I too had a broken brain, and I went on to get 3 college degrees at the top 15% of my class! I'm hearing impaired to from nearly 6 years of ear infection that ate my brain and I had foul smelling drainage unto I turned 18 and could see a brain surgeon to fix it. Doctors don't know how I survived! I now have my own therapy and hypnosis and coaching practice! I've been married almost 45 years! I was told an EEG proved I was also retarded! The hardest part of change work is believing in yourself! You CAN do it!

    Dear Jim,
Your advice to use a pointer while you read is incredible. I have never read (and understood content) that fast in my entire life.
I'm a law student. I would spend up to two hours reading a 10-15 page case. I thought I was born slow and would stay slow. The freedom you've given me by sharing this is beyond words.
Thank you. A million times, thank you.

The other tips are great though - deff being present in the moment helps you to remember much more. If you're really paying attention, it sinks in, whether it's a conversation or where something is.

Hi Mel and Jim, thanks so much for these tips and the talk on 'how we learn'. I'm a lefty and have tried reading using my left pointing finger and didn't get any improvement in the speed, exact same number of pages in one minute...but what's interesting is that I've tried again but this time using my right hand pointer finger and got that 25%increase in the reading speed that you mention in the podcast...is this because it's easier to drag your right hand left to right than it is pushing your left one in the same direction? I just thought it could add an interesting detail to this conversation around reading techniques..thank you again! Miriam from Italy
