    Just a short explanation about the change of seats: It is sometimes necessary that people need to stay on their assigned seats because the weight balancing of the plane is always being calculated based on that seating assignment. And under certain circumstances the plane weight balancing can be so called "trim critical" which means that if the balancing is altered in a specific way the manoeuverability of the plane is affected which can be very dangerous during takeoff. After takeoff the plane is not that critically affected by the weight balancing which means people can then sit wherever they want. So in your case cabin crew just ensured the safety of your flight :)

  • @flyerflier8543
    @flyerflier8543 3 роки тому +103

    Hey Josh!
    The "No moving seats" on the ground rule is due to the trim set by the pilots with regard to the weight, balance and distribution of cargo affecting the centre of gravity for departure. Once airborne, it is safe to move around. So you didn't see the crew disregarding or "giving up" on rules after take off.
    Also a slight issue for me is that currently, travel is for essential reasons only. Theoretically, you shouldn't even be travelling, so I don't really think its right for you to be pissed at the lack of service. The less items airlines give to their customers, the less hand-to-hand interaction and less need for the crew to be walking round the cabin as much, potential spreading germs. The lack of service is to keep everything to a minimum. On such a short flight, there's not exactly a great need for service currently anyway.
    Nonetheless, nice review. I just wish you'd sometimes think outside the box, or think about possible external factors you're not aware of before you go ranting about the crew and service. Remember, this is all new to them too, and its changing by the day. Also consider the fact that they're probably having people shouting at them all day, everyday due to things being the way they are. Cut them some slack. During normal circumstances, I would agree with you, but not at the moment with everything going on.

      there`s so much weight on a aircraft now to keep people happy inflight. I still remember the ` Gove Nhulunbuy ` getting on Old Ansett 1970`s smoking seats to Cairns flight took 3 / half hours. but that`s good service back then better than now days..

      FlyerFlyer the "No moving seats" rule is just for covid 19 in order to reduce contact among different passengers because if a passenger reveals to be positive after the flight only the nearby rows require a quarantine.

    Just a quick reminder that travel is only for ESSENTIAL purposes anyone? Of course the crew would also be worried about their safety...
    Any airline crew now would most certainly be working under stress... worried about their health given the Coronavirus Pandemic and job stability given the huge layoffs... the LAST thing they would need is a blogger/vlogger giving them bad publicity in an already stressful working environment!!!

    • @fizarharun
      @fizarharun 3 роки тому +6

      We live and travel in an unprecedented period right now what with the pandemic. Though health and safety is eminent, standard of service should never be compromised. Never!
      With the downturn of the aviation industry, with less travellers flying, standard of service should be maintained or not made better no matter what the situation is.
      Food and beverage should also be maintained and served on board all flights. Food are sealed and heated and all food and beverage containers should be disposable to meet health and safety standards.
      Not having meal or drink service on any flight is only an excuse for airlines to cut costs.

    FYI; The reason that the cabin crew didn't wan't passengers changing seats before take-off is because the plane needs to be balanced for take-off. If everyone goes to one side there would be a disproportionate weight on one side that will effect aerodynamics of the aircraft. Once airborne it's not such a problem as fuel can be pumped from one wing to the other.

    As cabin crew we reach a point where is impossible to make people understand the standards as we are not the police, we only try to minimize the possible impact and continue with our work, this is also a humanitarian responsibility, cause its physically impossible we can not be in the cabin like in school educating people.I’m not defending this crew as you said they were rude also, just trying to explain that the situation is more complex sometimes on board than it can be seen from a passenger seat. I specially don’t like flying Turkish but I fell to much criticism from you this time though. Anyway great job and I love your videos, thanks for sharing this experience on the 350. Send you a hug.

      Well, as cabin crew it is your responsibility to report those passengers who do not comply with regulations or disobey a directive from a crew member to the ground staff upon arrival to the gate. These defiant passengers know that nothing will happen to them most of the time so they feel they can do what they want. Make sure that they will have to deal with the consequences.

    • @juanjosepalacioslopez7305
      @juanjosepalacioslopez7305 3 роки тому +8

      @@delmontalbot7702 I know but it’s not that simple, cockpit must be involved also and they make the final decision, a simple disobedience passenger can become an unruly passenger and compromise the safety of the flight and all the situation can get worse, and there are 200 or more passengers on the flight besides these stupid ones that we need to take care also, so it’s also a balance to find to avoid unsafe situations. Don’t defending these crews cause I don’t know the real situation, just giving our point of view that sometimes our behavior doesn’t look comprised from the passenger seat but it’s not what it seems. Hope it helps. Thanks.

