Okay, this is helpful, but the neurodivergent part of me instantly picks it apart. The world IS "ableist." Not just society, but nature itself. Nature selects for people who are young, physically strong, coordinated, and who process the world in a certain way. (I'm none of these, by the way.) Even those people can struggle to compete. It is to humanity's and sometimes religion's credit that we, at least at times, don't live by a strict survival of the fittest. While we advocate for more inclusion and the worth of ALL people, we also have to be realistic. Our current society with all its concerns is a social-construct and is very fragile. In a grid-down or other emergency situation, we have to be able manage as best as possible or have a plan in place. We've had some week-long or longer grid-down situations where I live in the past few years, and reality hits HARD. (This concerns the aging as well.) We cannot depend on, in an emergency, that there would necessarily be someone to immediately help us or to provide a specialized environment that meets our needs. For our lives' sake, we have to do the best we can to be able to provide for our own needs AND for the needs of those in more vulnerable conditions than our own. That is a bitter pill, but it is reality.

Great explanation. And another reason why the term high functioning autism is an ableist term. Mostly used to prop up capitalism
