Thanks for the informative tech review, this game is on my to play list, good to know how this is performing, while I understand that switch is aging, it does make me wonder how this will run on the Switch 2 ~
It never ceases to amaze me what they can do with this ancient mobile Tegra SOC from 2015! It’s just mind blowing. Think how much CPUs and graphic chips and mobile SOCs have advanced over the past 9 years.

I was able to play it on switch and i have to say it isnt that bad. It is the switch-version of a good looking open world game. After 7 years we get switch-versions like 3ds version of games or wii versions of games back in the days. PS: patch is out.
I picked it up two days ago with the 20% off from pre-order. I do hope few things improve with some patches. Still going to play it. I enjoy playing it so much on PS4.
Hey, I always wanted to play this, and I personally don't have time to game on my home console - only my switch. In that case, would you still recommend picking this up for the switch? I don't care much for graphics tbh. As long as gameplay, and smoothness isn't game breaking. Thanks! ❤🎉
A cat in a Mech suite? If i knew that i would have picked it up a while ago! Speaking of narration, i think Matt Berry should narrate every game ever made, i could listen to that man all day.
I like Demakes .. . And with that being said, I like that that so many of these games are ported over to the switch even if they have to be downgraded a little bit. I hate to see people complaining so much about these games where sacrifices and adjustments had to be made but still, all things considered, I'm always glad to have these ports and hope they continue!
This is a great game for mobile platforms. I find it easy to dip into and out of this one for some quick fighting, looting, and crafting to distract myself for 15-30 minutes at a time (lunch break). Compromises were made, but I don't find them too distracting. X-Box Series X visuals are MUCH better, and gameplay is way smoother, but there is still fun to be had on the switch.
Well, it definitely has some performance issues, but looks so vibrant and colorful! Thanks for the very in depth review, I didn’t know much about this game 😊
This is why I love the Switch. Good ported games even with some downgrades in textures etc can still play amazing on this device. Witcher 3, Doom Eternal, The Outer Worlds and Remnant From The Ashes ...all amazing great ports imo. I am hyped for the new successor of the Nintendo Switch and I hope Switch 1 games can be run on bc. I just bought the physical copies Double Dragon Gaiden, Double Dragon Collection and Metroid Prime Remastered. My family wont see me for a month😂. And as always great in depth review! I may pick this one up this year. The Last Faith and Castevania advance collection are next in line for purchase
Appreciate you getting this out so early. I've been hoping to pre-order this, but was concerned about performance. Looks good enough for me - though a few patches to improve things further would be great. Thanks again!
I have been waiting for the Switch version of this game since this game was announced. I’m definitely playing it. Good to know how it looks and runs though. Seems decent enough for such a large game. I’m sure the Switch 2 upgrade will look great
It actually looks way more solid than I was expecting, honestly. And sure, it looks worse than other versions, but if this were the only version I think we'd be blown away by how good it looks on a portable!
You guys have done it again. I didn't think I would see any channel covering this but of course my fav Switch channel has. Appreciate it. I am picking this up as a physical today because I love these ports on Switch. I will see if there is a patch today. 🎉
It will be very interesting to revisit this port with an all patched up video, can't wait to see that video. Honestly one of the best series of videos you guys make, invaluable content
I really enjoyed Biomutant on my Xbox. My personal favourite about this game is the weapon crafting, exploration and character builds. My Mutant started from a melee focused character to finally be a magic gunslinger. You are be really OP with a certain loadouts. I do hope they up the graphics a bit via patches though. I wholeheartedly recommend Biomutant!
Then, when you have found the shrubbery, you must place it here beside this shrubbery, only slightly higher, so you get a two-level effect with a little path running down the middle....
A big thanks for this massive review (and all the others before ^.^ ). In 2021 i hesitated because of the massive hype/hate waves it has received but now for Switch the time feels right and i bought it a few hours ago. Cant w8t to play... and looking forward for the next all patched up 😉
This is the kind of review I love the channel for, in-depth analysis of performance including handheld (incredibly relevant to me) while still covering the "fun" of the game and remaining objective. I really appreciate the effort you go to Mark and look forward to seeing more especially on the upcoming release of Morbid. I do hope Sabre Interactive continues to work on it and All Patched Up reports significant improvements even if it takes a few episodes as I'd quite enjoy picking it up in future. Thanks Mark!
