I am glad, Dean, that you no longer rate the neighborhoods. This project has morphed into something that needed ratings into something entirely more cinematic and expansive in scope/concept. It is a thrill to check out every new thing you do, and while I know this concept is going to get old, I hope that takes a long time.... Well done, sir....well done, indeed! As a patreon of yours, I only ask that the vids become a tad longer... I want to know more about each area...more footage, more people...more community. But you continue to do "you" Dean....
Honestly each video could go for hours but then we would be waiting weeks for a new one. I think they are perfect just the way they are.❤I look forward to a new peek at my city every week thanks to you, Dean. Keep up the great work and THANK YOU!
i know im randomly asking but does any of you know a method to log back into an Instagram account?? I stupidly forgot my password. I love any help you can offer me!
@Maximiliano Erik Thanks so much for your reply. I found the site thru google and I'm waiting for the hacking stuff atm. Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
some of the most thoughtful artistic stuff being produced on you tube. i don't even live in pittsburgh but am fascinated by this city do in large to Deans work. hope to visit this spring.
I didn’t grow up in Pittsburgh, but I spent the last few years working at AGH, and I’ve definitely fallen in love with the Mexican war streets. Lovely community
Great segment with Diane Samuels and the Houses of City of Asylum (8:14). I had no idea there is that thoughtful sanctuary. Love her new found perception on life. I have always welcomed the expansion of perception but it can be overwhelming so you have to pick and choose like picking a neighborhood to explore.
This is the most randomly, extremely well-produced video I've ever come across on UA-cam. I'm just fucking around searching up random US cities and I do "Pittsburgh" and here's this gem of a video. I mean, oh my goodness this is some quality content. Fuck this is good. I'm studying for school right now but goddamn I just found a channel to binge watch. You got a new subscriber here
From California and came across some research that led me to this Video. Did not expect this to make me feel like I want to move there. Hope to visit one day.
Another wonderful view of our city. The War Streets are a favorite of mine. I love your unique view through the camera on how to see and feel where you are. I like old houses too for their soul (Rod McQuen wrote a poem about that) and that is what your videos have as well, and bring out in the neighborhoods you explore, as well as the people you may talk to. You are one very talented young man. One other note...the music in this video and others... beautiful.
Thanks for posting these. Been living in Seattle for the last 7 yrs and sometimes I really miss home. And you got Foo in a video! I know him from my days in the South Side!
What a well done video. The Randyland part is fascinating and the guy that sells beer, it almost makes you feel like you went back in time 50 years looking at that place. The Squirrel and the Bird thing was freaking hilarious.. In the beginning, I thought you were talking to some older woman, and kept thinking, why doesn't she want to be on camera. Lmao.
I lived in Pittsburgh in the 90s I loved it, the best time of my life. Your videos bring me back to Pittsburgh in a way thats second only to being there. Thank You
Thanks so much for making this gorgeous video about my neighbourhood! I’ve only lived here for five years but it feels more like home than anywhere else I’ve been. I knew almost nothing about Pittsburgh when I moved here. I’m so lucky I landed in an area with great people and organizations.
Excellent series. Have you done McKeesport yet ? When I took my middle back east, and we went down to explore McKeesport ( where I lived from 67-1986) , it was heart breaking to see the decay and despair of parts of the city. He put together a video for a Rode Reel entry on UA-cam search for : Rode Reel 2017: Ashes to Ashes . I will make sure to share your work with him. Very powerful stuff. Keep up the great work.
The snowing scene at the end is simply beautiful, absolutely beautiful! Hey, wanted to mention- there's another youtube video where the guy drove through Pittsburgh & titled it "worst parts of Pittsburgh". I commented that a person can drive through any city in the usa & see the same stuff, and didn't help driving through during middle of winter. I also included if people want to see what Pittsburgh really looked like to look you up. I had several comments from my post, and several people mentioned you & how they really love your work. Just thought you should know. Keep it up.
I grew up in Buffalo, NY and moved to Pgh. when I was 19 years old. Walking up those city steps nearly killed me especially because I was carrying my then three year old son, wrapped in a heavy blanket. I lived at 2703 Oakley Way on the Slopes. I watched them blow up the Birmingham Bridge from there. It was so cool!
A little history on the Garden Theater and Federal St. Would be a nice follow up to this video. From the neighborhood's heydays to it's decline in the 50's/60's and it's resurgence and renaissance today. If streets could talk.....especially Federal. Another excellent work Dean! Thank you
I love everything you do; I mean it sincerely. I grew up in Greenfield - that place will always have my heart, but watching you shine a light on all the wonderful nooks & crannies of Pittsburgh brings a guaranteed tear every time. Thanks so very, very much.
A+ Video again ! I have been waiting for your next video and this was certainly worth the wait. Love the snow falling and the new visual collage idea . Must be great writers in this area for sure because the tribute of the soap dispenser was very witty and creative.
Dean , THANK YOU .... I'm in the area alot for work and often wondered about things I'd see in the area and you answered all of them and more. Another FANTASTIC video
Lived there in the 1980s on Resaca Place. Had three fireplaces, one on each floor of my apartment. The heating bill was $200 a month. Zero insulation and the landlord never thought of installing modern flue systems.
Dean I just love your videos. I have to leave my home state sometime soon and I had no idea where to go, no city felt right to me. A friend told me to check out Pittsburgh, and that is how I found your youtube. You def sold me on this place big time, no where else has been even half as appealing and you had a big part in making sure I saw the real city. Thank you.
Thank you for making these videos. I love this city and the production quality is outstanding. The fact that it appears they are produced by you alone is super impressive:)
Amazing series @Dean. Im moving to Pittsburgh for grad school at CMU but stayed home for the first fall semester. This series has helped me feel connected to the city and learn about the neighborhoods
SUGAR SUGAR SUGAR! I can't get enough of it! When i was listening to the call me right back podcast I thought you were going to have all five shots in one screen running at the same time. I dog it though. Far more positive. Keep up the good work!
Love the closing shot with the snow the best. Oh and hey watch thT sugar, the baggie might look like something else. And as always, the doggies and kitty.
I miss Wilson's Ribs. Now as an old man I've lived in many different places coast to coast and their ribs are still top 3 all time. Right there on the Mexican War Streets.
Another great video post Dean. I really like your awesome collection, I don't read comments, so I dont know if this has been suggested. I really think you could "rewind" or "revisit" each community at different times of the year. I only say this because I'd really like to get a better idea of each region as it changes over our, while it be sporadic*, weather. I'd like to see our winter and summer versions of each neighborhoods. No matter what you do, I have greatly appreciated and enjoyed your work. I hope you find gratification and prosperity in your coming adventures. Good luck and be brave! Edit*
I used to hit acid and listen to vinyl with my friends in many of these homes in the early 70s. Oh we definitely knew each other and experimented but we didn't need a special day to sit out on the steps! :)
@@RachelRenee3636 Very nice, you are a serious listener to be at that level. I had about 800 LP's at one time. I still have about 500 but many of those original ones have been replaced with my current taste. I still love my old rock. I would never get rid of Lead Zeppelin's stairway to heaven, or my pink Floyd albums. My favorite thing to do back in the day was to canvass the "Cut outs' (discounted, out of print, etc) albums at NRM or Oasis , Steadfords on East Ohio Street, and so forth. Most albums were .79 cents to a dollar, and I found some real gems. One of my favorites that I still have (without a single scratch) is Buddy Miles LIVE on the Mercury label.
I liked living in the war streets when I could afford it. It just got to expensive as the rents kept going up and I will never be able to afford a livable home there unfortunately. Great neighborhood though especially with west park being right there
I used to take my son to randyland when we lived on jacksonia st. The house we rented was over 100 yrs old n was an old bravel then a home where my uncle was raised. But i grew up all over Pittsburgh. I was never anywhere near rich n Pittsburgh was a hostile place to live for us. Cold n bold. But the old buildings definitely gives it charm.
Yea he’s back been missin these ! I spent 10 days over there at Allegheny gen prayin my best friend would wake up from his coma but sadly he didn’t. We used to walk the park all the time when he lived on James st. It’s a scary area at night tho tbh. But ok during the day
My bad he lived on Suseman and you showed his old rowhouse.. wow first of your vlogs to make me burst into tears.. but in good way brought back good memories of al the walks we took all over there.
My great grandparents sold their small corner store and house above it for like $1000 dollars in the late 60s on Buena Vista. Haha I looked at a gutted property for $150,000 last year on the same street.
Kudos to you for this series. My daughter is moving to Pittsburgh, so I am doing neighborhood research. I haven't watched them in order, but was glad to see a wiener dog make an appearance!! Your videos are a wonderful introduction to Pittsburgh. Thanks.

