I've been pretty happy with FMS. I've been collecting 1100mm warbirds from all the different brands and the ones that come from FMS have much better foam. Not sure if they changed but the ESC's in the last 2 planes have signal wire for thrust reverse which they don't advertise. The Rafale and 1700mm pa-18 monster.
Nice plane , can see what you mean about the landings , could get tricky. That silhouette in the air is unmistakable. Nicely flown , very scale . Great video Chris thanks for sharing.
A worthy tribute indeed my friend, nice review of an old standard! These larger scale FMS warbirds really set the bar for the hobby in the 1.4 to 1.5 meter and bigger range back in the day, and they are still going strong some years later. I can't think of one in the series that doesn't fly well, and on a simple 4 cell battery no less! Great job Chris!
Last year I picked up a brand new never flown Staufenbiel (pre FMS version) Red Bull Corsair. I don't think they ever changed a thing with these, They do fly beautifully but for a 4s plane are really slow seeming. A gloss coat of Polycrylic really makes these planes stand out.
My first rc plane was a flitetest f4u Corsair. That's the plane that made me pull the trigger to get into rc flight. Nobody told me how difficult it would be to build, nor how NOT beginner friendly it was. After crashing it a few times and rebuilding it with extra weight in the front it flew amazing. It's still my favorite plane I've ever flown. I unfortunately had to retire it last year after I forgot to check my cg, and was way to tail heavy...
I started with a UMX Radian. Thought I knew how to fly so I built a Flite a Test Duster. It was wild and squirrelly. Built a Storch and learned how to really fly. Now I have a few Corsairs and they’re awesome!
Time stamp 5:02 to 5:08. Look at the flex in that plane! The wing and even the fuselage flexing like an arrow. Small cameras are cool for stuff like that.
That was incredible....I almost bought a plastic model of this and wonder why it had a 4 prop and not a 3.... I want to learn to fly man but have never done it. Used to run nitro 4x4 buggies and trucks...but never planes. Thinking about the horizon apprentice model rtf.
I have been experimenting with that a little bit and am planning on introducing something when I’m happy with the result. That said, I’ve been focusing all efforts on a new much more feature rich controller which has been in the works for a while and is finally getting pretty close.
Have you, or anybody else ever put little red lights, in the guns that are in the wings so it would make it look like you were shooting the guns in the wings?
@@Thercgeek Very welcome. I really like flying this plane but she is a bit underpowered. Have seen it flown with a 5s battery and it wakes it up a bit. Would it be better to go with that set up or upgrade the motor to a 6s motor?
Nice review. You didn't seem overly impressed but you get to fly so many nice planes. You didn't mention anything about the reflex system. I thought the pain tscheme was a little flat. What do you think? I thought the air speeds were very close to scale especially on the landings. It doesn't take much imagination of seeing you on the deck of the carrier and videoing that short final with a 16 mm camera. It just looks right. Speaking of landing speeds if you were to chose, what model you have flown seems to get it right?
Great video Chris. Nice flying and review of this Corsair. FMS is just about the best foam rc model company there is IMO. I have their 800mm F4U. I'll go bigger one of these days :). AirHammer out!!
In many respects its a better plane than its bigger brother 1700mm version but to not have a retractable tail wheel is deal breaker for me. The size of this plane should easily accommodate that but maybe it was a cost consideration?
Are they peel and sticks? You may have to glue them back down. You can use some white glue under there and then use water and some paper towels to clean up the excess.
Thank you for an excellent review. The lights are very visible. Nice landings - very scale. It would lose some cool factor but maybe performance could be enhanced by using a two blade prop. This plane uses a 14x8 4 blade. Any idea what size a replacement 2 blade would need to be ? - Larry
I have the V1 with the Olathe livery that I have some damage when the esc and motor gave out. I had that plane 10 years or more so I got my money out of it. I thought about fixing it but I think I might just get the new version.
Always love the videos. I'm thinking of purchasing the FMS F4U Corsair. Are there any pitfalls in setting up the models, also it's too large for my car would it be possible to assemble the model at the flying field without too much trouble. Thanks (UK)
If I remember right, it’s a little bit of a pain to take apart only because of the servo connections. That being said, it could be simplified by using some tbolt multi connectors like I used on the big eflite t28.
@@Thercgeek I just spent 4hs trying to set this up. i have not flown it yet, but all I can say it better impressed me, my 1st FMS plane , could be sticking with Eflite. The wiring was a nightmare along with the instructions. The ESC wouldnt fit properly had to remove cowling & motor to reroute wires so ESC could be mounted properly. Definitely not an accurate example of a PNP
Thanks for the Video. Any reason you chose FMS rather than Eflite apart from the extra 200m wingspan? Thanks ,,,, also does it has some tech like ASX3 ?
You talking the old Cox 049, or just fuel powered airplanes in general? Glow has lost quite a bit of popularity with the advent of electric. Electric ends up being generally simpler.
Take 4-blade off, install 2-blade for flying, why risk 4-blade due to prop strike. Can't tell how many blades when spinning fast. Little more info on flaps, etc. but nice historical info.
@The RC Geek nice. My road is crowned and sometimes hard to deal with when P factor is involved. Hard enough keeping Tail draggers straight especially when a cross wind is in the mix.

nice flight and vid ! I was lucky enough to meet 'Pappy Boyington' at a local Air Show many years ago...have a great week...

