Just don’t get back into vinyl it is the biggest waste of money right now. Especially if you can’t afford to spring for a 4-figure turntable and matching electronics. If you wanna collect for fun, give it 5-10 years for the market to tank. If you wanna collect for music’s sake, get into CDs. Cheaper, take up less space, and good quality CD playback can be had in the 3 figure range.
@@ChrisStoneinator Many thanks for your perspectives Chris. I really don't intend to get 'back into' vinyl and do collect CDs, but rip them to FLAC for streaming source. Watching this video from Zagreb, Croatia!! 😃 Can't believe this thing is so expensive, when you can get so much better turntable for 349! Unfortunately, they don't sell Fluance tables in Europe, but I got myself an Audio-Technica AT-LP5x for €320 so also about $350, and it's so much better in quality than this cheap orange thing from JBL.
@@UnitedStatesofAnalog Hi! Records are easy to get since we have a good amount of record shops around the country. The majority of pressings come from Yugoslavia because back in the 80s we were making our own pressings of pretty much all albums from UK or US, but we can also easily get some good quality german pressings!
Hello Bob, new subscriber after your guest appearance on Cheapaudioman!! I'm from West Yorkshire, England. Can't believe the bad quality and price of the turntable. A.T LP5X,Denon dp400,Fluance 83, equivalent prices of project, rega, etc. Of course,if this turntable is sold here,it could be more expensive.
Plastic is what I look for in an audiophile turntable. I love the sound it makes when it resonates. Just like that platter that rings like a bell. Magic to my "full of crap audiophile" ears. Besides, this is JBL, built by Harman. A trusted audio company. Owned by that pillar of quality, Samsung.
Loving the channel so far. Love the set up. Love how you are not one of the snooty hi-fi UA-camrs that are like "if this piece of gear cost less than $500 then it's junk". Some of us just want to hear our old dusty records at an economic but worthy pricepoint!
A friend of mine has this turntable as part of a secondary system running through a vintage Pioneer receiver from 1979 into a set of 3-way JBL speakers. The turntable was a gift. He added the acrylic platter as demonstrated here and switched the cartridge to an Ortofon 2M Blue. While I agree the exterior looks cheap, I thought the turntable sounded very good. The music had nice detail, the soundstage was immersive. No sound quality issues that I could notice. However it has the look and feel of a turntable about $100-$150 cheaper in my opinion. Even the orange color looked a bit cheap for some reason. For me that was distracting. If someone is on a $400 turntable budget, I'd still recommend either Fluance or U-Turn. What JBL did wrong is the price. They're charging for their name. It's a nice turntable but not a $400-Nice turntable.
I don't doubt it. But the Blue could make any table sound good and that was a $250 add on. Now we are at $650 plus mat or whatever? Imagine the table you could buy for $700! Anyway... it started as a gift so he had to make something out of it ... good for him! Glad it worked out! Thanks for the comment and the watch!

Hi Bob, Hi from Leigh-On-Sea, not a million miles from RAF Lakenheath. Found your channel after the Naim Atom review. Love your reviewing style, funny and direct. Wish you every success with the channel…
Hi, Ontario! Good to know I have a sub in the Great White North. People are always on my back because I don't listen to Rush! Which album should I start with to hook me?
Good spin on the review (see what I did there). Got my daughter an RT80 on sale for about half that price for her first turntable for Christmas. Excellent for the intro to her own lp collection, although I did sincerely apologize for starting her on a lifetime of crate-digging, expense and inconvenience in acquiring her music from here on out 🎶
Easy to do when you have to buy most of the stuff you review! But it gives me NO joy to pan something. There is nothing better than getting something that is better than what the price indicates! This is the opposite of that, unfortunately! Thanks for weighing in!

Thanks for the review. I had a feeling it was crap, but the orange platter has an interesting look. Is that a Thin Lizzy "Jailbreak" graphic behind you? If so, where is it from?
The Jim Fitzgerald black and white art prong came in the Vinyl Me Please Jailbreak reissue a couple of years ago. The disc was a nice orand swirl too. Great package! Good eye!
Awesome review!! The light mood, fun vibe, and comedic relief is refreshing. It all just keeps me watching regardless of the “thing” being reviewed. New subscriber and looking forward to more. Cheers. 🍻

