I love love love the new blanket cast on! I also love how you’re talking about the really rough time you’re having and then, in the next breath - “oh,but look at this beautiful yarn I have spun”. You’re the best. Sending the biggest hugs and well wishes for your whole family. I hope you recover soon xx

It’s all your fault that I am crocheting for the first time in over 30 years. Lol!!! I love the battenberg blanket. For the first time ever I have 3 projects going at one time. That’s all new to me. I used to just knit one project at a time. I’m even buying scrape yarn from etsy. Lol! I’ve just gone crazy. You projects are gorgeous! Love them all. ❤️

You and your husband are prescient about the winter. Brilliant to have bought the wood stove. Hope that the fire at the power plant is extinguished quickly. The Nitty Cardigan really showcases your knitting skill. I especially like the gathers. Just beautifully done.

I’m so sorry to hear about your country’s hardship and what they are putting you through. It sounds as if you are being proactive and that is a good thing...wood stove, firewood, food, blankets, flashlights, batteries, candles, water, all the wool you can knit with, and a good sense of humor will carry you through. Keeping you all in prayer through this season of life. You crack me up!!!! You are so funny and I love that you laugh at yourself!

Jana you are so funny, even when you're full of cold. When you brought out a hot water bottle as your "acquisition" and laughed about it, I was almost in tears. But I knew you were going to talk about making H/W bottle covers, and there are a lot of wonderful patterns for these on Ravelry. Your cardigan is so utterly beautiful - I've never seen raglans so beautifully done.

Paula, from ‘Stitching with Mrs. D’ had a hot water bottle named Uncle Simon. She often has him with her on cold winter days. We have a wonderful wood stove that heats our whole home, but I love tucking a HOT hot water bottle in my bed about twenty minutes before crawling in on a cold winter night. Such a simple easy treat. Maybe your kids would enjoy naming their hot water bottles. As always, such a pleasure to ‘visit’ and be dazzled by your talent. Get well soon.

No choice no problem. This was a favorite slogan ofMother’s. She was the generation of the 1930s and 1940s and much like you ,while her situation was beyond her control, she made the best of each day celebrating thru her sewing and handcrafts. We all have the same concerns in Texas. I hope the time you share with us blesses you as much as it does us. I have started a Serape, a Mexican blanket , started done in Irish wool and Rowan felted tweed held double. It will take a year at least. We’ll knit while these “Cowboys” try to figure things out.

When my kids were in grade school and we lived in Iowa, we had a wood stove to heat the house. My kids and I were alone some nights, the kids would tell me to feed the stove in the middle of the night so the blower would be on when they got up.
    Your pizza looked great!

Thanks for making me laugh! Lisa (SaratogaKnitting) of the Knitting by the Sea podcast talks about knitted hot water bottle covers in her recent episode (101). ua-cam.com/users/Saratogaknitting. She's making a bunch of them.... Hearing you talk about life there on the border of the aggressor is chilling. So much unnecessary hardship. Even here in the US, I feel constant unease - nothing is safe anymore. I'm grateful for people like you who share knitting, beauty, and good cheer to help us all get through.

I share your worries about the future and my nearest border is only with Canada! We also are preparing for winter. Someone is coming to check my wood stove chimney. Roof screen may be loose because a huge robin found its way inside earlier this summer. We were able to get it out if the stove, into a cardboard box, and safely released outside. I plod on knitting Ulmus, making the border now in three successive shades of green gradients that show off the leaf pattern. So fun to knit while you chat. Your video companionship is wonderful. I made a Ranunculus using just under three plates of Nutiden ( I had 35 grams left over). I held the yarn double and it made a light but warm sweater. I also knit a hot water bottle cover which was grafted at the end. It’s easy to put the hot water bottle into the cozy through the ribbed “turtleneck” if you roll up the bottle first and shimmy it into place.

As for chilly nights, my mom used to tell me that my grandmother would heat bricks on her wood stove, cover them with flannel and put them in the bottoms of the beds to help keep toes warm. Crazy how things seem to be going backwards at times. Hang in there. Early Happy Birthday!🎂🎉💕

When I was a kid, we would take big stones and heat them on the wood stove. At night we would wrap them in a blanket or heavy towel and put them in our bed to keep our feet warm. I think they keep warm longer than a heating bottle.

And on the personal level I feel that I´m "not allowed" to participate on electricity savings as much as I should if they are not making any power cuts here in the city center and other central areas ... I wish they come quickly to their senses and reconsider.😅

Your bobble sweater is lovely, and your bits and bobs blanket looks warm and squishy! I think the Noro yarn/mohair combo you showed will be perfect
I can only imagine how scary the future looks from where you live. The wood stove looks great! My mom has always had a wood stove In her house, for heat and some cooking. Nothing can compare with the cosy heat from wood! Total bonus that you can cook wood-fired pizza in it too! Mom has a large kettle that she fills in the morning with water and leaves on the back of the wood stove all day; it humidifies the air and there is always hot water for a cup of tea!
I hope you are soon done with the head cold and back on your feet. Take good care! Anne~in ~Canada🥰

Really enjoy your knit & chat segments! It's great to hear about how you are facing and defeating some of the challenges that the war is bringing so many in Europe. Love the colours in your hand spun yarn, holy cow, Gorgeous!! Why not use it in a sweater yoke or a the colourwork yarn in one of the Jenn Steingass designs? Like Hinterland, or others. So pretty.

Hi kooky girl, really enjoyed your projects, WIPs etc as usual. You made me laugh out loud several times in this episode so that was great!I’ve ordered Salt & Timber, can’t wait to get it. I just bought Knitted Socks from Finland and hope I’m up to the challenge of those patterns but it’s such a beautiful book. Sad to hear about your current worries regarding the coming cold weather and other goings on in your corner of the world. But admire your positivity 💜 I’m in Australia so we’re waiting for some warmer weather after a very cold winter (for us!) hope you’re feeling well again soon, wishing you kind thoughts, love and support.

Ps also have 2 stone hot water bottles. Put them on the far side of the stove and loosen the stopper a bit.leave all day and at bedtime tighten stopper again wrap in a little blanket and put in the middle of your bed to warm it up.

Wood heat is so cozy. Your beautiful test knit is amazing. And I love the hat. It is hard to find a good hat pattern so I stick to what I know works. I recently ordered a Rowan hat book that I thought I would gift but when it arrived they are all knit flat? What is that with Rowan? I had forgotten they do that. Too much trouble to return this but I don’t want to knit flat hats so I’m not going to gift it to someone else who is a new knitter. I might try one and it may be a donation to charity shop. I cannot turn a blind eye to the world. Our situation here in the US is unstable with political divisions… I am grateful to get news of the woman living with the firsthand reality. In the future I will continue to be grateful for your time. It is difficult to speak of possibilities I hope speaking lightens your stress level. You look like the wild child you should be. Lemon & peppermint tea with honey. If I could change the world… we would all knit scrappy blankets. I am Tsknitter on Ravelry… not very good at using ravelry. Getting better.

I’m sorry to hear about the situation in Europe.
When you began talking about knitting a hot water bottle cover I began to giggle because I envisioned the hot water bottle with a mini sweater with arms, turtleneck and ribbing at the bottom.