Nice review as always Chris
I have both the Corsair and P47 1400mm series. FMS do a great job. 👍
Nice 👍

We done Chris, i kit bashed mine into a F4U -5N. just carved the radome from a spare fuel tank. And added 20mm cannons.😎
Awesome! I love the looks of the -5

It's probably the wing fighting flap-induced drag.
Nice review! This is the next warbird on my list. I have a bunch of 4s 3200 batteries that most of my warbirds fly on. Love the lights too.
Awesome!
That slow roll is so awesome. Great scale video. Thanks.
Thank you!

The apprentice is a really good trainer to start with.
Please create an afterburner with some blue lights along with the orange...it would really look cool and I'm confident that it would sell$$$

Love the Corsair. Nice landings. Now to customise it with folding wings.
That would be cool!
so cool to see this thing up close!
This is awesome. I love the camera angles makes it look so real!
Thank you!

Thanks! 👍

It really is a nice scale flyer, but I personally would prefer a touch more power from it. I also wonder how it might compare to the 1700mm.
On the plane

Thanks man!
Nice! Flown clean! 👍 Something is flapping under the left wing. And the chassis seems to be sprung a little hard.
Yeah, it’s the wire cover. I didn’t notice it until I saw it in the onboard video too, haha
@@Thercgeek the same thing happened with mine, no biggie. Nicely flown!👍👍👍
Nice review of a nice airplane. What camera are you using that’s mounted to the plane? The picture is really clear!
Thanks! It’s just a runcam that I taped onto the model.
In many respects its a better plane than its bigger brother 1700mm version but to not have a retractable tail wheel is deal breaker for me. The size of this plane should easily accommodate that but maybe it was a cost consideration?
I definitely hear you. It’s big enough for it, but was probably fixed to keep costs down if I had to guess.
What's best for reapplying decals that have come off and flapping around?

I’d say maybe a 14x10 or 15x8 2blade. Probably pick up a good bit of performance.
Beautiful plane, my favorite warbird!
I have 4 lol

I'm waiting for it to come out in the Grey Olathe version, hope they will
@@dalekelley3003 That's what my V1 livery is. Not sure why FMS stopped doing that livery I really like it.

The additional size is nice, though I think I’d probably go for the 1600 ultimately. I haven’t flown the eflite, but I’m sure it flies fantastically.
Thank you. Love you r channel. I am thinking of the flight line 1600mm
Hi from the UK mate. I have the Eflite 1.2 Trojan and P39. Which do you think is the better buy, the Fms 1.4 or Eflite 1.2 Corsair
In all honesty, I have not flown the 1.2m Corsair, so I can’t say which flies better. The 1.4 has a few extra features compared to the 1.2.
What happened to the cox fuel powered engines from back in my day
You talking the old Cox 049, or just fuel powered airplanes in general? Glow has lost quite a bit of popularity with the advent of electric. Electric ends up being generally simpler.
I was just gonna email you to ask if you knew of any worthy Corsairs for my son!!
This is a pretty nice one
Hi Chris, did FMS ever get around to putting working struts on the mains?….
They are wire struts with scale covers on them I believe.
@@Thercgeek So the answer is no…….that’s too bad ….it would be nice if they would put something that actually has some give to it…..👎
A simple tire swap to some robart takes care of that which work better than typically too stiff shock gear.
What cameras were you using on the plane?
They are runcam2’s
What cam are you using to record the plane
I’m using runcam2’s for the onboard stuff.

F4U too !! 👍
Haha
Beautiful plane. How is the p factor on take off ?
I didn’t find it bad at all. Very easy to manage.
@The RC Geek nice. My road is crowned and sometimes hard to deal with when P factor is involved. Hard enough keeping Tail draggers straight especially when a cross wind is in the mix.
Looks great
the tail wheel is not retracted?
It does not retract on the 1400mm unfortunately.
Very nice 👍🙂😎
Nice
Where did u get your rc at
There’s a link in the description 😉
All up weight? Cheers.
You know, I haven’t actually weighed it. Doesn’t fly heavy to me.
The speed is not that important…I much prefer a more scale flying speed. That looks great.
That’s a fair statement. It does fly quite scale with the 4blade prop.
Almost perfect except that stuck open tail wheel! How come Banana hobby could get it done and these guys can't?
I get that. Their larger 1700mm Corsair has the retractable tail wheel.
@@Thercgeek I get it and it's beautiful. However, I would be nice to have a something between a 1200mm to 1400mm with tail retracts.
I definitely understand.
Cost a grundle of money also!
It’s jus to small to be worth 400+ to me. Wish I could but just to much for not enough plane.
I understand. It’s a bit more expensive, but there’s always the 1700mm version. It has a few nicer features too.
