I like that they canonized Probotector
They did that back in 2007 with Contra 4
Was already canon in Contra 4
It's also noted that the remake is separate from the main continuity, as stated in WayForward's Twitter reply.

Probotector was the EU version of Contra Hardcorps for the Genesis.
I love that they took the robot characters from the censored Australian version and fleshed them out into being part of the team.

@@redcrimson1028 Like turn it into another 3rd person cover shooter? Nah, Contra has always been best as a side scrolling shoot em up. And the worst games of the franchise are when they tried to get away from those.
@thetramp123 that's because incompetent devs made those 3d one's lol. Go back and look at the companies that made those games and you'll see what I mean. I didn't say a cover shooter doen to the T like gears, but just a good 3rd person shooter like gears. Then again, if they did make it a cover shooter so what? It mite be for the better. The new contra game coming to the switch has enemies taking cover.
@@redcrimson1028 I just played the demo man (albeit briefly for about 15 minutes). Just from that taste alone, I can say it is enjoyable. Classic 2D Contra, HOWEVER there is a lot of new stuff to look forward to.
New abilities, story and arcade mode, HP bar options?! (yeah that's there too) in addition to difficulty selection. And while I admittedly went into this thinking, oh, this will be a rehash of the original Contra but with more characters, I certainly don't feel that way now.
These guys know what they're doing. While I do critique the art style and the character movement speed, these are personal nitpicks.
I look forward to playing more when I get the chance. I recommend you try the demo for yourself. I'm definitely gonna pick this one up.

Played the demo. This is a true Contra game!
The demo was cool. I hope the 2nd level was just skipped in the demo. It goes from the first level to the waterfall, which is the third level.
The Fact that you can play as Probotector is the Main Reason for me to buy this! 😍

Wild seeing a classic game series like this with 3D graphics, idk if this is the first time they’ve done it but I love the old NES classics so I’m definitely interested in this one, I hope it’s good!
Contra Shattered Soldier on PS2 is 2.5D. It's my favorite game in the entire series. PLAY IT NOW!
If the demo is anything to go by, the PS2 Contra games are light years better than this.

Shattered Soldier truly deserves a rerelease. It was mind-blowing.

I remember paying $59.99 for Contra 3 new as well, and that game is like 20 minutes long tops. That was MSRP for most SNES games.

I played the Steam demo last night, it's good but the music doesn't rock like the old ones. But the stages are significantly longer. Probably getting it for XBox, but curious if it runs well on Switch.
Looks sensational! Hope they optimize the performance on Switch, though. The demo has a very inconsistent framerate and even at 30 fps it struggles a lot...
Yeah I tryed the demo it has lots of lag I just wished the used fully 2d pixel graphics like contra 4 and not a a 2d 3d game if only the add a way to play the game in 2d pixel in the option

Loved the demo, not through it yet as struggling a bit but it captures the old school arcade experience excellently with some great visuals
At least it doesn't stray from its side scrolling run-and-gun platforming roots. I bet it even has top-down and corridor crawling levels.
Billy Rizer = young Schwarzenegger ( Commando) , Lance Bean = young Stallone ( Rambo). 80s action heroes. As an early 80s born and NES player, I say bring it on!

The 3D era (starting around N64 when every franchise needed a 3D or "64" version) side-tracked a lot of IPs including Contra, and it's good when devs remembered why we enjoyed them. 👍

So hype for this game! Does every character other than Bill Rizer and Lance Bean have their own loadouts/special abilities? Trying to understand why the other characters were doing such unique attacks and maneuvering.
I feel most people who played ckntra and didnt read the manual didn't realize what the story was really about and this game could do a great job freshining up thr story since i guess this is a sort of retelling of thr story in a way? In that case I hope they keep the ominous secret message from red falcon once you beat the game. Hopefully this spawns retellings of contra 1-3 and hard Corps
Judging by the opening cutscene, the plot will have several references to Shattered Soldier, at the very least!

As a big fan of 2D action platformer games, I already like Contra and that animation looks so amazing. Island Warrior Ariana will be my the most playful character in Contra, she's so beautiful I love her! 😍❤

This take on Contra should have been called, "Contra: Steve Blum saves the Universe"!
I wasn´t expecting much when I bought it. But when I played I realized how awesome it is. The graphics looks a little cartoonish but everything else was perfect. It´s a very challenging game wich I liked it.
If you make an DLC please add Jaguar from neo contra.
The demo is badass. Don't know about 40 bucks. Depends how long the game is.

Cybernetic soldier:Probotector....I see what you did there...
Since the main 2 male characters were copies of Arnold and Sly, the other 2 female characters had to be copies of Sarah Connor and Ellen Ripley.
Lucia is most likely a nod to the Lucia robot that appears alongside Bill in Shattered Soldier and both Lucias are probably related in some way. Ariana is a nice addition to the roster and I'm thinking she's also related to the expanded storyline featured in Shattered Soldier.

I hope this is good. I’m not a fan of the art style they picked but If it plays like old contra I’ll at least be happy. I am a bit skeptical but I’ll keep my fingers crossed. I don’t know why they can’t port Contra 4 from the DS or Contra Rebirth from the Wii. Those are great games that deserved to be brought back and played
Yea everything these days is like early unity games graphics, I would like to see it full 2d integrated like the oldschool where it doesnt look like a lot of separate images moving on a background and more like a coherent image. If that makes sense
