Depends on the amount of turns, if there's traffic,... the m5 could beat the ferrari if constant breaking and accelerating is needed ie mountain road. In the other hand the ferrari is superior in long straight lines when it should be superior everywhere due to engine size and hp

2 years late - the M5 is a car. The 812 is a work of art - the looks, the sound, the novelty, prestige, raw feeling, NA engine… if anyone had a choice to be given one, they would be crazy if they took the BMW
The thing is you expect these kind of performances and numbers from a Ferrari. You even demand it for that price. You don't expect an M5 to give a 812 a run for it's money like that. BMW has made one impressive beast.
I dont know, I expected the grip advantage for bmw to give even more results, so I would say the other way around honestly. Power/weight is king with enough grip after all, and I would expect most people to know an M5 is pretty good in that deparment.

The brake test was super impressive but the 1/4 isn’t. We know it’s a low grip surface that CarWOW runs on and all powerful RWD cars always do awful 1/4 times here. In this context any AWD car has a huge advantage here however when the 812 gets on the move, it makes the M5 look like it’s parked up, the difference is astonishingly big which I hadn’t expected. I thought the 812 would get away given practically equal weight and ~160bhp extra but it didn’t just get away it disappeared. Still the M5 is an amazing car but it’s bonkers that it costs £141k standard and the CarWOW car costs £180k…… has everyone lost their minds?
That 6.5-L V12 just rips and it sounds so freaking good~~ I mean the 4.4-L V8 in the M5 CS is still amazing, and Ferrari and BMW both make good engines, but that V12 is just something special.
The M5 CS is absolutely insane! BMW has build a Saloon Family-Car with many daily driver qualities, which keeps up with high-end supercars. Thats just amazing. For a daily/longer journey and family car I'd take the M5..it fills 3/4 of my heart as it is But for the other 1/4...which isn't complete without something special...that Ferrari or some killer Lambo would have to be there somewhere.
I own a 2021 maserati ghibli trofeo and it performs just like the ferrari. So much hp from a stand still that the tires just spin. 60-120 is where the car truly shines.

I wish BMW made a purpose-built super car just as a fun side project. Something that draws its design from the M1. They already have the powertrain and the engineering to accomplish that so it shouldn’t be hard to do, surely.

Their trap speeds are also much different too, the CS will trap no more than 130mph while the 812 will trap close to 140. Two different leagues

The 812 is so impressive

I wanna see 2022 Cadillac CT5-V blackwing vs M5 CS roll race!! The Cadillac CT5-V has both a 6 speed manual and 10 speed automatic transmission option. The videos of it on UA-cam they always race the manual version instead of the 10 speed automatic version.
Almost nothing touches the 812 from 60mph-on. And regardless of being a little heavy and front engine, still a sublime handling, steering and balanced beautiful track weapon. Arguably the greatest front engine car ever made!

Holy cow, so many disinformation. In a rolling race m5 CS is not even close. It got demolished! Standing start is nothing special cause its awd vs. RWD. The actual hp difference is realistically only 100hp. All m5 which got dynoed were about 700hp. I wonder if the superfast have actual 800hp. The Aero of a sportscar is always worse compared to a Sedan like 5 series. Downforce = bad aero, especially at higher speeds. 5 series is around 0,24, 812 is around 0,34 M5 CS is fast, but its not even close to 812🤭

Another tremendous drag race, Mat! The BMW’s victory shows the advantage of 4WD (especially if the launch control is working properly, and/or if the track conditions put RWD at an inherent disadvantage). It would be interesting to know what speed each car was doing when it crossed the quarter mile line - I’d bet the Ferrari was moving more quickly. An extra acceleration test from a pootling dawdle (5-10mph, say) to full beans might also be instructive… (If I’m not mistaken, across the pond they sort of ignore the first split second of acceleration, possibly to take wheel slip out of the equation? Although with some of their more lairy muscle cars there’s such preposterous wheelspin in the first two or three gears that the point become moot.) And while I’m at it, Mat, would you consider including the 0-100 mph times, not necessarily in your drag races but rather in your acceleration tests? There are so many cars nowadays that are in the same ballpark when it comes to 0-60 mph that it’s not until higher speeds that you start to see separation and get an picture of rapid vs properly quick. The thing is you expect these kind of performances and numbers from a Ferrari. You even demand it for that price. You don't expect an M5 to give a 812 a run for it's money like that. BMW has made one impressive beast.
I dont know, I expected the grip advantage for bmw to give even more results, so I would say the other way around honestly. Power/weight is king with enough grip after all, and I would expect most people to know an M5 is pretty good in that deparment.
This drag race is suspicious to say the least. The best time 812 had was 10.4 in 812 vs svj vs turbo s video. Idk if this is made pretty even on purpose.

