It's because all these condo's were constructed so rapidly, most use the cheapest materials and construction techniques. They often require repairs after 5-10 years, so a 10 year old condo in toronto is considered old lol
I moved from UK to Canada and yeah I found that weird too! I was living in a Victorian house in London that was probably better quality then some condos I saw which were built like 10 years ago. Lol Just can't compare when it's a house Vs a condo.
Me and my gf were condo hunting about 4 months ago in Toronto. It's amazing how much the price drops and how the size of the condos go up the north you go on the subway line.
Ahh! This video was so well done! I am obsessed with apartment hunting videos and you guys did an amazing job! The Toronto housing market is wild right now. I actually just started renting a 1+1 in Dundas Square for $1700 a month. Before COVID, it rented for $2300 a month. It's definitely a good time to go apartment hunting hahaha. Although whoever is charging $10k for that is a bit... optimistic.
My best friend lives in dt Toronto and buys parking spots. They have cost her anywhere from $35-60k each (& she rents them out) Having two spots included with the unit is pretty good.
Something else about the older units vs the newer units is the full size appliances! The new units usually have the smaller versions of everything, which for people who are really into cooking or baking, can be a huge drawback. We moved from a newer building (2016) to an older one (2003) around the time this video was posted and the space and appliances mean we’d never go back! 2 bedroom 2 bathroom with a den and parking for $2500 right downtown with a sweet non obstructed view.
As a fellow Torontonian, it's really cool to see these different types of units that I'll probably never afford 🤣 I'm currently looking to move back downtown because the rents have gone down so much. I have found multiple 1+1 for $1700 or less. Great video! Your filming and editing is really nice. And the people criticizing this video are just weird. ☺️
Fun video! And very educational 🤓 We recently moved to Niagara from Toronto. We bought a home and are paying ~$1500 a month for our mortgage: 3 bedrooms, basement and big backyard. I work mostly from home and my husband goes to the office in Toronto a few time a week, so it works for us. I can’t imagine now paying that much for such small living spaces 😳 Like somebody said once: I love Toronto, but I don’t love it that much 😅
Some of these units I think I've seen on Zillow or something, they look familiar in my eyes. Rent and real estate cost is crazy here in Toronro. Thanks for the tour!
Great video! Would love to see more of this style mixed in with your current content. Regarding the Shangri-La private residences, I've noticed a few units going on sale since the start of the pandemic. So much appreciated for giving us a peek inside some of the units.
Really enjoyed this video! As someone currently living in Toronto and considering getting a larger place, it’s nice to see a tour of different condos from a wide range of prices.
So pretty much watching all of you guys vids in preparation for my move from South Africa to Canada🙋🏻♂️. This was my favorite video thus far :)! Awesome stuff
Loved seeing some of those crazy high rent apartments! I live in Queen West and it's crazy how much rent has gone down here in the last year... I'm thankful that I managed to snag a rent reduction, because it's definitely much more reasonable now and renters have a lot more power due to less competition for the units!

I use to thing it was weird seeing other people's stuff too until I moved from one apartment to another apartment (instead of moving out of my parents to an apartment). There's no way to totally clean out a place for viewing if the landlord wants to fill it up immediately. You generally expect people to make it presentable (think of when people are showing their house) but not everyone has the same standards lol.
Hahaha very true! This place threw me off because there was a thick layer of dust everywhere - it really felt like no one had been home in a while (or at least hadn’t been using their living spaces!). But a really nice spot 😊
@@stephandden It is because many people living downtown had to fly home in the middle of a pandemic and had to leave their condo quickly. Honestly, that is amazing for 1700 in Toronto, especially west Toronto. my family rents a 2 bedroom 1 bath for 1500 just because it's in St James Town and we managed to get the owner to keep the lease the previous renters had. also, cuz when we moved the building was falling apart until the new management took over, I'm nervous that my block is getting gentrified tho, they might want to raise the prices soon and not want to renew older contracts 😬
Those condos are very small. I got a 3 bedroom house in the Caribbean that's way bigger and I only pay land rent once a year. The land rent is $30 Canadian dollars a year.
Thanks for doing these apartment tours based on budgets. I'm from London, Ontario just a hop, skip and jump from Tdot and am looking to move because I am becoming a UA-camr myself and feel Toronto will help me get more comfortable vlogging in public due to the size and ability to blend in plus knowing there are more UA-camrs there. $1k? Doesn’t exist. Not downtown and not anywhere you would want to live. Prices are dropping but not sure they’ll reach the $1k range. Maybe a filthy basement bachelor. You can maybe get a room for $1k.