    • @ChicagoJD

      @@delmontalbot7702 you never know what else happened. I know that on United and American when a passenger refuses to comply with wearing a mask the flight attendants try to make them comply, but eventually move on and report the passenger to the captain who then radios the airline and that person is placed on the airlines do not fly list. They don't tell the passenger so they don't flip out in flight. If they are connecting or try to fly home from where they landed, they are screwed. Maybe Turkish did the same with the trouble passengers on this video.

    I can understand the face mask rule. The 3-ply medical procedure masks are way more effective than the cloth masks that most people wear. The cloth masks are not much more than fashion statements. The 3-ply medical masks have an electrostatic charge which helps trap viruses. At the onset of the pandemic medical masks were in short supply so governments told people to wear cloth masks to insure that medical masks were available for front line healthcare workers (they lied to us at that time discouraging the wearing of medical masks ) . Today that is not a concern. 3-ply medical grade procedure masks are readily available everywhere - even in your local dollar-store. As for the aircraft that is the nicest economy class seat that I have ever seen. In conclusion, Josh you should always wear a 3-ply medical "procedure" mask. You can still wear a cloth mask over the medical mask.

    I think you are being too harsh towards the crew Josh. Whilst I appreciate your concerns about no consistency with policies and procedures within Turkish airlines and between airlines themselves, you have to understand the crew are not police. They can't make people obey them! Crew can only try to enforce the rules regarding social distancing etc. Once your airborne what do you expect them to do? All any of us can do is try to make things as safe as possible and you have to consider public and cultural perceptions towards the pandemic. I agree the lack of service is disappointing and that different airlines do different things but at the end of the day airlines are losing money and people are losing livelihoods and lives. I am former crew and generally enjoy your trip reports as I am passionate about aviation, so keep them coming.

      I totally get your point, but at the same time if there are no consequences for not following the rules then why bother having the rules in the first place. It is frustrating for a passenger who does follow the rules to be rudely reminded to do something and then 25 minutes later see others ignore them completely and nothing is said. This is the same argument I have with London Underground. By law you have to wear masks or there is a fine, if you’re ever caught. The problem is the police can only find you and I’ve never seen them on the Underground therefore too many people don’t bother to wear them and the staff are powerless to do anything. It’s just frustrating either way.

    • @JoshCahill
      @JoshCahill  3 роки тому +3

      Thanks Andrew, I do appreciate your comment and yes you are right too. I don't mean to be harsh, but I don't like that airlines communicate such matters in the name of covid. If they would be upfront and tell everyone that they struggle we would change our point of you. It's very hard to find the right balance between customer appreciation and excuses in the name of covid. But I mean most crew have a 0 tolerance policy on board if anything threatens safety, so they should have the same policy towards corona rules.

  • @rogerhargreaves2272
    @rogerhargreaves2272 3 роки тому +4

    Hey Josh. I can offer you an explanation into the seating allocation issue. Seats are allocated to passengers throughout the aircraft in a way to spread out the centre of gravity. Too many passengers at the back of the aircraft, then the centre of gravity is too far back and the plane can get into difficulty taking off too early, and vice versa. Also de-planing is planned ahead so passengers move slowly from the back to the front. It may look funny, but it has happened where the centre of gravity is too far back and the aircraft has tipped back onto its tail while parked on the ground. This also applies to the distribution of freight. The crew don’t want passengers moving around as the Pilots will have calculated the centre of gravity for both take off and landing. Stay safe. Rog from Wales. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

    • @hrnkrt46
      @hrnkrt46 3 роки тому +1

      Your comment is true but right now it isn't actual issue. The issue is to identify the passengers who sat next to each other. İn case of covid positive they must know who sat around each other. Some cabin crew explain the reason but while many people ask for that they might have not had time to explain.

    • @rogerhargreaves2272

  • @neilpickup237
    @neilpickup237 3 роки тому +7

    Pre pandemic I flew on a rather empty Jet2 737-800, and we were asked to occupy our allocated seats for take off because the aircraft balance had been calculated based on that. However, during the flight and landing, we were free to sit wherever we chose.
    I can also understand, that during the pandemic, they may not only want to reduce movement in the cabin, but since the exposure time to the virus is also significant, should a passenger test positive shortly after, they may need to identify the passengers sitting the closest to them.
    However these are only possible explanations, they are not excuses for the cabin crew not telling you why. From personal experience I can testify, that people are far more likely to behave as you need them to and follow instructions if the reasoning is delivered politely and clearly.

