponents to read effects and explain their plays constantly, it's not really a problem. Honestly give a yugioh player the room to monologue about his deck and he's having fun so 🤷🏻
Your dad is an OG broski it's beautiful to see the dynamic between you two! Also the roles being reversed and you being dissapointed in you dad was hilarious, I hope he becomes a feature of the channel!
The ending made me tear up, man. Much love to you and your father Jesse. Also 27:20 he is one of us! He also can't read 😂
he followed his heart in that game, the same way you followed your passion, I respect him for that.
My dad always supported my hobbies no matter what they were whether it be sports or card games. Great Dad you got their Jesse.
Awesome content. My son brought to a locals in 2019 and been loving it since. Hilarious when we are paired against each other, but I believe he lets me win!... lol
That really nice suit in a locals? Classy, I love that it got really emotional at the end too a nice fathers day video!
Awesome video king!! Enjoyed every minute of it!! Hopefully I can be this awesome with my kids when they get older
Best video you have ever put out!! So relatable I’ve played yugioh my whole life and now I have a son who got his invite to dragon duel nats this year so we will be heading to Texas together!! Love the game it gives us another way of bonding!!
Damn, Bro's dad is a COO at Scotiabank :O
World Champion difference
Have your dad sign the marshmallon
Love this Jesse! S/O to your dad, this was incredibly cool to watch. I remember my dad taking me to locals back when I couldn’t drive myself and for Father’s Day I used my tournament winnings of store credit over a period of time on sports memorabilia my dad would enjoy. When he asked how I managed to afford such a neat gift he was shocked to hear it was from winning store credit in yugi tourneys.
Thanks for this video. My dad has always supported my running journey. I’ve never been that good, but have run in high school and college and trying to run competitively at the professional level. My dad drove me to early morning practices and ran with us in the summer time.
Being able to go home and run/hike with him is one of the most special things we do together.
And as a new dad, I hope to be as good a dad as he was.
I’m glad that you have had such wonderful support and family.
I play since 2005, and have played on and off, but the real competitive game and travel started for me in 2022. That same year, I was planning on stopping the competitive scene, but my eldest son was picking it up, so kept playing. Now we travel a lot, and play competitively. All this playing has strengthen our bond and brought us closer. I'm thankful with the game, and we have no plans of stopping any time soon.
this was such a cool video. Im a dad myself now with a 9 year old son, who unfortunately does not share my love for card games YET. He is a gamer but video games are his forte. I grew up without my Dad ever coming to any sports events, much less playing any games with me but not through any fault of his. But watching this made me so hopeful for when I can do something similar with my son. The part at the end almost made me tear up when your dad was talking about enjoying spending time with you and making memories. Ive been playing TCGs for almost 20 years now and this is by FAR the biggest goal I have left in gaming is to share the experience and fun with my son at an event in the near future.
This is absolutely awesome!!! My dad wasn't in my life much until I was older. I always wanted someone in my family to do things with like this. As a father now I hope to take part in things my kids will want to do. What he said there at the end of his segment was wholesome, and made you at a lost for words.
This was cool. I remember as a kid me and my dad would play yugi sometimes and it was fun. It's always so cool to see parents bond with their kid over stuff like this
Amazing video man❤My dad passed when I was four so I barely remember him and only know what he was like thru stories or watching old camcorder home videos. I never thought too hard about it because I was so young at the time I think I just became used to him not being there as awful as that sounds. Growing up without a dad is something that I am only really feeling the effects of now 15 years later as I’m a closer age to having a family of my own in only a few years (thats the dream at least). My mom worked grueling swing shift hours for over a decade so my three older sisters had to watch me a lot. But my mom is always super supportive, generous, and selfless. I’ve been lucky that she has supported my addiction to cardboard since I was 8 and now that I’m in college and she’s retired we’ve talked about potentially traveling to bigger events out of state together. This is a game I am extremely passionate about and while I still have so much to master and time/money can be a huge problem I do want to succeed. So even tho I can be moody or grumpy I am very lucky that she’s supported me this far. But I can’t help but wonder how different it would be if he was still around.
I saw those tear in the eyes at the end, hope you have a wonderful Father’s Day with your dad ❤
My late father used to play on Dueling Network back in the days. He'd try to get a higher rating than me and my brother. Sadly he passed away 2 years before I was old enough to go to tournaments, would have loved to go to an event with him. This vid made me imagine what that would have been like, so thank you for this!
Man this is wholesome.
I think we need to do something about the text problem for people with troubled vision. Maybe an app that scans the card adn then pulls up the text in a simplified state with links to explain ruling. Though frankly I think it would be better if Konami did this themselves.
This reminds me of me and my dad who watched Dragon Ball Z and Naruto together for quality time together. Sure it’s not the typical tossing the ball around but it helped shape me into the big nerd I am today and I wouldn’t want it any other way
This is a wholesome video. It be great to see you and your dad on a 3v3 team together.
This is awesome, let this be a blueprint for everyone.
This is dope, watching this during Father’s Day weekend hits home too. A dad supporting his son is always special
i wouldnt feel bad playing against someone whos just learning , those duels are usually the most fun
My dad was always playing yugioh with me, not anymore, but my best memories.
Bro i've always seen clips of you, this is the first video of yours i've watched. This was wholesome as hell, you got my sub man!