Great video guys. It would be cool to see a video showing a rental unit compared to a unit that is for sale where the rent and the mortgage are similar so we can see some of the advantages and disadvantages of buying vs renting firsthand.
Buying will come with a very high condo fee. Better to live cheap for a few years and buy a house. I owned a condo a few years ago, and the condo fees were more than the mortgage and increase every year.

Those prices are expensive as much as Vancouver. I think personally I’d rather buy a condo/house for that price in rent. The $10k month not worth it. That’s a mortgage payment on a house. That’s just me. Thanks 😊 for sharing. Definitely gives a perspective on housing costs in Toronto.
Just you know if your condo was first occupied after 2018, November. Your landlord can increase the price as much as they want. So don’t be fooled by these new condos. Of course the price is good now since no one works in downtown, (landlords are desperate right now) but Once pandemic ends, the prices will go up and so will your rent. That is why I found myself a condo that was first occupied before 2018. Do your own research.
I would have to question how many people have the budget to rent $10k at downtown Toronto. I know a lot of rich foreign students but they are also pragmatic when it comes to spending money. Most will rather buy a place and anyway they drive so location don't have to be great.
It’s probably a small group - we were thinking maybe someone who’s using it as their second home / for when they’re visiting the city (ie. someone with a lot of money) 😊
If you were to look on the MLS website, you’d see these buildings are defined as ‘Waterfront Communities’ - you were close though, it is bordering the Fashion District 😊
These prices are outrageous. The properties shown in the video are not even that cool - just shoe boxes with little to none privacy; the views for properties below the 3K are just yuk. So sad the price to value ratio in Toronto is absolutely terrible (not Hong Kong level terrible, but still pretty bad).
@@stephandden Yep, and positive changes are nowhere in sight. Great job with the video though! 👏 I think you're scratching the right itch with this type of content, it would be especially great once you would get a chance (at a later date) to compare properties in different neighborhoods, cities, and even countries.

You would have to be a fool to spend $6,000 a month for an apartment! You would be better off BUYING a unit and putting the money towards a mortgage
It depends on your income and time, for sure! We personally would agree though!
Yes but for $1700 unit its better to rent it, if you buy it you would have to spend minimum of $3100 a month.
If you spend more 2000 rent better to buy and is yours.

Of course the price is good now since no one works in downtown, (landlords are desperate right now) but Once pandemic ends, the prices will go up and so will your rent. That is why I found myself a condo that was first occupied before 2018. Do your own research.

Enjoyed this video
Thank you! ✨
Can someone tell me what people do to pay for these amazingly high prices
Hahaha yes it is crazy high for rent! 👀
Better jobs. More career opportunities. Better salaries. Can quickly cover the difference.
Waterfront area is by the waterfront. King and Spadina in the fashion district. Would be good to tighten up the neighbour hood definitions a bit
The prices are definitely high in Toronto!
@@stephandden Yep, and positive changes are nowhere in sight.
Great job with the video though! 👏
I think you're scratching the right itch with this type of content, it would be especially great once you would get a chance (at a later date) to compare properties in different neighborhoods, cities, and even countries.
Thank you! 😊
This was awesome! I like these types of videos where you both venture out and review stuff. Dope 🙏🏾
Thank you!! 😊
Can you tour the tip top building ? Or some other really interesting units? Can you find a two story condo as well to tour?
We’ll definitely try and do more with different styles of units! 😊
Cheapest one is the most reasonable ngl

These prices are so low...wow, COVID really changed the landscape!
It really did - a pretty substantial drop for the lower-priced units, especially!