I'm genuinely excited for it now! I can always count on you guys to be honest but give the score I actually care about "Did I have fun?" Which is a yes and counts all the bad as well. I was worried because every other review I found was "BAD UNPLAYABLE GAME! NO BUY" and not once the incoming patch! This is again why I look to you all for the final review because you mentioned it! I'm walking away happy with my preorder and excited to play it! 😃
Im actually excited about this game now. A lower price makes it less painful when it gets janky. After watching a lot of videos on Biomutant, it shows some really unique and interesting stuff.

I wonder if the clue is that the companies now know a ‘switch 2’ is on the way. And the ones that are bothering to port just cant really do it on this hardware now plus they know it might be a waste of time??
I pre-ordered this as soon as I could, as my PC is too old to play this and from what I read and seen it didn’t meet expectations, but it’s no Anthem! Hope it’s still fun.
Biomutant is a weird one for me- I've always known the game is far from perfect and it's always felt like there were many hints or ideas of features and mechanics that never quite made it into the game. Nevertheless, I cannot bring myself to dislike the game, because I can easily lose myself in it for hours just exploring and completing side quests. It's a great game to de-stress and kill some time on. Despite the flaws pointed out here, I will pick it up on Switch, as I'll happily take the downgraded visuals for the chance to play it handheld. I still have my PS4/PS5 version to enjoy the gorgeous graphics on!
I played it on the Xbox and I really enjoyed it, I think the world is very explorable and really liked the narrator. It's a shame it wasn't better received

I'm not going to lie. This looks far far better than I was expecting! I still don't think I'll be picking it up on switch, but I was expecting far worse.
I've not played this on other platforms, but I have purchased this today. Love your reviews as always. Let's hope the developers do patch this game and make it less yank. Nice to hear they've contacted switchup with a promise of a patchup... The go-to game I always go back to, tho is MH Rise, as that game is unbeatable
If i can make it through The Outer Worlds, i can make it through this 😅 Thanks for the review, i think I'll wait until it's £20 or less and then give it a go 👌
Ok, I am starting to watch this video right now because I preordered the game(not knowing you guys would do a performance review before release and I wanted to benefit from the discount).
I think it’s funny that these amazing port reviews sound like apologies. These are amazing games running on 8 year old handheld hardware, albeit with some sacrifices. We’re Switch owners. We know what we signed up for and you’ll never see me complaining about a developer giving it their all to bring over an ambitious game to a nearly decade old machine. I just can’t wait to see what they’ve learned this gen and how they use it for the Switch successor. Good times are on their way!
Looks like it's all over the place. Sometimes it looks acceptable, while in other places it looks worse than some PS2 games. The lack of atmospheric effects can be felt dearly. This is one game I stuck with because of the aesthetics, and with that gone it isn't worth it on the Switch. Kudos to the porting team though for getting it to run!
I bought this on PC at launch and I really enjoyed it, it's full of jank but there is a really good game at it's core. If they had another go to refine and cut out the chaff they could make a really good sequel.
Looking forward to this one, even after the expected "the Switch was always weaker and now is also very old" review. :D I preordered the game because i never got around to actually try it ony any other system.
It's there and it kind of works, but it's far from ideal. They did what they could. All the more reason to embrace the upcoming Switch 2. Which of course, will be outdated upon arrival, but I just love being able to play games on the go!
I'm surprised this game actually came to Switch after all, because I'm under the impression it didnt do very well commercially on the other systems. Which is a shame, because I really enjoyed it on Xbox and I think people who want to try something properly unique should give it a try. Probably not on Switch, mind, there are just too many compromises made to make it worthwhile by the looks of things.
Mark, quick question, when it comes to capturing footage for handheld performance for the video, how do you do it? Is there specific equipment or software you prefer to use?
Imo the smaller screen, i.e switch lite, it looks really good considering that this is a modern game. I might check it out next month Lord willing and the creek don't rise. This looks awesome.
That wouldn’t help. Textures are stored in the RAM so lowering the resolution would not have given you more ram to use for textures. Combine that with the relatively slow ram in the switch that’s why so many switch games have low quality textures, especially on games built for more powerful hardware
@@crestofhonor2349 I feel educated. Thanks! My simpleton brain assumed all resources are pulled from the same pot. Then again.. I haven’t dabbled in PC gaming in years, so messing around with graphics settings and hardware load are a bit fuzzy for me.
These technical reviews are amazing! Always waiting to see if @SwitchUpYt thinks the port is worthy 😂. Still waiting on Batman and on the fence here. Thanks guys See ya!
I'm a bit Nathalie Imbruglia (torn) on this one. I wanted to love it. Wanted to get it. But now I'm not so sure. Hopefully the all patched up review will be better ... i won't be holding my breath though.
