Guy, what is the problem! A person is simply stating that without shoes, children can not go to school, costing them an education and a chance to change their life. Jeff, what a great cause you stand for. Seriously, I read the website and I think that it is fantastic. That is your way of creating awareness, let Alice have hers. Going a Day without shoes has nothing to do with can we actually archive, is better for our feet, but simply there are thousands of kids around the world that don't have any. Nothing to do with playing basketball, nothing to do with running, and nothing to do ankle sprains. Children + education = future. Not matter what country you live in, it is a basic human right to learn. Jeff, I read your website and I ask that you read about Tom's program. It is a step in the right direction and videos like this are meant to create awareness not cause UA-cam drama. I hope this finds you all well.

I’ve started walking every day without any shoes on. It was a little experiment at first, but now it’s like a little hobby. I just like the feeling of my feet on the ground. Whatever the surface.. Grass, Tarmac, Soil or sand.
It feels really nice, but there are actually a lot of surprising health benefits to walking barefoot. These benefits come from the position of your feet when they’re not guided by shoes, and the connection between your feet and the earth. Here are some of the main benefits of walking barefoot..
Doing this for about 30-60 minutes a day will allow you a vast improvement in your energy and overall well being. You’ll feel less lethargic and more able to go and do things. You’ll have a much lower level of inflammation and you’ll even sleep better.
3 - Your posture and the movement of your feet
I’ve read in a number of places that walking barefoot improves your posture and your natural gait.
Your gait is the natural distance or movement of your stride when you walk or run. It affects your susceptibility to injury, and also your other joints connected to your feet, such as your knees and hips. Having a natural gait allows you to walk naturally and with a lower rate of injury, in general.
By walking barefoot, you experience a more natural gait, because you aren’t able to take large bounding strides, as you’d hurt your feet. This means you are forced to take a smaller stride, and think more carefully about your foot placement. Because your feet are exposed to the elements and the objects on the ground, you’re made to take a natural, safe step.
From what I’ve experienced in my few weeks of walking barefoot, and from when I used to walk barefoot as a kid, it works. Just after one or two days of walking in this way you’ll see that you take much more natural, safe strides
when you walk. I haven’t tried barefoot running, but that’s for other reasons. I’m told that it is very good for your joints to run barefoot, as you experience less impact.
    Possible dangers of walking barefoot
There are some inherent dangers associated with walking shoeless. Of course, you’re more susceptible to sharp objects like thorns or flint cutting your feet.

Now, this is a difficult thing to discuss, as everyone has a sightly different opinion, but I’m going to share some of my experiences with this, and you can make your own mind up regarding whether or not walking without shoes is dangerous. So, when you first start walking barefoot, you’ll find that your feet are not strong enough or tough enough to walk on most surfaces for longer than about 5 minutes.
This is because you’ve spent your whole life walking within the sweaty confines of a shoe and socks. Your feet have grown weak as a result of you wearing shoes. If you didn’t wear shoes, your feet would be much stronger. So when you first start walking, you need to build it up slowly, or you’ll get blisters and all sorts of nasty things. Take it a day at a time, and try to increase the distance you walk gradually.
If you walk barefoot, your feet will be relatively safe. You won’t get ‘cut up’ or whatever you’re worried about, because you’ll develop a natural armoring on your feet.

"I'm told that it is very good for your joints to run barefoot, as you experience less impact."
Ehhh... why would you experience LESS impact? The sole of a shoe acts as a cushion, period. Your statement doesn't make sense.

I'm a barefooter and am offended by this drivel. You would be better off donating your money to farming & shelter rather than this anti shoeless campaign. Abebe Bikila won the Olympic marathon in 1960 withOUT shoes.

