Can you say anything about VAT registration. I am currently trying to figure our whether I need to be VAT registered to sell into Europe and I cannot find any answers. :(
Quick question, I am creating my website but haven’t launched yet. I make handmade dresses in the UK, and majority of my customers are US, UK and Europe. When adding products to your store, it has a checkbox “charge tax on product”. What does that mean? I dont earn enough to sign up for VAT, and do my income tax through self assessment. Im so confused
With the EU you do need to charge tax (honestly this is SUPER confusing and I myself stopped sending to the EU because of it) I recommend doing some research yourself on this, I know Shopify have added a new section for dealing with tax charges for shipping, have a research ❤️
Thank you for your video! ♥️ It was very helpful and easy to understand. I think I will go with your advice and start with UK only shipping then will see how it goes. I'm starting this Friday 15/10 so every useful info is priceless, your channel helps me a lot with getting ready to start 😊
This is a great video, thank you. A quick question:- When you receive an order from America how do you deal with the DDP tax cost. Is it taken care of with Royal Mail click and Drop?
When I print my label it has the label and the custom declaration ect all on one page. How do I separate these? Royal Mail won’t tell me on the phone and it took an hour each time to ring them 😭
Hasn’t happened when sending to the USA, it may apply for certain countries you can check this but your customer would have to pay not you (if it’s smaller parcels)
I also noticed one of the Royal Mail recommendations are not Shopify integrated so that just adds to the arghhhhhhhhh. I also had to apply to the LUCID recycling program for items to Germany so it’s another thing to flipping add.
This is super useful, thank you. Do you find that most of your international sales come from the US rather than Europe? I'm selling on etsy and the is a huge market there.
Hi do I still need a EORI NUMBER even if I have just started and not a registered business? Also do I tick sales of goods or gift and do would I use hs tariff?
Did you resolve the IOSS situation. Also is the only way to deal with taxes and VAT for international shipping to use a shipping company, ie not through RM? I notice that Shopify still don't have a system like Etsy which deals with all of this for you.
Hi @Uk Curly girl . Great video thank you so much for the information . I am a bit confused with EORI number . There is no official trading business yet and we are planning to bring in a small quantity to share with friends and family to review quality . Is Deliveries duties paid sufficient when supplier is shipping here to UK or is there a still need for EORI even without a trading business? Thanks
Check the gov website but from my experience it is for business and whoever is shipping to you would usually ask for your EORI number if it’s needed, I’ve always needed it if sending/receiving large items or quantities to EU or China
In regards to the custom fees its to do with the product value. I sell wigs and hair extensions and you they aint cheap. So when i ask my vendor to send them to me i tell them to put the product value at $19 instead of $300 because them custom fees gon be high. like this one time i had to pay nearly £200 just for custom fees. so now with my customers when i ship outside the uk i label the product as synthetic hair and put the product price as £19 but it really isnt, it's just so my customers dont pay a fortune when they receive it.
Thank you so much for this information it's so hard to find!💖 When shipping to usa from uk do you have any customs/vat charges you need to pay? Or does the customer get these costs if there is any? Thank you again. Love your videos! X
Love your vids! You are a godsend! Quick question, how do you set it up in Shopify so you can prevent orders coming in from Europe ( and all the headache that entails!) x
I have used by train before haha and it took 3 months as it got stuck at the border in Germany and sent back to the warehouse in Germany luckily I got it in the end! I think il try by sea next time 😂 but it does normally take 1 month so I’m told 😋
I love your vids! 😊 Would you say one should stick to selling only in the UK (whilst starting up) or do you think more customers come from outside the UK ( than inside the UK)? - I'm just trying to see what is the best way to start without being overwhelmed and making a good profit x
Thank you!! ❤️ and atm I’d say stick to UK just to make things easier for yourself but shipping to the USA is pretty easy too just make sure you get the custom codes and eori number for the customs form you have to fill out. For me my sales have always been majority UK with USA & Europe close 2nd x
Is the VAT/tax charge only for EU packages? I'm from the UK and most of my customers are US based - can I just set up shopify and send packages without any tax charges for these US orders? It really is a headache, I'm trying to migrate from Etsy but Etsy deals with the heavy work and it's hard to leave :c
I never use RM to ship to Europe they just arnt geared up for the customs. I use Dpd or ups, they seem better but I get the odd package returned especially from Italy. Brexit has ruined my small business. Europeans buy from the UK as a last resort.
Hey, I'm just wondering about including commercial invoices alongside the customs form? Do you ever do it for your regular international packages? Everywhere I look they reccomend you add one but I don't have a label printer and I'm a bit hesitant about printing the 3x copies they say ate neccessary and wasting ink. My packages have got through fine with just a customs form the the US, CA, AUS, NZ and japan.
Hi. Hope you get this comment. I’m uk based and looking to ship from shopify to USA. Am I correct in saying I do t need the IOSS for this. Is it only Europe that requires this?
I am watching your videos back to back, you gave the most practical advices that ACTUALLY help small business. Thank you.
You’re so welcome! Thank you for sharing it means a lot 😊❤️
Your videos are so helpful I’m starting my new business on shopify using Royal Mail so thank you!!!!
So happy to hear 🙌🏽 Thanks for sharing ❤️❤️
Could you do a video just on the custom codes. How you collect, store, make, use and place them as you grow
Can you say anything about VAT registration. I am currently trying to figure our whether I need to be VAT registered to sell into Europe and I cannot find any answers. :(
Do you have an update on this video? Especially regarding the EU x
I wish I did! Still no easy solution to EU shipping atm 😅
Hi helpful video thank you. Do you know if everything is still the same or are there any updates?