Since the game had issues on PC when it was originally released, good solid port once knowing this isn't a lively open world and more fight how you want
visual look so much better than Pokemon scarlet & violet. despite that its really time for Nintendo to make Switch 2 with at least 2 times peformance from current Switch, targeting all game at 60fps at least
I know this game averaged a 7/10 when released but I loved this game. Was it generic? Yes but I had a lot of fun with this one. It’s never gonna change gaming but this one will be one of those Cult games that will be remembered fondly. I must admit I didn’t have high hopes with this Switch review in regards to performance.
I think this is one I’ll keep on Xbox, I enjoyed my time with it then but this isn’t worth a second purchase, now Remnant is a game I’ll be buying again for switch.
The update is already out on switch right now to let you and others know, it came out at least in very very few minutes or hours after it was released to play at 6:00 am NY time for switch
I’ll most likely pick this up on another system (heresy!). But it is amazing how much power developers are getting out of of the Switch with these ports
It’s kind of unthinkable that they managed to get this even close to functional tbh, although I may end up just getting the cheaper version on another console, especially as I spend most of my time on the switch playing in handheld. Still, Saber seems to have done a seriously good job at getting things to a playable, if slightly ugly state!
I wanted this game so bad because it looked so vibrant on the previews. 😫 I may still pick it up on a sale...... along with the pieces of my now broken heart. 😅
This is a tech demo for me. Will I play Biomutant on the Switch? If there’s no update that improves the graphics? NO. Biomutant is the ultimate proof for me that we need a Switch 2. I really hope there’s a free Switch 2 update for the game. Because then it could be a good title. The game at the level of the Series S on the Switch in handheld mode? That would be great.
The game looks interesting but I definitely want to hold up and see what this patch does. Looking forward to your upcoming all patched up series to see if I should go ahead and get this one or just wait for a sale.

The go-to game I always go back to, tho is MH Rise, as that game is unbeatable
Looking at you, Eiyuden Chronicles
If i can make it through The Outer Worlds, i can make it through this 😅
Thanks for the review, i think I'll wait until it's £20 or less and then give it a go 👌
What are the joycons you were using around the 12 minute mark?
Funtek info and 15% disciunt in description. Mark
Algo tickled. Thanks Mark.
Can't wait to play this game is amazing
It is a fun game beneath the bank for sure. Mark
Hope to hear some good news regarding this game on Friday's APU. Thanks for the review. Cheers.
It's a fun game still, they did the best they could. Mark
It's there and it kind of works, but it's far from ideal. They did what they could. All the more reason to embrace the upcoming Switch 2. Which of course, will be outdated upon arrival, but I just love being able to play games on the go!
The truth is always behind the Switch up review.
Really enjoyed this game on PC, Switch lacks games like this for me,sorta like AC Odyssey kind of exploration with lots to do,sidequests, hidden items
Excellent review, thanks folks. And man... I do enjoy my Switch, but *boy* am I getting tired of "the switch version."
Imo the smaller screen, i.e switch lite, it looks really good considering that this is a modern game. I might check it out next month Lord willing and the creek don't rise. This looks awesome.
Not really
I would have preferred a somewhat lower resolution in exchange for better textures.
Whew, the textures look ROUGH!
AWESOME content as always
Appreciate that
Holy Cow😮😱This looks pretty good!!!
These technical reviews are amazing! Always waiting to see if @SwitchUpYt thinks the port is worthy 😂. Still waiting on Batman and on the fence here. Thanks guys See ya!
Oh yeah they need to patch that again. Mark
I'm a bit Nathalie Imbruglia (torn) on this one. I wanted to love it. Wanted to get it. But now I'm not so sure. Hopefully the all patched up review will be better ... i won't be holding my breath though.
Haha that made me chuckle! Mark
As long as it plays fine that's all I care about. I don't really see the point in comparing to the a pc version or xbox/ps copy.
I feel ya mate it has a LOT of great ideas in there. Mark
I might take a shot and buy this one.
I think this is one I’ll keep on Xbox, I enjoyed my time with it then but this isn’t worth a second purchase, now Remnant is a game I’ll be buying again for switch.
I want to say this about the game reminds me of the Fable games series. One through 3 Fable.
Honestly plays better then i was expecting it too. They might patch it up or give up on it
I have this on Series X and I know this is Switch but boy that looks rough. Get it on Xbox for a tenner.
FR
Very curious about this game. Looks fun.
The update is already out on switch right now to let you and others know, it came out at least in very very few minutes or hours after it was released to play at 6:00 am NY time for switch
Nice one thanks for the heads up!