The sugar segment was beautiful. The beer guy was beautiful. Everything was beautiful.

Goddam if I wasn't jonesing for a new Neighborhoods vid. Thanks for making these man. Always makes my day when I see a new one.
Growing up on the Northside, I’ve got to see first hand the transformation the war streets have had. It is one awesome community
I lived on Clayton Ave and University

The Mattress Factory is one of my favorite museums in the entire city. So unique. Very nicely done, Dean. I look forward to the next one.
I remodeled several of the houses you walked by. Lot of great people over there. Another great video.
Every video gets better and better. I look forward to your next installment.
you should really do braddock and historic braddock with houses by us steel

I’ve been waiting for this one! Stoked!
I'm excited to see these short films with the spring/summer backdrop
Lived there in the 1980s on Resaca Place. Had three fireplaces, one on each floor of my apartment. The heating bill was $200 a month. Zero insulation and the landlord never thought of installing modern flue systems.
Thank you for including the memoriam to the commonplace soap dispenser!

One of my favorite ones yet and this whole movement has been a treat to witness... Never stop doing what you love and creating and crafting....
The long awaited return!
I lived on the Mexican War Street down the street from Franco Harris and attend the Tours. It "was" a Pleasant vibrant place to live.
Love the addition of on screen credits for interviews. Keep up the great work Dean!
Great cinematography👍
Beautifully done, happily awaiting the chronicling of your next adventure
I grew up at 1239 Resaca Place. I'm up in Observatory Hill now. Great video.
I work in the North Side and the war streets are beautiful.

What is your all-time favorite record?
@@RachelRenee3636 Well my tastes have changed, but at that time probably Pink Floyd "Dark side of the moon"
