Bob, you brought back so many memories. I remember going to the Navy Exchange in Japan in 1978 and spending hours looking at the monster receivers and drooling over the JBL Century L100 speakers that I couldn't quite afford. Good memories.
I agree with you. The most confusing thing about this product is the price. It looks to be in the same league as the Audio-Technica LP60x BT and the Sony PS-LX310BT; however, both of those are around $200.
Watching this video from Zagreb, Croatia!! 😃 Can't believe this thing is so expensive, when you can get so much better turntable for 349! Unfortunately, they don't sell Fluance tables in Europe, but I got myself an Audio-Technica AT-LP5x for €320 so also about $350, and it's so much better in quality than this cheap orange thing from JBL.
@@UnitedStatesofAnalog Hi! Records are easy to get since we have a good amount of record shops around the country. The majority of pressings come from Yugoslavia because back in the 80s we were making our own pressings of pretty much all albums from UK or US, but we can also easily get some good quality german pressings!

Just don’t get back into vinyl it is the biggest waste of money right now. Especially if you can’t afford to spring for a 4-figure turntable and matching electronics. Cheaper, take up less space, and good quality CD playback can be had in the 3 figure range.

I moved here one year ago and brought with me a few pieces of gear. The Yamaha avr I brought was destroyed either by customs looking for drugs or by a drop. My 2 Energy Connoisseur speakers arrived slightly battered but ok. As did my Sony dvd/cd player. Since then I've replaced my Yamahe avr with the Yamaha RX V4A, now connected to my Energy pair front with Polk RT51i in the rear and a Jamo center. Still need to buy a TV, so I haven't tested it yet. Music is good through the fronts, though. I also purchased a Cambridge CXA 81 connected to a pair of Elac DBR 62s. Two vintage amps, Yamaha CA 400 with Sony CSS C5s and the "Mac killer" or so they say, Sony TA 1150 currently with my Polks. I also have the Fosi V3, Topping D3X Pro Plus its my Fosi BT20a Plus, also hooked to my Sonys. I gave a Jamo 260 sub I have yet to hook up. I'm waiting for the Fosi VA 3 and SMSL-SU1 to arrive. I also have the Wiim Pro and Geshelli Labs J 2 with AKM 4493. Crazy, huh. I went on a shopping spree this year. I apologize for this lengthy reply.
It disappeared! Haha As far as my setup here, I actually have several. I have a surround set up, even though I still need to purchase a TV, that consists of a Yamaha RX-V4A, a pair of Energy fronts, Polk RT 51i rear, Jamo center and Jamo sub as well as a nice Sony DVD/CD player. I also use my Polks with my, as they used to call it, "Mac killer" from the 70s, the Sony TA-1150. I also have the Sony PS-LX5 turntable in this setup. Along with that, I have the Cambridge CXA-81connected to Elac DBR 62 speakers with the Sony UBP-X800M2 bluray/DVD player for my CDs. In my bedroom, connected to my Sony CSS-C5 speakers, I have a vintage Yamaha CA-400 as one system and a combination Topping DX3ProPlus with Fosi BT20APlus as the other system. I just use Bluetooth for one and a Samsung bluray source for the other. I also have the Fosi V3. I still need to finish connecting with my Wiim Pro and Geshelli J2 Dac. I just got the SMSL PS100 and SMSL SU-1. And a Fosi VA3 is en route. When I arrived here, all I had was a different Yamaha avr, a nice one, that was destroyed coming through customs, my Energy speakers, and my Sony DVD/CD player. They made it safely with only minor damage to the speaker enclosures. So that's when I went crazy and bought everything else in the year I've been been here in the Philippines. I think I'm a confirmed audioholic now. .

Hey uncle Bob good video!!! I do like the way it looks but that's it. I'm waiting on a Fluance RT85 to be delivered hopefully by the end of the week. Very excited. That JBL can't compete with it no way. Like what you do Bob keep it up!!!
Good spin on the review (see what I did there). Got my daughter an RT80 on sale for about half that price for her first turntable for Christmas. Excellent for the intro to her own lp collection, although I did sincerely apologize for starting her on a lifetime of crate-digging, expense and inconvenience in acquiring her music from here on out 🎶
A friend of mine has this turntable as part of a secondary system running through a vintage Pioneer receiver from 1979 into a set of 3-way JBL speakers. The turntable was a gift. He added the acrylic platter as demonstrated here and switched the cartridge to an Ortofon 2M Blue. While I agree the exterior looks cheap, I thought the turntable sounded very good. The music had nice detail, the soundstage was immersive. No sound quality issues that I could notice. However it has the look and feel of a turntable about $100-$150 cheaper in my opinion. Even the orange color looked a bit cheap for some reason. For me that was distracting. If someone is on a $400 turntable budget, I'd still recommend either Fluance or U-Turn. What JBL did wrong is the price. They're charging for their name. It's a nice turntable but not a $400-Nice turntable.
I don't doubt it. But the Blue could make any table sound good and that was a $250 add on. Now we are at $650 plus mat or whatever? Imagine the table you could buy for $700! Anyway... it started as a gift so he had to make something out of it ... good for him! Glad it worked out! Thanks for the comment and the watch!

