People say that Anton Ego is supposed to be the "villain" of this movie, but he's just a professional critic. @33:55 _I'm happy they made a resturant called Ratatouile. I'm curious on how that works cause they're using rats._ Actually it is *Anton Ego,* who opened Ratatouile *using his solid reputation* as tough food critic *to cover* the fact that the chef is a rat He also made sure to be seen eating there as often as possible. A *sign* to customers that everything must be *perfect with Anton Ego eating here.* Funny his name is Ego, underlining the idea he mentions in his article: That it is easy to be a tough critic with the downside that the critic feeds his ego while leaving chefs no room for creativity or discovery.
It certainly is. A lot of Pixar's movies boil down to the one moment, the one scene which is just so good, it would elevate even the most crappiest of movies (not that Pixar does crappy). In the Toy Story franchise, it's Jesse's story. In Up, it is the whole prologue. and in Ratatoille, it is certainly Ego's article. Such an amazing moment.
It's so great because it's obviously a monologue geared toward adults. Little kids definitely won't be able to understand the whole meaning of Ego's speech, but adults can.
This was directed by Andrew Stanton starring Patton Oswald as Remy, Jeanine Garafola, Ian Holm as the villain Chef Skinner, and Brad Garrett as Gustavo Gusteau
16:26 So his mother was basically the best cook in France's recent history but no one ever discovered her because she was happy enough not being a professional chef
This was such a good movie. such *such* a good movie. My favorite part of the film was when Alfredo Linguini (the son of Gusteau) thanks Colette for all the cooking advice and she replies with "Thank you too, for taking it" Maybe it was the way she replied back or just the wholesomeness of that moment but I really like that scene.

This is my all time favorite animated film, and some fun facts: The restaurant in this movie is based on THE FRENCH LAUNDRY, and the producers even asked chef 👨🍳 Thomas Keller to design a special dish for this movie, which is the ratatouille dish that the food critic tried towards the end that reminded him of the dish his mom had made for him as a child. And Thomas Keller has often said that a great meal should give you great memories. Now, The French Laundry 🧺 is located in Yountville, California. It is the restaurant that California governor Gavin Newsom was recently caught eating at with a group of his buddies with zero masks 😷 on and zero distancing!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Another favorite movie of mine is SPANGLISH, with Adam Sandler playing a chef, and his restaurant in the film is also based on THE FRENCH LAUNDRY 🧺, from how the dining room is set up and the kitchen and the plating of the dish! To prepare for the role, Sandler cooked with chef Thomas Keller, who taught him to cook. And there is a video here on YT, of Keller showing Sandler how to make the world’s greatest sandwich 🥪!!!! The very same sandwich 🥪 that Sandler makes in the movie! 😋 🤤 🥪
Not sure if it was mentioned, but the voice of Chef Skinner, is Ian Holms: Older Bilbo from Lord of the Rings and Ash from Alien. Remy is Patton Oswalt: The Deep's gills from The Boys
Ratatouille is my 2nd favorite Pixar Film after Finding Nemo. Truly Pixar's Magnum Opus and is fairly underrated compared to the other big Pixar films.
Thanx for remind me this movie I saw back in the time with my son (he was something like 4 at the time , now he's 17) he loved it .I remember the opening scene was impressive in theaters. Ratatouille (the dish) is my cooking specialty . ♥ from France.
One of my favorite dish is drunken chicken. I use chicken wings with the skin intact. I steam them in a pot with some rice wine or chardonnay. Hard to find rice wine in Virginia. Add in some parsley and ginger. If you can't eat them all, no problem. Get a mason jar, put the wings in it, add some more wine, put it in the fridge after it cools and you have breakfast.
I have worked in professional kitchens and it can be a very stressful environment, and it can become very chaotic, at times, but I've never really experienced that before, however, I have worked in a kitchen in culinary school, where one of the chef's would shout a lot, lol. This movie was very well made, and they did a lot of research in order to get things right in that kitchen. Another great movie you could react to is Burnt, with Bradley Cooper. Gordon Ramsay had a hand in helping with that movie as well. The other movie I like is Chef, with Jon Favreau. Both are excellent films.
There was this theory that the grandma in the beginning of the movie is the mother of Anton Ego that we saw in the flashbacks. A great theory but it hasn't been confirmed.
I think the theory would work better if she was an aunt or even his grandma (it’s possible). The reason he is so dark is because his mother died, and the family dish that Remy learned from the old lady, took him back to his childhood. Again, that’s just a theory
Another great movie from Pixar. Remy is voiced by Patton Oswald, Linguini is voiced by Ray Romano's brother, the villain Chef Skinner is voiced by Ian Holm, Gustavo Gusteau is voiced by Brad Garrett, and the the food critic is voiced by Peter O'toole
