Out of the 4 of us, I was the only one unable to make it out on time to catch my limit of 6 males.
The buck full moon provided strong tides that female Dungeness crab use to molt near shore. Female Dungeness crabs attract the males through pheromones in the female’s crab urine.

    Where did you catch them?

      Ocean Park/Long Beach, Washington!
This is near the public access place that has a couple crab holes in front of it.

How can you tell a female from a male

Por la parte de abajo, el de la hembra es más grande y redondo en un extremo y el del macho es delgado

I would tell myself that males have thin abdomen flaps while females have rounder ones to carry eggs. Now I can almost tell if they are male just by the size of the claws or how they act.

      Definitely fun and scary!
Doesn't help that I was attacked by a fish and crab in knee deep water.

Why do you need them? They have almost no meat.

@@journeywithchongI thought about using dead crabs that you find on the shore as fertilizer. Is this legal in the US?

      @@wkcw1great question! ❤
I would love to start using the hundreds of crab molts or dead crabs I find as fertilizer now that you mention it. I might have to get back to you on this after I contact my local wildlife department.
