- We had to repair the fiberglass and gelcoat on a 64 foot Vikings deck hatch. After starting the project we realized the hatch had quite a bit of rot! It was a long project just trying to do all the layers and dry time in between. It turned out awesome. We contacting Viking and found out that they are no longer make this hatch so we had to repair the old one.

Working with fiberglass is becoming a dying art. Unfortunately we lost one of the best fiberglass and gelcoat guys that just happened to work at our marina. He could repair anything and make it look brand new. He was also one of the nicest guys you would ever meet. RIP Mark. That hatch looked amazing when your guy finished it. I wish Key West wasn't so far away. I need an excuse to escape to some sunshine and warm weather.
Where do you live? You definitely want to fly here easier on your back!
@@WillFixThat I live just outstide Columbus Ohio.
@@jetlag4754oh yeah chilly up there.
Really nice job on the hatch
Yup helped save it for the boat!
Great job on the hatch guys. My only suggestion would be to vacuum bag it as opposed to weighing it down to cure. It’s actually way less work than all that clamping.
Agree but no one here has that technology! 👍
@@WillFixThat it’s nothing fancy. Standard vacuum pump and some plastic. Use sealant tape and it conforms to any shape. Use it on the side of hulls, over head, or on the work bench.

Good job looked great when you were done. I have a few soft spots that I am going to have to tackle soon, nothing serious, I stopped where the moisture was getting in (handrail stanchion screws)
It did look great but its a process that can't be rushed when you have to do so many steps to get it finished! Did you see the Teak Deck Removal video where we found the soft spot on the deck? It was a surprise to find so much water when we cut it open! ua-cam.com/video/zrSt2ImJmWU/v-deo.html
Good job
Thanks for watching!
Customer wasn't really to concerned with the cost once we found out that we couldn't get a new one! As you can see it takes a lot of work to get one finished. It goes on this beautiful boat ua-cam.com/video/_ShlfCtPhHY/v-deo.html
What a great job. Wunderbar!
It was a process as you can see 🥴 it took us lots of time! It turned out awesome you can’t put pressure if you want perfection 🤣
Amazing
Yup saved their hatch! Took a lot of time but you can’t just buy a new one.
Way cheaper then a new Viking 👍😆
You’re exactly right!

The only consideration is what the insurance company will sell the boat for. There are people who buy boats , houses and buildings that are total and rebuild and sell for a profit. The profit must include materials, all labor and cost of money. If the insurance company would sell this boat for $25,000.00 or less and the perso 8:29 n who 8:29 8:29 8:29 8:29
plips boat like people plips houses, land, or buildings and knows what there doing can make a reasonable profit. It all depends on the buyers experience and the cost of purchase.😮
Yup price can definitely be a deciding factor … with our experience we wouldn’t touch it! Would you buy it for $25k?
That wasn't an easy job.
No it wasn’t but it turned out great! We do some really hard work sometimes.
How much did it cost?
Thanks for watching it was about $5500 for the whole repair! We didn't have many options so repairing it was the best solution. You can see it was pretty rotten from years of use.
@@WillFixThat I’m in the wrong business😂good job though
@@Captyogi ☺ might look nice but we are managing chaos every day! Guess someone has to do it!