Hi from Istanbul Turkiye 🇹🇷 nice vid, already had it as a starter. Cartridge is very low quality, connectivity is satisfactory with my Samsung home theater system. Definitely will replace it with a real Turntable after watching some of your suggestions.
The orange platter would match my JBL Speaker grills but it looks very cheap low end. But I'm curious about all the other new JBL Amps, Streamer, the and CD player as well as the better turntable model TT350
I wouldn't buy any JBL at retail. The prices always come down! Outside of some really great speakers, I can't figure out who the are trying to appeal to! Thanks for watching!
"Pingy-Ringy"... love it. I quite like the orange colour but that it. JBL still makes great gear but they surf too much on their own brand name so they are getting sloppy. Watching you from a tiny village near Nantes in France. Your videos are very good, very entertaining and I dig your accent!
Hello, I'm watching your video from São Paulo Brazil. Thank you for your video, I gave up buying the JBL record player after your criticism. It would be my entry-level product, I think I'll buy the Audio-Technica AT-LP120XUSB
@@UnitedStatesofAnalog Perhaps... it seemed to me that it was essentially a Fluance-like turntable, but with a plastic plinth instead of wood veneer plinth as a tradeoff for Bluetooth functionality. Have you tested with a midrange MM cartridge? I mean something like a 2M Blue/VM540ML/MP-150? Especially the VM540ML is very good at exposing things like inconsistent antiskate, tonearm bearing quality and rumble.
Edinburgh, Scotland Not had a turntable in 10 years. The ones I have had in the past have all been from the 70s and 80s and purchased from thrift stores.
It's a blue tooth turntable McFly , by definition the compression used in blue tooth sound is not audiophile. it's a beginner turntable , factory priced to be discounted , and asking if it is an audiophile product seems to intentionally misunderstand the product. However, since human hearing is so subjective, if you think something is audiophile, it is, if you hear it that way.
I’m a fan, given a difficult path you have to tread in reviewing product/s not worth their launch price. JBL will have better markets to serve, and that has been clearly established. Written in Melbourne, Australia!
Yeah... I don't doubt he squeezed better sound out of it. But the Blue is $250 or more. Now you're at $650???? But I realize it started as a gift so... Thanks for the comments!
Bother me next time! I bought the 1st Yes album. I was re-mastered by Kevin Gray... but it sounded like hot trash. Oh well! Seriously... stop me next time!
mic running a tad hot fyi. also JBL has a more audiophile line "the classsic" line, intergrated amps and sources like cd / turntable. that is the line to look at yet it does cost alot more....the 250-500 dollar price point is just ruled by UTURN and FLUANCE and for good reason
I am curious how the jbl compares to the house of marley stir it up non bluetooth. They seem to have similar build and specs, but the stir it up is only $129.
I suspect the Marley turntable, with its bamboo plinth, is probably better built than the JBL overall. Certainly less plastic. Marley prides itself on using natural and renewable materials when possible. My wife has Marley headphones which make her look like a rear gunner from a Lancaster bomber in WW2. A very attractive rear gunner, mind.
Thank you for the detailed review of the JBL turntable. I'm a great fan of the old JBL speakers. My L80Ts have infact brought me years of enjoiment 🙂(40 years). My Turntabe is also 40 years old (Dual Q714 with ortofon 2M blue) of cousre ther are better ones today but I bet the JBL is not. Greetings from Düsseldorf, Germany.
Bob, I’m mid video right now. $399 is too much doh rae mee for that plastic piece when you can get Fluance RT-8X which are really good. There’s an AT turntable for $129 might be just as good.

