    I think I am only up to #8, But I created my first complex part and have it in the 3D printer right now Hahah great content very helpful.

    Another informative video. I have just started to work with FreeCAD and I have lots to learn and remember. I have used Sketchup for a few years, still do for wood working projects. Could you make a video about making a keyhole opening, the kind they have on the back of some hanging objects or boxes that mount to a wall and such.

    Intense video for me, once I opened the "draft" workbench the original grid attached to the pad, however once I went back into "part design" the grid never refresh and or went away, and appeared to remain in a ghost like condition on the same plane, independent of how I would rotate my work, very annoying and confusing. On a similar note, my combo view use to be located on the very upper left hand corner, but now if I try to move the combo view box up to high it causes my main screen to reduce in size and then at the same time my combo view maximizes across the entire scree width... Ugh, Thanks Gary p.s. I am now a Patreon!

      Hey Gary, that grid is a bit annoying once it's on there it's a bit of a job to get rid of it. The combo box should be manageable, I can't quite visualize what is happening to yours. Thanks do joining our patreon

    i did something similar not too long ago. although using a spreadsheet to input numbers, i only used one body. i did not need to convert shapestring to a sketch. i used a shapebinder on the shapestring which i was then able to pocket or pad. I'm still learning and not sure if it a right way to do it, but it is still working great;)

      Hi Craig, there is usually more than one way to do most things in FreeCAD, as I usually say, this is the way I do it but, you may find a way that you prefer.

    Brilliant course, very informative. Just a silly question re multiple bodies, when exporting do you export individual bodies or the part?

    I don't know if this is a version thing (now at 0.21), but is there a reason you didn't use the shape binder on the sketch for the original pad, not the face?

      I am not sure what version I was using in that video but may well have been the reason

    If the devs ever fix the topology naming problem, half your videos will become obsolete! But I guess we would all still welcome the fix. I wonder if the devs consider a bug or a feature though? Us novices see it as a problem, but maybe there's some reasonable reason it works the way it does? If so, they might want to make it an option users can switch, like an easy mode or the like.

    • @Adventuresincreation
      @Adventuresincreation  3 роки тому +1

      I would happily remake the vids using faces and features to create the parts. It seems like an obvious think to avoid in the code, I am not sure of the history behind it but I know it can be addressed.

    Great video and for the life of me, yes most likely a noob, I can't find where I saw the option to rename faces....err..

    Thanks
    I believe you could also use clone and copy functions on the original body and then just change the shape string in the copy/clone.

      Thanks Paul, I agree however, I wanted to demonstrate the use of a shape binder specifically.

    So, could you avoid the TPN issue in this instance by using a master sketch for the back plate and using it for each pad via some sort of linking the sketch to each body? CAD is very new to me, still trying to wrap my head around a lot of the terms and tools in freecad. I remember seeing a link or bi-directional link tool but not sure exactly how it is used.

    • @Adventuresincreation
      @Adventuresincreation  Рік тому

      The topological naming issue is more about faces changing their references, if you avoid using faces as the way to locate sketches you should be OK.

    • @crossthreadaeroindustries8554
      @crossthreadaeroindustries8554 Рік тому

      @@Adventuresincreation Is there a cure for Topo Naming Issue? Why does the software rename faces. I know this is a huge issue, but is it something the software would "just" need to be stripped down and rebuilt without the Issue? Right now we all have to strip our design back to make certain changes and rebuild the tree. Is this a thing only in FreeCAD or does, say, Fusion 360 have the same problem?

    • @Adventuresincreation
      @Adventuresincreation  Рік тому

      @@crossthreadaeroindustries8554 yes there is, they are working on it but it's not a quick fix.

    I'm a beginner following your videos in a numerical order. I find them inconsistent. Here you are speaking about font tutorial, but no link is provided. Moreover, drafts were only briefly mentioned in the video #9 and I find them very confusing. So, would be nice to have an intro like "You will need a knowledge of drafts and blah-blah to understand this tutorial. You can find those lessons here". Thanks.

    Seems like I may becoming a regular PIA... I am curious, is there any way to get a cross-reference of where things from a spreadsheet are used? I want to split an item on a spreadsheet into several variables, but it would be very useful to know where they are all used. Maybe this is part and parcel with the topological naming problems...

    • @Adventuresincreation
      @Adventuresincreation  3 роки тому +1

      You could include a 3rd column in the spreadsheet that accomplishes this.

    • @rodneysmith1750
      @rodneysmith1750 3 роки тому

      @@Adventuresincreation I had envisioned something more like a cross-reference from an old-style computer program that would be created at a snapshot time rather than a manual process. This would only be a problem where there are several bodies and many sketches sharing a single spreadsheet.
      Thank you again for all your help and wonderful example videos!

    (when I get home) need to check if renaming the faces will fix this bug and if so check to see if a macro can be made to rename all faces with name of the 'temp' value name. be back in 12 hours..can you do it before I get home? :)

    For some reason, my draft plane is not the XY plane and I can't seem to figure out how to change the draft plane. So, my "2" just goes through the pad instead of sitting on it. I've followed through several times but always get the same results.

    • @Adventuresincreation

      When you pick the plane to start the sketch are you picking the X-Y plane? Try picking the representation of the plane you want instead of just X-Y

      I had the same problem. I deleted the shape string and made sure the part was face on to the plane before selecting the draft function.
      that cured the issue for me. hope that helps anyone in the future.
