  • Meet Marshal Lyles; in this video, he introduces himself and his lived experience of muscular dystrophy. He gives his insights on disability, disablism, ableism and how, historically, the world is designed for what is considered "normal".
Marshall asks the question, what if we are creating a societal phenomenon of traumatising the disabled through othering and then treating their necessitated dissociation as an individual's symptoms instead of a culturally created pattern?
In the second half of this recording, Marshall discusses the protective, the adaptive, the often misunderstood and mistreated mental process of dissociation and the fact that much of the professional wisdom on treating dissociation has been filtered through a lens of ableism.