No real place to use them lately as they were originally for our little bar in Quebec but for the last 9 years they only get pulled out for our annual Halloween party and they still fill a hall with 120 people like they always have and sound fantastic doing it.
Hello from Cardiff, Wales. What were JBL thinking charging 399 for this? At half that it may be worth a punt for someone wanting to get into vinyl on a low budget, but that toy cartridge....! I like what you do, keep up the good work!
Thanks to your great land we got Tom Jones! My first vinyl ( given to me by my parents in the 60s) was Tom Jones Live in Las Vegas! It's got a great version of hard to handle! Spread the word of USof A in Wales! Thanks!
I live about 3 miles from where Tom was brought up (Treforest, Pontypridd) he used to frequent my local pub occasionally in the 80's. Don't forget the Manic Street Preachers, Stereophonics, Super Furry Animals etc. etc lots of good music came out of Wales. 😃👍@@UnitedStatesofAnalog
Hey uncle Bob good video!!! I do like the way it looks but that's it. I'm waiting on a Fluance RT85 to be delivered hopefully by the end of the week. Very excited. That JBL can't compete with it no way. Like what you do Bob keep it up!!!
It's a blue tooth turntable McFly , by definition the compression used in blue tooth sound is not audiophile. it's a beginner turntable , factory priced to be discounted , and asking if it is an audiophile product seems to intentionally misunderstand the product. However, since human hearing is so subjective, if you think something is audiophile, it is, if you hear it that way.
The orange platter would match my JBL Speaker grills but it looks very cheap low end. But I'm curious about all the other new JBL Amps, Streamer, the and CD player as well as the better turntable model TT350
I wouldn't buy any JBL at retail. The prices always come down! Outside of some really great speakers, I can't figure out who the are trying to appeal to! Thanks for watching!
"Pingy-Ringy"... love it. I quite like the orange colour but that it. JBL still makes great gear but they surf too much on their own brand name so they are getting sloppy. Watching you from a tiny village near Nantes in France. Your videos are very good, very entertaining and I dig your accent!
@@UnitedStatesofAnalog Perhaps... it seemed to me that it was essentially a Fluance-like turntable, but with a plastic plinth instead of wood veneer plinth as a tradeoff for Bluetooth functionality. Have you tested with a midrange MM cartridge? I mean something like a 2M Blue/VM540ML/MP-150? Especially the VM540ML is very good at exposing things like inconsistent antiskate, tonearm bearing quality and rumble.
Bother me next time! I bought the 1st Yes album. I was re-mastered by Kevin Gray... but it sounded like hot trash. Oh well! Seriously... stop me next time!
Hello, I'm watching your video from São Paulo Brazil. Thank you for your video, I gave up buying the JBL record player after your criticism. It would be my entry-level product, I think I'll buy the Audio-Technica AT-LP120XUSB
Hi from Istanbul Turkiye 🇹🇷 nice vid, already had it as a starter. Cartridge is very low quality, connectivity is satisfactory with my Samsung home theater system. Definitely will replace it with a real Turntable after watching some of your suggestions.
mic running a tad hot fyi. also JBL has a more audiophile line "the classsic" line, intergrated amps and sources like cd / turntable. that is the line to look at yet it does cost alot more....the 250-500 dollar price point is just ruled by UTURN and FLUANCE and for good reason
India Looking to get my first turn-table, Hi-Fi ish. Have a pair of AudioEngine A5+ with S8, Looking into AT-LP70XBT with the AT-VM95ML Cartridge Not Sure if it al plays well together. I am still researching.
Edinburgh, Scotland Not had a turntable in 10 years. The ones I have had in the past have all been from the 70s and 80s and purchased from thrift stores.
I am curious how the jbl compares to the house of marley stir it up non bluetooth. They seem to have similar build and specs, but the stir it up is only $129.
I suspect the Marley turntable, with its bamboo plinth, is probably better built than the JBL overall. Certainly less plastic. Marley prides itself on using natural and renewable materials when possible. My wife has Marley headphones which make her look like a rear gunner from a Lancaster bomber in WW2. A very attractive rear gunner, mind.
I’m a fan, given a difficult path you have to tread in reviewing product/s not worth their launch price. JBL will have better markets to serve, and that has been clearly established. Written in Melbourne, Australia!
Just needs a better cart! A $25 cartridge on a $400 table. That makes NO sense. It must be aimed at consumers who have no awareness of what makes something sound good! Thanks!
Yeah... I don't doubt he squeezed better sound out of it. But the Blue is $250 or more. Now you're at $650???? But I realize it started as a gift so... Thanks for the comments!
It will end up in a highschool kids room. Because it (sort of) looks cool. But it will (edit) never be used. 2 yrs at RAFL, hobby shop no longer there lol. Just the bx. Or px.

