I am of the very strong opinion that SWSH offers the most functional, polished, and satisfying Pokémon experience to date. Certainly of that on the switch. You can not tell me with a straight face that SV were more challenging, or spectacular. Compare the Gym Battles, character designs, Raid functionality, progression through the region, Legendary quests, user interface and stability, etc. And towns? SWSH actually lets you explore around the buildings and interiors. SV's towns are barely set dressing. I'll concede that the individual character stories (Arven, Penny, Keiren, etc) may feel more satisfying in Gen 9, but as Pokémon games SWSH definitely are better. I truly believe Dexit and the stupid Wild Area tree completely sullied any unbiased discussion on the games.
While I do really like a lot about SWSH I feel like this undersells how good SV is, at least imo. SV's towns are definitely underwhelming, but the character designs and legendary quests in SV absolutely rule and are no lesser than SWSH, and Area Zero and the battles with the AI easily blows the climax of SWSH out of the water
I looked at your channel and assumed hundreds of thousands of subscribers, so imagine my surprise when I saw less than 700. Fantastic video, keep up the good work!
As someone who weirdly loves SwSh (It is my favorite of the Pokemon games after all) It's nice to see someone praise it for things it got well instead of just screaming 'THE TREES SUCK NO TURNING ANIMATIONS' etc. Also DANG you are SO underrated for how good your editing is!!
As someone who dislikes Gen 8, I'm glad at least you were able do find some joy in it despite its flaws. Your point about the general Pokemon adventure game being fun is a good one. .There's been plenty of criticism about how every Pokemon game is "just the same game over and over again" but honestly it just works. Also the user interface in Pokemon games is something I almost never hear pokefans talk about, despite that being a major part of the gameplay, I do agree SwSh's functions quite well.
Sword and shield is my all time favorite generation and games. It feels so cool, playing these games. These gym battles, attack animations and graphics feel so good. Plot is also incredible!
Gen 8 was my first official pokemon game (I'm saying that because I remember playing a pokemon game on the computer when I was younger and it was crazy)
The thing I loved most about these games was that they had all of my favorite Pokémon in them. Especially the Joltik line. It’s also really easy to make a mono type team in both games which gives it a lot of replay ability
Personally if the story of S/SH was better they would be my all time favorite Pokemon games of all time. The story is the one and only gripe I have with them but I still love everything about them.
So I'm glad there's other people enjoyed SwSh. I stopped after platinum and came back for gen8 and loved these games. Time crunch killed the potencial of these games nontheless i love em
Yessss finally some appreciation for the clean interface! Things don't need to be too flashy to be successful, I think it fits Galar's aesthetics well enough. One of the most memorable things for me was the actually pretty decent soundtrack, Toby Fox cooked for real. But I definitely agree with a lot of these points - the games weren't the best, but not the worst either... we'll see what happens with Legends ZA in the future lmao. Another great video, cool to see your insights :)
I wasn’t sure how my interface point would be received so I’m very glad you agree! Seemed like I was on an island a bit. Very much appreciate the support and I’m looking forward to Z-A too
The issue I have with DA is that there’s no control of the npcs in solo, so you’re at their mercy, and some fights, like Zygarde, became next to impossible to solo. Then it take minimum 20-30 min to even just finish and see id the legend is shiny.
You took 10 years off. I played ruby and sapphire when they came out and didn’t play again until scarlet and violet. Imagine how mind blowing it was about all the huge changes that got made in the 18-19 years I hadn’t played. It took a lot to get used to
No lies, I really liked these games, don't care what the fandom thinks. Sure, the story wasn't great but I really liked the characters, pokemon selection, DLC's, Galarian Star Tournament, Dynamax Adventures to get legendaries, and the look of pokemon outside gen 1 on the Switch Plus as someone from the UK, Galar really represents my home region perfectly, though only when it rains
Generation 8 is probably my least favorite generation, because although it has a few memorable Pokémon introductions, most of the Pokémon were so excruciatingly average. It’s like the most average thing of all time. But I will admit, this game is alright. It feels a little more open-world than the last 2 games. We also got Camp, which is a silly little feature. I’ll say this game is one of the best highlights of Gen 8.
Also, they could’ve made it open world after registering in the gym challenge. Like bro, you’re telling me that I can’t challenge Kabu first because I don’t have 2 badges yet? That’s messed up. You could challenge Raihan 4th, but you can’t because you need 7 badges. Sword and Shield had a lot of potential for open world, but Gamefreak decided not to.
I feel like its going to be a swsh sequel in a few years maybe 2 or 3 only bc the cones and scarlet and violet kinda set that up bc of the new open world 3d aspect . I think game freak knows they could have done more and they did it for that reason because theyre going to re release the games as a sequel or remake in a more open world
Sword was my first Pokémon game and I always thought it was really good, but after watching someone tear into it for four hours I agreed with everything they said. I played the games again to see how wrong I was and was incredibly disappointed.
I loved the sport aspect and it couldve been a good game if they had made the story a little better and the battles harder like leon for instance i think he shouldve been harder than cynthia i loved sword and shield also not gonna lie
The 8th generation may not have been the best but the worst Pokemon generation was definitely generation 3. Literally everything 2nd gen did great, the 3rd one turned upside down. Boring characters, poorly written villains, horribly designed world, horrible and very limited Pokedex which excluded many great Pokemon and replaced them with many bad ones (especially when it comes to their design), very short gameplay and a real middle finger of a post game. Battle Tower, huh? Who could even have thought it was a good idea? One thing it can in any way tried to do well was with story but it still is really just bad. Storytelling still wasn't there with generation 3. But looking at gen 1st and 2nd, one may ask if Pokemon games even need a story because they are so heavily gameplay-driven that story clearly takes a back seat in such a case. To tell the truth, the only thing I find good about gen 3 is introduction of Salamence and Metagross. Maybe also Blaziken But that's that. Also, if people are paying such an attention to tree textures or frame rates instead of things that actually matter, then no wonder they have hard time enjoying games. I find Sw/Sh quite enoyable. They sure are very flawed, but stuff like Max Raid Battles, Wild Area exploration and even some gym puzzles can be a lot of fun. Music is quite good in these games too.
Terrible opinion. Scarlet and Violet were amazing games, they just were poorly optimized, which they somewhat continue to be. If the games were optimized well enough, audience reactions would've been much better because it is such a good game, as a lot of Pokemon fans can agree. Sword and Shield on the other hand, disappointed on a whole new level, as people had higher expectations with it for being the first AAA Home console Pokemon game. The Pokemon designs were good, but Gen 9 had much more iconic designs (Tinkaton, Ceruledge, Koraidon, Iron Thorns, etc). Scarlet and Violet are much more bold and new, and risk a lot by being open world. I feel like Legends Arceus and Scarlet and Violet are a return to form for GameFreak, and people give SV a hard time just because it's poorly optimized, which is stupidity in my opinion. I never let bugs get in the way of my opinion of the game, unless the bugs make the game unplayable. Scarlet and Violet had noticeable bugs, but none too harshly impacting the average playthrough.
Excellently crafted video, well done!
My goodness, I very much appreciate it!
I think I'm the only person to have SwSh as my favourite game
I'm probably the only person who has scarlet and violet as their most played game
@@markten2430 yes you are
@SplodgeOfChippy you're not alone even my favourite video game is swsh
They're my wife's favorite too
It's my favorite too actually! Cool to see another person who likes swsh :)