I knew jesse was born in South Africa, but his dad having such a thick South African accent was such a pleasant surprise lmao
Cool dad,let him have his campfire snack monster
Best yugioh video ever
Dam thats one of hell of a bond you and your Dad hold ❤ and respect Lightsworn ❤
While my dad never went to locals he did try to learn and play 1 time and that was some of the most fun I’ve had. You reminded me of that. Thanks Jesse
Top tier content. literally every other creator is just doing the same thing but reskinned. Thank you for posting quality stuff every time
dude, your dad just looks like your older brother in some pictures 😂so glad you and him grew up with such a good relationship
What a coincidence that he likes lightsworn + marshmallon and how both got support in LEDE haha
Your dad is so based for not activating Desires, a -10 card
I can't even blame him for not activating desires, That is such a scary card the first time you read it.
Definitely some of the best yugioh content I’ve seen in a long time. So fun to watch and really focuses on the reasons why this game is special. Happy Father Day, Mr Kotton!
Wholesome video. Your dad is awesome!
Happy Father’s Day to papa Kotton! Absolutely loved this video and shows the importance of fathers. Hopefully we can see more of papa Kotton on the channel and follow his new Yugioh journey.
You need to introduce your dad to the shining sarcophagus deck with the new marshmallon!
Ahh Jesse this video is beautiful, I'm also really close to my dad. Hes just gone back to the UK after being with me in Australia while I go through chemotherapy, he's been here 3 times this year and he reminds me of your dad, he gets involved with my friends, we have a laugh together and he is super supportive. Thank you for sharing this wonderful video. It literally brought tears to my eye 🥲😊
every Legend has a beginning
Man, that thumbnail is Gold haha. Welcome back to Yugioh, good sir! 😂
I can't get my father to talk to me, and Jesse is out here flaming his dad for spending time with him😂.
It was my favorite duel I've ever had. Me vs my dad, we were both 1 - 1 in a best out of 3 game using Yugi vs Kaiba starter decks and I won with the very last card, a feat that would be considered a true heart of the cards moment in a Yugi deck, this video was so nostalgic and fun to watch, and shout out to all the Yu-Gi-Oh dads
What a great job with this video. Your dad is amazing❤ (something about apples and trees)
We do see how cool your dad is, Jesse. I'd love to see Papa Kotton attending to locals as a series.
Hope my son takes a liking to ygo some day. In 10 years or so I could be the cool dad playing with him and taking him to events and reminiscing about how broken full power Ishizu Tear was 😂
This was the best video I’ve seen all year! Special bond you have with your dad Jesse, we love to see it! 🙏🏻
maaaan this is awesome, best dad ever
This video single handedly gave me enough dopamine to last 10 more tier 0 metas
Bring him back and teach him the Shining Sarc deck so he can play Marshmallon!!!
Him and Jeff need a yugiboomers podcast now
thank you for posting this video i have many memories of trying to teach my now late father went to go visit his grave yesterday how to play during machina format many years ago and while he was never able to understand the rules he once many years ago took me and two friends to the $0th SJC where i was 2 wins off of making day 2 with six sams with no grandmasters and playing great shogun shien i have many memories of this game with my father taking me to locals and while i do not travel as much as i used to due to health reasons something i am working on now to prepare for YCS Anaheim as if i am honest this may be my last big push as a comp. player as with disability checks making it super not easy to get the cards i need to keep up my time is running out
your dad is the goat
I can relate to your dad's love of Marshmallon. It's the same for me with Mirror Force because it won me the game that one time. Lol
Epic dad W!! Thnx for sharing Jessie!
Amazingly touching video. Also 1:03 the picture had BFG Rest in Peace
If we are bringing back players from 10 years ago, any chance we can get a locals or an event with Dale bellido. Fav player growing up
What a beautiful video. Thank you for making it dude.
Your dad is so funny and amazing for going to tournaments with you! This was such a feel good video, I loved it!
Love tnis! Keeping it in the family makes the game even more special. Happy fathersday Mr Kotton.
May the Marshmallow be with you!
This is the most wholesome video I've seen in a long time! It is awesome you have such a supportive dad. ❤
such a wholesome video, could see jesse choking up a bit at the last few minutes talking bout his dad. So good to see wish you all the best jesse mb if you come to london sometimes ill see you haha
its nice to share a passion for Marshmallon with the Dad of the best duelist lol.
I'm a dad and play, my son is 10 and he's playing for about two years now... Been to multiple ycs's, nationals and opens... Let's see if he ends up just as good as you are 😊Loved the vid!
With support, it’s absolutely possible ;)
@@jessekottonygo he got second at our dragon duel nationals (very small though) and we'll support him as much as possible, he'll be #1 dragon duel for the next 3 years, mark my words 😏
I would love to go to locals and see Trif, Milano, and Jesse with his dad
This video was so great, that we must create a meme and in every deck we build, we should add Marshmallon to pay respects to this man!
Hey Jesse, thanks for sharing this video, it was very wholesome. Glad to see you have such a good connection with your dad, he is really awesome! All the best to you and your dad :)
That was a wholesome video and happy Father’s Day Mr Kotton, you two deserve the best 🧡
Your dad should totally play Edison I think he would really enjoy older cards and a format he would be more familiar with. Also this was really wholesome great video.
Never knew Jesse’s dad played the game too. That’s AWESOME!
A very good dude. Have to support him supporting you
What an awesome fucking dad, happy Father’s Day to him!
Happy Fathers Day Mr Kotton!
What a great dad. You can tell he's trying his best to support his son.