the L100's are not a big deal. Back when they were popular it was because they were cheap, very good examples of the west coast sound, and they were strong, capable of the abuse that happed when they got cranked up to the moon by stoners. But they were easily surpassed by just going up a bit in the product line, for example, the L65's were a far superior product.
@@richardelliott8352 right on! Thanks for the info. They’d certainly have to be very impressive to be compelling for the current price. Sounds like the value may not be there. I’ve got some mint JBL L1 bookshelf speakers from the 90s that we used as surround speakers for a very short time in my childhood home. They sound pretty darn good to me still in my 2 channel rig.
Bob, I’m mid video right now. $399 is too much doh rae mee for that plastic piece when you can get Fluance RT-8X which are really good. There’s an AT turntable for $129 might be just as good.
Weep weep as a vintage Jbl fan im puzzled by this unit too. For kids or beginners yeah certainly. Their higher priced turntable looks far better .. waiting for a comprehensive review. Its over $2000 here in Australia. I too had the L100 dream as a kid ... got a second hand pair for $500 plus a trade in for memory then had to do some work on them and found another pair in a roadside ckeanup ....no joke. Anyway they are good. The L112 that came along early 80s fixed up some of the flaws in the L100. Better tweeter and better woofer for much higger power handling. I use my pair regularly. Today Jbl have the L100 classic that retailes for ready....$8500 Australian Dollars.... not Usa made sadly. Its only pushed up the value of the real Jbl stuff. I did buy their first Synchros 700 headphones at $400....alloy backed and of decent quality.. the later over ear headphones they made were not to my taste. You are right a big company not always doing their research . Many high quality companies go way down market to get sales but does it add prestige to a once mighty company built on the highest standards. Again i agree on your comments on the cartridge and the terrible lid. The $4500 Denon DP3000 has a terrible lid that looks very similar to this lol....only bigger. Made by Hanpin in China. Many products made in China are good its how they are made .. everyone worldwide deserves an income and these people only work to the standards set by the company they work for. Look at Topping and SMSL great DAC components for a good price.
Thankyou. I get your desire for Mac Intosh too. A mate of mine is an expert at tube repair and he only likes their vintage stuff. I would buy an MA1200 if I had $30000 of our puny dollars lol. Heard it on Klipsh Cornwalls at a good local shop. The Big Mac is no master of resolution but it gets locked into the music and provides enjoyment. Plenty of power on tap at 300 watts into any load. And tube pre with dial eq. What's not to like. I love the Mc 275 and the Other 60s mono block amps too. Of course the great full dead MC 2500 with the old round top meters and two tone face. On this real planet we live in for us value hunters vintage Adcom is a favourite of mine. Sold it at one stage part time. The GFA 555mk2 is as far as I know a Nelson Pass design. Pass Labs gear is great but again who has the money today on a normal income. I bought a GFA 555mk2 for $400 with a white face on 120volts ....my tech knows his stuff and he said it's a good amp.

Thanks! I really appreciate your support! If it wasn't for your great nation we would have never gotten THE BAND!!! Thanks for all your support!
Hi Bob, Hi from Leigh-On-Sea, not a million miles from RAF Lakenheath. Found your channel after the Naim Atom review. Love your reviewing style, funny and direct. Wish you every success with the channel…
Thanks!!! Miss Jolly ol' England!
A good honest review. You've just saved someone 399.00 dollars.
At my own peril! Now I fear for my life! Now I know how Woodward and Bernstein felt!
Hello from Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Love your review style. It’s like hanging out with a buddy at his bar.
Hi, Ontario! Good to know I have a sub in the Great White North. People are always on my back because I don't listen to Rush! Which album should I start with to hook me?
@@UnitedStatesofAnalog I would start with Hemispheres with the song La Villa Strangiato. Then you can graduate to 2112. Happy listening!
Good spin on the review (see what I did there). Got my daughter an RT80 on sale for about half that price for her first turntable for Christmas. Excellent for the intro to her own lp collection, although I did sincerely apologize for starting her on a lifetime of crate-digging, expense and inconvenience in acquiring her music from here on out 🎶
"That which does not kill us, makes us stronger!" It's a teachable moment!

Sandomierz. I like you channel you very honest with you reviews.Keep that way
Easy to do when you have to buy most of the stuff you review! But it gives me NO joy to pan something. There is nothing better than getting something that is better than what the price indicates! This is the opposite of that, unfortunately! Thanks for weighing in!
Hi Bob, I'm Ivan from Guadalajara México. I am a new subscriber, I found your channel thru the cheap audio man and I need to say that both channels are great and a great value for the audio (in general) community