    On my TK flights during the pandemic, people behind me were trying to change seats but the crew did not allow it and told them to sit at their assigned seats which they did. I was under the impression that they were taking it very seriously, maybe a bit too much, so I don't agree with you there but on the food and service I think you are absolutely right. Its a shame that they're ruining their reputation by cutting so hard which is unnecessary.

    Flew on Emirates recently and the cabin crew were able to efficiently police the "no changing seats rule" however there were plenty of people onboard who were looking to break the rules & it caused a lot of stress for the cabin crew. It's sad that the convenience of a passenger (i.e. "I want to lie down, you can't stop me") gets in the way of a safe & sterile cabin.

    I can see where you’re coming from from a customer perspective but also you have to understand that there’s only so much cabin crew can do if the customer doesn’t want to comply you need to understand that we are not police we are not border force and both cases reporting will happen and these customers are usually dealt with after the flight the best thing you can do is follow the guidelines set up by professionals wash your hands wear your mask sanitise your area and make sure you stay safe… I’m a cabin manager and sometimes it’s easier to deal with these customers after they can receive a ban from flying warnings or sometimes people from the company Or offices would be waiting for these individuals at the end of the flight

    I love love A350. Its a beautiful aircraft and so quiet. I have flown on TK on 777ER and 321 and to try their A350 which looks like a great product. Actually its about safety and that you need to sit at your assigned seat during take off and landing. I had taken TK to BEG and I must say that the crew was facing issues with its passengers. I must say that it was handled professionally and they tried to find a luggage which she left at the gate. We did leave 10 minutes later but with loads of apologies from the crew. So I have yet to experience what you had just described.

    I don’t get it why they’re so defensive. You’re providing constructive criticism, they should thank you and state that they’ll relook at their processes and procedures, even if that actually means they’ll do nothing . Their response just rubs people up the wrong way. Think the person who responded should go through a customer service and communication course.

    I agree with your comments about the crew in general. I had bad experience with turkish airlines on a flight from Istanbul to Vienna. My front seat was assigned to someone else (double booked), and was advised to sit at the rear side of the plan . I asked them for a front seat as booked or upgraded seat, they asked me to sit in the rear side, or to leave the plane ... I ended up sitting at the rear side, refused their meal service, and definitely would never fly with them again.

    I still think that you are going hard on TK. Yes, the crew is always weird, but they can't do anything about people randomly moving over seats. It's not their job. If they did, that would be your problem. You went to the domestic lounge (not the international), they had sandwiches, yet on Instagram, you said they only have one food. I know that they cut down horribly on their products and I miss that service too. But other big airlines have also cut on food and they also blamed on COVID. Airline marketing won't say that "We are doing bad, we won't serve food", they will blame it on COVID.

    I’ve heard you say many times how rude crew is on Turkish. I’ve never flown them but I can relate in that since this pandemic flight crews have become extremely rude in enforcing said “rules.” Meanwhile it’s a joke to take away food and beverages and give you a bottle of water. They are just hiding behind COVID-19 to do their cost cutting. Great review Josh❤️👍✈️

    First of all let's make it clear that the crew on any airline are not hooligans just because they try to implement rules on board albeit for safety or covid19, the problem is with the airline management and the passenger, the airline trains its crew to a very high standard as set down by the relevant World wide CAA, s, however when the crew try to implement these rules for the safety of all on board and some wise arse thinks they know better and refuses to do as requested and required then the crew have to make a decision as to follow it up and insist or find themselves on the managers mat because a passenger has complained, eventually they go for the easy option of (I asked and they refused so I did my bit) it's the passenger who has become the hooligans due to the proliferation of low cost airlines and making available air travel to the ill mannered and crude of this world. Having been a flight attendant for over 30years it soon became apparent that some races are better behaved and more perceptive than others (Japanese, Chinese, Germans,) all of which I have carried and I have to say that sadly the English are among the most troublesome on board, they seem to find it impossible to stay in their seat unless visiting the bathroom and seem to revel in walking up and down the cabin while drinking just to let everyone know they are there. I worked 8& half years on private jets and I never saw those passengers behaving in such a way and they owned the aircraft I have always said aircraft etiquette is down to education and the price of the ticket.

      I totally agree. If crew asks politely and passenger don't comply they call it no enforcement. If crew enforce then they call crew rude and even Hooligan. People expect pre-pandemic conditions while it is pandemic time.but it doesn't seem soon possible