Do you know any good shipping carriers that ships to Fiji please from the UK

Amazing!! So happy to hear this 👏🏽👏🏽 good luck with the launch!
This is a great video, thank you. A quick question:- When you receive an order from America how do you deal with the DDP tax cost. Is it taken care of with Royal Mail click and Drop?
You’re welcome! With Royal Mail Click & Drop there shouldn’t be any tax/duties for the customer to pay when it arrives, with the EU there is
@@UKCurlyGirl Thank you!

Try fiddle with your printer layout settings and if not a hack is to screenshot them both separately and print individually 😅
So informative, thank you for taking the time to share this 🙏🏽
You’re so welcome!
Great video, do you get Import Tax on International orders?

It’s not easy 😅😂
For shipping abroad and in EU some people are using the gift option and there are no fees then
Thankyou very informative so the customs form explained at the beginning applied only for US and Australia and not for Europe ?
Yep not EU anymore as there are new regulations 🙏🏽
If I enter the HS code on my customs form, will the customer not have to pay any fees?
Depends on the countries requirements that you’re sending it to, usually no if it’s outside of the EU ✨
This is super useful, thank you. Do you find that most of your international sales come from the US rather than Europe? I'm selling on etsy and the is a huge market there.
Yes deffo the USA but then I stopped selling to the EU due to the customs charges

Literally struggling with the same questions!

Hi, do you apply taxes on parcels shipped from UK to USA?
Hi! How do I know and make sure that the costumer is not paying for customs fees to receive the parcel?
5:07 So where does the number go on the form?
This was so helpful! Does anyone know what the customs and taxes are like when shipping to Canada from the UK? (for orders over CAN$20)

You’re welcome! ☺️ and to USA atm I’m pretty sure they don’t get charged it’s the EU that’s an issue currently 🙄
how do you deal with state taxes in the US?
Love your vids! You are a godsend! Quick question, how do you set it up in Shopify so you can prevent orders coming in from Europe ( and all the headache that entails!) x
You will be able to prevent that through your shipping settings.
@@tee2483 Thank you lovely x
Do you need add a commercial invoice? Thank you!
For some countries! But your shipping provider should have instructions on whats needed 😊

@@UKCurlyGirl definitely! 🤣
When you ship to USA does the receiver alway Have to pay a customs charge ? If you use ups or Royal Mail etc
Hey! Not to USA (when you use Royal Mail and fill out the customs form they give you) I haven’t used UPS so not sure
@@UKCurlyGirl Thanks I’ve sent using it today and filling in the Royal Mail sticker they provided!
This was so useful!! 🫶🏾

I know it’s so tough isn’t it!
Are you also VAT registered? Would it be worth registering for VAT before setting up an EORI number and IOSS
I have the same question!!
Oh my gosh, just watching this makes me stressed. So much to learn
You’ll get there! 🙌🏽
Any updates on how to ship internationally ?
I have a few videos on this but in regards to the EU I still don’t have the answers 😂😂
Can you ship international when you first launch your business?
Yes you’ll just need to follow the couriers requirements they may give you customs forms to fill out depending on the country and type of parcel
Hey, I'm just wondering about including commercial invoices alongside the customs form? Do you ever do it for your regular international packages?