Your video is misleading. Im a regular barefooter myself but i have never encountered such an injury because when you walk barefoot you're always alert where you step on.
Another thing i would like to suggest is read about the benfits of walking barefoot. Don't cage your feet inside a pair of stupid shoes. when you're walking or jogging with shoes on all what you're doing is "walking your shoes". Because you prevent your feet from doing what you desire. You're doing a great injustice to your feet. God did not invent shoes, instead he created the soles of your feet to absorb the good things offered from the natur. Pls think it over, adopt to barefoot lifestyle. Take my word the benefits are immense. I would like to see you doing a barefoot video in the near future and would like to hear you promoting the health benefits of going barefoot which is also called Grounding.

Very true ! I am a hiker barefoot, starting at 4 years (in 1963). And I never loved the shoes (footwear).
And then, the kids who go barefoot are healthier and smarter than those who walk in shoes. They learn much better at school when they are barefoot !

First... this video is over 5 years old, but I think it is important. I rotate my shoes within my own life by using old and worn out shoes for real bad dirty jobs. So... I think after watching this video, I will just purchase some shoes and donate them to some different groups. I had no idea of the important role shoe have in a person's life.
The cut on your foot has past by now, but years ago I stepped on a nail, when I was bare foot and I was suffering for over a year.
    Thanks for letting me know.

Ummm, you don't just take off shoes one day and run. People who run without shoes or go without shoes every day have feet that are conditioned for it. Having problems by taking your shoes off is a problem with wearing shoes in the first place.

If she actually cut her foot, why didn't the camera man stop filming and help her. She gets up and continues walking without looking to clean her so called wound or bandage it. I know that she wanted to convey that being barefoot is hard but that was a little too scripted for me.

Someone shared this on facebook and wow this is stupid on every level.
First of all, it is slow and poorly produced. Second, the speaker doesn't have the slightest clue what she is talking about. Some schools in 3rd world countries do require shoes, but there is an easier solution: Stop them from requiring shoes. There is no need of them, why bother? Next, shoes CAUSE dozens of health problems throughout the ankles, knees, hips, back, and feet, including joint problems, fungus, plantar fasiosis, among other conditions, and don't prevent ANY illnesses.
Lastly, shoes dull your senses, weaken your skin, cause your muscles to atrophy, your peripheral vision to narrow. It takes months to rebuild those muscles to the point where you can run barefoot safely, months to rebuild the skin to natural levels, months to readjust your peripheral vision. Just going out one day randomly and running barefoot is like taking off a cast after 6 months and immediately running 10 miles. I'd be more surprised if you didn't injure yourself acting that stupid.
I've been walking barefoot just about everywhere for about 5 years now, and I've had exactly 1 cut, 2 minor injuries in that time. Back when I wore shoes, I hurt my ankle every other week and I had constant back pain. Ending my dependence on shoes is the best thing I ever did for my life, and now I walk between 1 and 6 miles a day completely without issue.
Going 1 day without shoes is just an advertising ploy for TOMS shoes. The guy makes millions of dollars a year selling overpriced shoes made in sweat shops by near slave labor at 100-300x the cost of production, sometimes sending another pair to some kid in africa so he can create a new customer base out of people who shoes hurt more than any other population out there. It isn't a charity, it is a disgusting scam by an amoral rich guy. The program has no valid social purpose.
All that has to be done to fix the situation for those kids is to 1. Get the schools to stop having such ridiculous requirements. 2. Get them access to clean water and healthcare. Shoes aren't even on the list, they are a "luxury" item that is HARMFUL to use, worse for your body than smoking 2 packs a day.
I love youtube, I love the fact that people are out there doing interesting things and showing the world. It is a great place for people to make money and create content. But it still annoys me every time I see somebody who doesn't have the slightest clue what they are talking about blather on about topics on which they know literally nothing.

So basically what we have here is a girl who thinks she's saving the world, when in fact all she's doing is endangering her own health and safety (and encouraging others to do the same) in order to provide free advertising for a profit-seeking company that charges $58 for a shoe that costs about $4 to make, which gives them to people in poor countries, taking business away from local shoe stores and hurting their economy?