Uncle Bob! Just to make sure your stay warm and fuzzy, I’m and Irishman living in and watching from Athens, Greece. So, maybe that counts as 2 ticks? I’m only subscribed a few weeks, but love your videos. Keep up the great work.
Thank you so much! I've been to Ireland 5 times and each time was better than the one before! Hello to Greec too! Slainte'
Love the placement of your mic on your shirt. Great vid, you absolutely saved me from spending my hard earned on this. I will wait and save up more for something better. Viewing from Queensland, Australia.
Glad I could help!
Ay man I appreciate the review, I'm watching from up North bro, from Finland. I don't know if you have had anyone from here comment but people always find it interesting to know someone from up here is watchin too!
Just dropped a 📌 in Finland! Appreciate you!
I never heard of JBL turntables ever - learn something new daily👍
They should stay in their lane! But what do I know!
Im from New Zealand. First time viewer
I hoped you subbed me NZ! I don't want to start an international incident!
Hi I’m Leo , always checking your videos! From México City 🇲🇽, thanks and congrats
Hey, thanks for being here. Everyone is telling me Mexico City is the place to go!
Good eye!
@@UnitedStatesofAnalog Oh. Yeah, I have that one! Big Thin Lizzy fan.
The only bad thing about turntables is the cost of vinyl to put on them.
You might have a point there. I'm definitely cutting back in 2024! Thanks for watching . Please sub me even though you don't like vinyl!
@@UnitedStatesofAnalog already have!
Great review as always. You might want to reconsider the placement of your lavaliere mic though...
Yeah. I haven't been happy with the DJI lab. We will continue to work on it!
@@UnitedStatesofAnalog ha, I wasn't taking about the sound, it was blocking the "og" on your t-shirt for most of the video 🥺
So for da money what’s the best turntable to buy

We actually still have a set of Anthems in the basement that I'm going to want to try out with this if I get my hands on one anytime soon. LOL
That 2 Ontarios for me in one day! How do you like Anthems?
@@UnitedStatesofAnalog I love, love, LOVE those old beasties.

Pairs nicely with Cerwin Vega speakers. Safety orange. What good is harsh without volume?
Exactly!
I don't use the Bluetooth for evaluation! This turkey is way over priced!
Any good option as turn tables with bluetooth? At same price? Any recommendations?

I didn't know I had an accent. It's not Texan and it's not New York. It's just Bob! Never been to France!

Okay, that one looks fun, but I'll stick to my SL-1200G with SME V arm.
Nice country you've got there - greetings from The Netherlands.
Oh btw, I think they included such a cheap cartridge as a freebee, with the idea that the owner will upgrade it anyways.
Wow... so much love from the Netherlands today. I think you SHOULD stick with your set-up!!!
@@QoraxAudiomaybe... but the table isn't close to being worth $399 with or without cart
I was about to buy this, thank goodness i listened to this video first, so i can aim to get something much better.
Hey Bob, saw you at Ed of an Ear today. You looked busy so I didn't want to bother you. Hope you picked up some col records.

Hi from Istanbul Turkiye 🇹🇷 nice vid, already had it as a starter. Cartridge is very low quality, connectivity is satisfactory with my Samsung home theater system. Definitely will replace it with a real Turntable after watching some of your suggestions.
Hi,,Craig from a little village in the UK....A regular viewer...Not far from Lakenheath..
mic running a tad hot fyi. also JBL has a more audiophile line "the classsic" line, intergrated amps and sources like cd / turntable. that is the line to look at yet it does cost alot more....the 250-500 dollar price point is just ruled by UTURN and FLUANCE and for good reason
Thanks for the audio notes. Sounded fine on my MacBook, but for some reason the unboxing was over driven with my DJI wireless lavs.

Not had a turntable in 10 years. The ones I have had in the past have all been from the 70s and 80s and purchased from thrift stores.
Appropriate for Halloween
Spooky!
I am curious how the jbl compares to the house of marley stir it up non bluetooth. They seem to have similar build and specs, but the stir it up is only $129.
I show it a 199! But it looks like the same bargain cartridge part. I guess it would sound similar for $200 less! That one is on back order!
The one with Bluetooth is $199, without is $129. Either way seems to have similar specifications at a lower price.
Thanks for watching from Australia! I'm sure JBL will survive somehow despite my review!
I was a little shocked when you said $399.. $125 maybe 🤔

@@UnitedStatesofAnalog yeah, I think I just called it the commissary. AF is where/when I learned that all new movies and CDs are released on Tuesdays. Busy day at the commissary. About 20 yrs ago for me. As active duty, not dependent. Now in DFW, but sort of miss England and the pubs.
This one isn’t for me, but their new CD350 and MP350 look interesting on the digital side of things. And I’d still love to hear some L100s someday…
Interesting company and marketing! L100s are great rock speaks, but they definitely have their own flavor!
the L100's are not a big deal.

Really great comments!!!! Thanks for weighing in! I wish I would find some L100s on the side of the road!
