Its pretty common for newer cars to boost the voltage up to 15v occasionally as part of their smart charging strategy, I believe that the scanner said the desired voltage was about right.
Hi Ivan, big shout out and Kudos to UA-cam members for the videos of their findings helping you sort this problem out quicker, we know you would have found it in the end, but it makes everyones day when we all help each other. Many many thanks from UK.
Totally agree with the U-TUBE videos; being a mechanic from the now "dinosaur" days, getting to replace the cabin air filter on my 2006 Subaru Outback would have been VERY lengthy if not for someone posting a video(very few nuts, but lots of "snap-in" fasteners that aren't readily visible)

My go to on a situation like this is to split an old radiator hose and use a foot or two piece of hose to slip all this harness in and keep it shielded over brackets like this and bending around corners, etc.. and Then I'll tape that shut. I've never had to go back on a repair like that again. Being shielded inside a thick rubber hose tends to keep wires safe for the life of the car-- even around hot exhaust. I make sure you tape it up well so it doesn't let water in.
I ran into the same “zoning” issue in My agricultural area. I built My garage just for “ personal “ use. The corruption begins at the lowest level and escalates from there. Just look at Our Dubois city manager debacle. It is nice that many share this automotive stuff and help others. Thanks for sharing Ivan. 👍👍🇺🇸
When I was a kid (in the seventies) and driving junk cars, I had to reinvent the wheel every time there was a problem. I obviously did not have the information that is now available on the internet. Needless to say, I learned a lot on my own.
Thanks to the people that had the same problem putting it in Google for that one. Thanks to Ivan for thinking of that resource and the great repair work. Overall......Great one Ivan.

Great job Ivan!👍 I appreciate that you gave credit to the two UA-camrs that shared their experiences that helped point you in the right direction! Now more people will benefit from this information.
The collective knowledge of the internet saved time in chasing down the location of the short. Excellent proof of that theory by simulating the conditions of the customer complaint!
Great diagnostic, Ivan! Information sharing is fundamental to shorten diagnostic times - no point to re-invent the wheel, each time. You are surely doing your part on this.
That same location on the 4.6 & 5.4 had a problem where when the passenger side motor mount would wear out and cause the engine to drop and pinch the crank senser wires between the a/c compressor and frame. Its a super intermittent stalling and crank, no start problem that will drive you and the customer crazy. If you aren't aware, you might want to note it.
Since you already have a business license to do car repairs, and you are very close to neighbors, you should be able to get a zoning variance to enlarge your garage area. If you are not adding more impervious area (asphalt or concrete parking) you should be okay to ask for a zoning variance. It would help if you get your nearest neighbors to provide a letter or sign the variance application saying that they do not have an issue with what you want to do.
My 1994 F150 has "Blind Spot Detection Modules". But we always called them "Mirrors" Mine has an aftermarket brake controller too. Its called "Coffee". It also has a 5 speed manual, mellinial anti-theft device. Oh, and it was paid off in 1999, and still runs perfect.
Hi Ivan, I found your site a number of weeks ago by accident -(UA-cam Algorithm). In my dim and distant past I trained as an auto electrician in the british army working on Armoured vehicles and trucks ( Bedfords) and Land Rovers. In comparison to the stuff on the market to day the electrics are very simple - no CAN bus, dynamos, mechanical regulators etc. I still sort out my own vehicles where I can but obviously they are not that simple. I have learned so much from you - thank you for the detailed diagnosis and showing your methods. I like to try and guess what you are going to find. In this case I though it could be the generator rectifier bridge partially short cct. What I learned is that generating system are not as simple as they used to be, in fact I believe that vehicles are over complicated. Keep up the great work and best wishes from the UK.
Lots of great info on the tube and the internet, but there is also a lot of misinformation so you have to always have a bit of caution. I like working out of a small shop, its much easier to keep organized and clean. Went from a large shop 10,000 square feet to a small two car in retirement and love it.

