She was a 96-year-old lady who has recently lost her husband, endured several family crises and scandals, overcome multiple health issues and still showed up for work and put in quite a lot of overtime. While it is absolutely a sad time for her family, she had every right to bow out and get some peace at last.

Wow. She is a major part of world history and has been the Queen for as long some most of us have been alive. A woman adored around the world. I know that she is 96 but like many I expected her to live for a few more years at least to 100. It's unfortunate that she will not get to see her son ascend to the throne. I always wondered why she did not step down sooner and pass the throne to him during her lifetime but I am sure that she had her reasons. No one will ever reign as long as she has outside of an unexpected tragedy similar to how she took over at such a young age. She is truly the end of an era. I am American and I just feel so sad. I'm tearing up off and on. She was just remarkable. I was thinking back on her life, from the London bombings, being a mechanic, and all the happenings in the world and in her family, and she just did her duty, as she promised all those years ago. I was 7 years old when she had her coronation. I remember it was on the radio in our kitchen. It didn't mean much at that time but I'm so glad to be a part of that history. I just never thought of anyone else on the throne. I was concerned with her last appearance on the balcony. She looked lovely in her light blue suit and hat but also looked very frail and almost shrunken. I realized, at that point, that she would not be here forever. I have a very clear memory of February 6th 1952. I was just past my eighth birthday. Our classroom was on the attic floor of a large old house. There was an old lady, Mrs Wass, who was the “dinner lady” and on this day we suddenly heard her wailing and gasping as she came puffing up the stairs to our room, burst through the door, and said “The King is dead! Long live the Queen!” before collapsing to the floor in floods of tears. Our teacher, Miss Greaves, had to help her to a chair. We got sent home early that day and it was the first time in my life that I bought a Newspaper.

However I have always felt and believed in a deep kinship between the U.S. and the U.K. I remember staying up all night secretly watching news coverage of Princess Diana’s death. I was 10 years old but it felt so personal and significant to me for some reason. I feel the same feeling today. We may have rebelled against the crown and earned our freedom but that doesn’t take away the connections we share historically. We wouldn’t exist as we are if not for Great Britain and if I were ever to swear allegiance to a crown it would be the British crown. We your American cousins share your grief today. I was a 4 year old when I first saw HM when she toured the commonwealth after her coronation. In 16 visits to Australia so many of us got to catch a glimpse of her beautiful smile and incredible skin. She was incredible tiny not much over 5 ft . Her aura was huge. So loved. We are probably ‘old’ enough as a country to be a republic. Countries that changed just for the sake of change often end up with Presidents who rock the boat. Until we find a better system why change? When she visited us in Australia it was a special event. People travelled hundreds of miles and lined up for hours just to catch a glimpse of her. Wow. She is a major part of world history and has been the Queen for as long some most of us have been alive. A woman adored around the world. I know that she is 96 but like many I expected her to live for a few more years at least to 100. It's unfortunate that she will not get to see her son ascend to the throne. I always wondered why she did not step down sooner and pass the throne to him during her lifetime but I am sure that she had her reasons. No one will ever reign as long as she has outside of an unexpected tragedy similar to how she took over at such a young age. She is truly the end of an era. My condolences to the entire royal family and long live the King.

I am American and I just feel so sad. I'm tearing up off and on. She was just remarkable. I was thinking back on her life, from the London bombings, being a mechanic, and all the happenings in the world and in her family, and she just did her duty, as she promised all those years ago.
I was 7 years old when she had her coronation. I remember it was on the radio in our kitchen. It didn't mean much at that time but I'm so glad to be a part of that history. I just never thought of anyone else on the throne.
I was concerned with her last appearance on the balcony. She looked lovely in her light blue suit and hat but also looked very frail and almost shrunken. However I have always felt and believed in a deep kinship between the U.S. and the U.K. I remember staying up all night secretly watching news coverage of Princess Diana’s death. I was 10 years old but it felt so personal and significant to me for some reason. I feel the same feeling today. We may have rebelled against the crown and earned our freedom but that doesn’t take away the connections we share historically. We wouldn’t exist as we are if not for Great Britain and if I were ever to swear allegiance to a crown it would be the British crown. We your American cousins share your grief today. I was a 4 year old when I first saw HM when she toured the commonwealth after her coronation.
In 16 visits to Australia so many of us got to catch a glimpse of her beautiful smile and incredible skin.
She was incredible tiny not much over 5 ft .
Her aura was huge.
So loved.
We are probably ‘old’ enough as a country to be a republic.