Well put. Definitely agree about the individual character stories and SWSH does not get their flowers for being more polished.

Hell yeah! You’re the type of person I made this video for then. I knew I couldn’t be the only one. Thanks for hangin’ and I appreciate it. 🤝
The decline in quality of the pokemon company has lead to many pokemon players trying out some of the other 100+ monster taming games

Appreciate the feedback! Legends Arceus was a breath of fresh air, but it’s hard not to have a good time with the general Pokémon adventure.

I haven't played a pokemon game since God knows when. My last game was 2004. I just bought a switch Time to get back into the world
Inteleon literally has a built in sniper... how can you not love that??
Because Inteleon is Randall from Monsters Inc. We do not like Randall.

Am i the only one that thinks swsh looks better than scarlet and violet
it just doesn’t-
Swsh is a overhated gen and nobody should be berated called a moron for liking it same with sv

nice video man
I still play swsh but I am yet to buy the dlc, do you guys think it’s too late to buy the dlc now and that the game will be shut down soon?
Gen 8 was salvaged by solely by PLA.
SwSh was a slog & BDSP still feels like a troll on the audience.
I'm going to have to agree on the final evolution they are not very good and best galar starter is rillaboom.
I'll be honest I pokemon sw/sh pokemon size scailing it would be my fav game ever
A bigger sw/sh would be awesome. I like the username pokebassist
The worst gen is gen 1
Gen 8 wishes it was the worst generation after the horror that is Gen 9.
gen 9 is unfinished, gen 8 was bad
If you touch any other game you realize that this series sucks

The worst gen id gen 6.... XY sucks...
oras was part of gen 6 tho
This is false. Gen 9 is easily the worst pokemon generation
