@tom st I know that tom -- I'm making a point that even the GREAT Benedict XVI (an arguably greater writer than Benedict XII) misjudged his audience, even though he did nothing wrong -- Francis has done the same

    • @angelicdoctor8016
      @angelicdoctor8016 4 роки тому

@tom st So, tom, the quote from Manuel II Palailogos is this: "Show me just what Muhammad brought that was new and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." This is not the teaching of the Catholic Church concerning Islam, nor was Benedict XVI affirming that proposition -- but he could have known that people would misinterpret his usage of the quotation, even in an academic setting. People of course challenge some of Francis' "off the cuff" remarks, which he accepts. I wouldn't say that Francis' formal teaching has any error - I haven't seen it, and I've read all his promulgated documents since he assumed the papacy. If there is no error in Francis' teaching, how can it be said that he is deliberately causing confusion?

Rather than ... (because) we shall see Christ as he is... in seeing Jesus and finally becoming inflamed with the Trinity that is the Lord, we resume that destiny existing at the creation and in the garden but now with our sacrifice joined in union with the Father and Holy Spirit by the grace of our Savior Jesus.

To be born again, to be born from above, is when Christ is formed in us because it is He, Christ, that is born within the hearts of the believers. As Paul says that he presses on towards the upward calling so that he might attain to the resurrection. The resurrection Paul is referring to is Christ being born within us. We are as he is now, in this life.
He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.
    1 John 2:6
When he comes is when he comes to us personally in the Spirit. For he already came in the flesh and died for the sins of the world once and for all time. People make the mistake in thinking this is done on the physical plain but it is a spiritual transformation that happens in this life and extends into eternity. Eternity is now not some distant vague day in the future. Eternity is always now. Man was made in Gods image and likeness but we forgot, died spiritually, lost the awareness of God, and it is only through contemplating the Word of God and obeying, purifying ourselves from a sincere heart keeping Him in the forefront of our mind continually that we are restored to our original state. People make the mistake by thinking this is at the end of time but it is now in this life. It is too late after everything is destroyed. Today is the day of salvation.
Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:
    John 11:25 KJV
Christ is the resurrection in and of itself. Christ comes into our heart and we are purified from the inside out. Our true self is the inner man of the heart which is Christ Himself.
to whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:
    Colossians 1:27 KJV
That is our union with God and our salvation. The mystery of God that is foolishness to the world.

    PANARION BOOK V
    EPIPHANIUS OF SALAMIS
LXX. On the Schism of the Audians. L, but LXX of the Series
VII.III. But someone will be sure to say the sacred scripture means that the prophets saw God in their minds, because of the text, “Even their angels behold the face of my Father which is in heaven,” and again, “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.” 25 (4) If < someone > has noticed this and put texts together to fit his own conception, < he > might say that each prophet sees God in his mind, for he does not do it with his eyes
VII.V. But the sacred scripture contradicts this by saying through Isaiah the prophet, “Woe is me, for I am stunned, for I, a man of unclean
lips, dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips, and with mine eyes I have seen the Lord of hosts.” 26 And he didn’t say with his mind or in his thoughts but with his eyes, confirming the truths and certainties of the faith
Aquinas = in error because teaching that man does not see God with his eyes [in his whole being]

5:05 This is sound doctrine. it means implicitly that like the Kingdom of God it is with us, has been with us, and will be with us forever.
*Also the souls of those who will die in the future will see the same divine essence and will enjoy it before the general judgment*
*Such a vision and enjoyment of the divine essence do away with the acts of faith and hope in these souls, inasmuch as faith and hope are properly theological virtues. And after such intuitive and face-to-face vision and enjoyment has or will have begun for these souls, the same vision and enjoyment has continued and will continue without any interruption and without end until the last Judgment and from then on forever*
    Benedictus Deus
On the Beatific Vision of God
    Pope Benedict XII - 1334
Such a salvation does not depend on the Roman Catholic Church but on God the Son and His activities with Jesus Christ and God the Father. For God the Son speaking in Jesus Christ says "I am wholehearted as my Father is wholehearted"

    To be catholic
Requires that I adopt an artificial division between the OT and NT in which the NT takes interpretive priority and overrides the meaning of the OT at key, prophetic texts.
Requires I abandon a Standard, consistent historical grammatical hermeneutics and adopt a Christo-typological interpretation of the Bible.
I have to overlook the profound impact Greek Philosophy and allegory had upon Augustine's views of the Bible.
I have to ignore the historical reality that premillenism was believed by and taught by the early church up and until Augustine made it unpopular with the publication of his "City of God.
Requires that I ignore all grammatical indicators that clearly distinguish between the Jewish people and the nation of Israel and the NT church.
I have to believe promises made directly to Jewish Israel of a future salvation and restoration is fulfilled entirely in the NT church.
The NT church is the same as the OT "Israel".
I have to understand Revelation 20 to be a recapitulation that takes me back to to the beginning of the church age rather than than following naturally and chronologically from the events in Revelation 19.
    Shalom