Thanks to all of you in solving the problem. First you for isolating the problem and then the people that posted the problem on the web. Now you have a Happy customer. Ford screwed up putting the harness there.
Yes , there's less overheads involved running a workshop that size by yourself. The employer who I worked for 20 years ago converted his old dairy shed into a workshop where he could rewind & overhaul electric motors which worked out well because he was working for himself. He's was an electrical fitter/mechanic by trade whose now retired & he was making more money out of doing that & repairing commercial laundry equipment than he was out of running a dairy farm. The farmers were only making $0.02 AUD per litre out of the milk !
Ivan, great work! Also living in PA, I was able to build a "shop" as an Agricultural Accessory building (i.e., building used to store feed, ground maintenance equipment, etc.). Just have to sign a waiver by the Twp. that states you have no intention of making it livable space, and you should be good!
Nice job! I have to admit early on I was questioning if the problem happened when "sitting in the rain" or "driving in the rain". Big difference in what gets wet.
Great job man! I believe the newer F250's have a similar issue where these wires that run below the crank inside of a wiring troft, end up with the green crusties also.
Great job picking up those subtle clues by the owner and yourself Ivan. I was thinking loom or module under the truck somewhere. Someone has been there before, those blue bellows like coolant pipes are not OEM.
When a problem is that intermitent, I usually just advise the customer that we need to wash the vehicle with gasoline and dry it down with matches before going further in the diag process. Nice find sir!

According to Wikipedia, Pennsylvania Furnace is located in Centre County and in Huntingdon County and is 9.7 miles Southwest of State College. Great video again Ivan - reminds me of of a Mitsu Shogun with a speedometer fault, had checked sender unit & wiring all seemed OK in plastic conduit. Turned out to be a broken wire inside the perfect conduit where it crossed over the chassis & was properly secured by a P clip, the clip was too tight around the loom & this light wire in with heavier wires gave up. It's a known fault on them but as you say it's nice to know you're hunting in the right direction when you start ripping.
Interesting fix. Thanks for the video. I once had an alternator that was not charging. I pulled on all wires going to the alternator and one came apart. The wire was broken inside the insulation. No internet in those days so no sharing😁

Great find, well done. Around about 25:13 does it show that the cooler lines had been running on the top of the other cable conduit running across the front of the car (foreground of video)? Is there potentially some wire chaffing inside there as well?

Good detective work. I'm just wondering, since the generator command still fluctuates that rapidly, if you confirmed continuity of the entire wire after repair.
Great diagnosis and very helpful for those who have newer Ford F-150s (not me). Your zoning situation is ridiculous. I recently built a simple porch (no plumbing, one light). It required SIX inspections and ended up vastly overbuilt. I agree with others. Tell them you want to build a barn or expand your current 'personal' garage. Your wife has horses doesnt she?
An interesting observation, pre repair, charge voltage 15.1V. Post repair 14.4. The 15.1V was a big red flag, talk about toasting the battery. :)

Great job Ivan, you researched the issue so you did not have to go down the rabbit hole. Like you said "the power of the internet". Now you can flush that toilet . Lolol
Power of info sharing is awsum...its saves ton of time...cheers ivan
Great video, Ivan. You're an awesome technician. I like your logical troubleshooting skills.youre a young Bernie Thompson. Thanks for your videos.
Good video IVAN.The most important thing you showed us is not to be a smart ass and think I GOT THIS!!!. And you ,well we consider you at the top of your field.ARE humble enough to show us HEY let's research this a bit.And i mean beyond the wiring diagram.
Showing us WHY you are a great example of using your head to save both yourself and the customer money.Great information source for everyone.thanks Ivan
Yes there is no shame in doing some research to cut down on diagnostics time😁👌
Great diagnosis! Thanks for the videos.
Good detective work. I'm just wondering, since the generator command still fluctuates that rapidly, if you confirmed continuity of the entire wire after repair.
It's just reported computer data... Works as designed 👍
Thanks for the mention. Glad it helped!