The fact a big saloon car can beat a 800hp Ferrari in a standing straight line race is amazing. Also in a braking test. Wow !
The brake test was super impressive but the 1/4 isn’t. We know it’s a low grip surface that CarWOW runs on and all powerful RWD cars always do awful 1/4 times here. In this context any AWD car has a huge advantage here however when the 812 gets on the move, it makes the M5 look like it’s parked up, the difference is astonishingly big which I hadn’t expected. I thought the 812 would get away given practically equal weight and ~160bhp extra but it didn’t just get away it disappeared. Still the M5 is an amazing car but it’s bonkers that it costs £141k standard and the CarWOW car costs £180k…… has everyone lost their minds?

BMW has build a Saloon Family-Car with many daily driver qualities, which keeps up with high-end supercars. Thats just amazing.
But i would still take the Ferrari if I could. N/a V12 with 6.5 L and 800 HP... This seems to be from another world. It must be so fun to drive. And I could listen to this sound 24/7.

For a daily/longer journey and family car I'd take the M5..it fills 3/4 of my heart as it is

I own a 2021 maserati ghibli trofeo and it performs just like the ferrari. So much hp from a stand still that the tires just spin. 60-120 is where the car truly shines.

Their trap speeds are also much different too, the CS will trap no more than 130mph while the 812 will trap close to 140. Two different leagues

@@Ibnhlal4cars 150 hp extra (812 has 789 hp) is why it caught up so quickly to the bmw before the quarter mile. but dont forget that the bmw has awd vs the ferrari's rwd so it can lay the power down better and faster off the line. conditions werent perfect either which is bad news for an almost 800 hp rwd car. also dont forget that the bmw has more torque which helps in accelaration. The 812 is so impressive

I wanna see 2022 Cadillac CT5-V blackwing vs M5 CS roll race!! The Cadillac CT5-V has both a 6 speed manual and 10 speed automatic transmission option. The videos of it on UA-cam they always race the manual version instead of the 10 speed automatic version.

Almost nothing touches the 812 from 60mph-on. And regardless of being a little heavy and front engine, still a sublime handling, steering and balanced beautiful track weapon. Arguably the greatest front engine car ever made!

What’s the point of your comment? My comment was a response to another comment, calling it a super car killer. However, it is not. And again, it did not do it unconvincingly, it gave it a proper flogging. Yes it is more expensive, but if it is referred to as a super car killer, then price is not part of the comparison. It may not be surprising or impressive that the 812 can while the floor with the M5, but that does not make falling the M5 a killer any less daft.

The actual hp difference is realistically only 100hp. All m5 which got dynoed were about 700hp. I wonder if the superfast have actual 800hp.
The Aero of a sportscar is always worse compared to a Sedan like 5 series. Downforce = bad aero, especially at higher speeds. 5 series is around 0,24, 812 is around 0,34

The BMW’s victory shows the advantage of 4WD (especially if the launch control is working properly, and/or if the track conditions put RWD at an inherent disadvantage). It would be interesting to know what speed each car was doing when it crossed the quarter mile line - I’d bet the Ferrari was moving more quickly. An extra acceleration test from a pootling dawdle (5-10mph, say) to full beans might also be instructive… (If I’m not mistaken, across the pond they sort of ignore the first split second of acceleration, possibly to take wheel slip out of the equation? Although with some of their more lairy muscle cars there’s such preposterous wheelspin in the first two or three gears that the point become moot.)
And while I’m at it, Mat, would you consider including the 0-100 mph times, not necessarily in your drag races but rather in your acceleration tests? There are so many cars nowadays that are in the same ballpark when it comes to 0-60 mph that it’s not until higher speeds that you start to see separation and get an picture of rapid vs properly quick.
