  • In this video, I explore and compose a song using the fifth mode of the Melodic Minor scale, the Mixolydian Flat 6 mode. It is the fifth mode of the Ascending Melodic Minor scale, often called the Jazz Minor Scale.
    I use a 2008 Gretsch G5120 to demonstrate.
In the final version I use:
Guitar: American Original 60s Thinline Telecaster
Bass: Fender Bass VI Pawn Shop
    Synth: Yamaha DX7
Vocals recorded with a Shure SM7B and a Shure Green Bullet.
I use the Art Pro MPA II and the Art Pro VLA II as outboard gear.
Everything is recorded using a Universal Audio Apollo Twin USB.
Mixed and recorded with Cubase 12 Pro.
    Song: I Wish You Well
Words and Music by David Boily

I just posted a new one, already working on more. I have a Dorian Flat 2, an Aeolian Dominant, a Lydian Augmented and a Lydian in the works.

I have Gmaj as a "flat VI" chord, Going to the Bminor " i " chord. Ending the section of music. Is this a cadence? If not, can it effect writing a better melody?