I live about 3 miles from where Tom was brought up (Treforest, Pontypridd) he used to frequent my local pub occasionally in the 80's. Don't forget the Manic Street Preachers, Stereophonics, Super Furry Animals etc. etc lots of good music came out of Wales. 😃👍@@UnitedStatesofAnalog
Great review as always. You might want to reconsider the placement of your lavaliere mic though...
Yeah. I haven't been happy with the DJI lab. We will continue to work on it!
@@UnitedStatesofAnalog ha, I wasn't taking about the sound, it was blocking the "og" on your t-shirt for most of the video 🥺
Hey uncle Bob good video!!! I do like the way it looks but that's it. I'm waiting on a Fluance RT85 to be delivered hopefully by the end of the week. Very excited. That JBL can't compete with it no way. Like what you do Bob keep it up!!!
I like the way you think! I wish you many years of happiness with the Fluance!
So for da money what’s the best turntable to buy
From New Zealand , love the channel
Most beautiful land on earth! It an honor to have you view. Please be my 1st NZ sub!
Good spin on the review (see what I did there). Got my daughter an RT80 on sale for about half that price for her first turntable for Christmas. Excellent for the intro to her own lp collection, although I did sincerely apologize for starting her on a lifetime of crate-digging, expense and inconvenience in acquiring her music from here on out 🎶
"That which does not kill us, makes us stronger!" It's a teachable moment!
I’m warching this at Slovenia,Maribor. Keep up the good work!!!
Awesome! Thank you! Glad you've come aboard!
Any good option as turn tables with bluetooth? At same price? Any recommendations?
Hi there US of Analog. I’ve left you a couple of messages before. (Not stalking you though). I’m in Hingham UK, half an our down the road from lakenheath. In fact my eldest daughter is married to a usaf service man from Colorado (he’s lovely which I really wasn’t expecting),she met while he was based at lakenheath. There’re in Japan for now. All the best, Giles
Hey, Giles! I read all my comments at this point. Appreciate you saying hi! I miss my days in England! It's where I discovered hi-fi and rock and roll (pirate stations). Thanks for your support!
I never heard of JBL turntables ever - learn something new daily👍
They should stay in their lane! But what do I know!
It’s your mate watching from Perth, Australia.!🇦🇺
Welcome, Perth Buddy! Glad you're here!
A good honest review. You've just saved someone 399.00 dollars.

Hello, from Austria, Graz. I like your Channel and the review Style. 20:34
Hey, thanks!
Pairs nicely with Cerwin Vega speakers. Safety orange. What good is harsh without volume?
Exactly!
I,am watching from a little town called Assen in the Netherlands [ Europe ] and i,am a great JBL lover !!
2people from the Netherlands today! Maybe I should visit there! Sound like we would all get along!
Sarnia, Ontario, Canada here Bob so yes sir, you're international my friend.
We actually still have a set of Anthems in the basement that I'm going to want to try out with this if I get my hands on one anytime soon. LOL
That 2 Ontarios for me in one day! How do you like Anthems?
@@UnitedStatesofAnalog I love, love, LOVE those old beasties. No real place to use them lately as they were originally for our little bar in Quebec but for the last 9 years they only get pulled out for our annual Halloween party and they still fill a hall with 120 people like they always have and sound fantastic doing it.
Hi from Istanbul Turkiye 🇹🇷 nice vid, already had it as a starter. Cartridge is very low quality, connectivity is satisfactory with my Samsung home theater system. Definitely will replace it with a real Turntable after watching some of your suggestions.
I was about to buy this, thank goodness i listened to this video first, so i can aim to get something much better.
Ol Uncle Bob knows all the tricks.

Hello. If this JBL compared with Audio Terchnica 120X-USB which is the better choice? (I am from Kyiv, Ukraine)
Personally I'd go A-T
New subscriber here ! Hi from San Juan , Puerto Rico.

Nice review. Greetings from Istanbul, Turkey.
tuning in from the Philippines
The orange platter would match my JBL Speaker grills but it looks very cheap low end. But I'm curious about all the other new JBL Amps, Streamer, the and CD player as well as the better turntable model TT350
I wouldn't buy any JBL at retail. The prices always come down! Outside of some really great speakers, I can't figure out who the are trying to appeal to! Thanks for watching!
I like watching your video's. I am from the Netherlands and living in Nijmegen. My turntable is a rega planar 3 50th anniversary edition.
Good choice of turntable my friend.

@@defcreator187 is the "son" a newer version? 😉😂
That is a SWEET table!!! Thanks for checking in from the Netherlands! I hat speakers do you rock!
"Pingy-Ringy"... love it. I quite like the orange colour but that it. JBL still makes great gear but they surf too much on their own brand name so they are getting sloppy. Watching you from a tiny village near Nantes in France.
Your videos are very good, very entertaining and I dig your accent!
I didn't know I had an accent. It's not Texan and it's not New York. It's just Bob! Never been to France!
Hello, I'm watching your video from São Paulo Brazil. Thank you for your video, I gave up buying the JBL record player after your criticism. It would be my entry-level product, I think I'll buy the Audio-Technica AT-LP120XUSB
Good plan! I hope you got it!
The only bad thing about turntables is the cost of vinyl to put on them.
You might have a point there. I'm definitely cutting back in 2024! Thanks for watching . Please sub me even though you don't like vinyl!

Okay, that one looks fun, but I'll stick to my SL-1200G with SME V arm.
Nice country you've got there - greetings from The Netherlands.
Oh btw, I think they included such a cheap cartridge as a freebee, with the idea that the owner will upgrade it anyways.
Wow... so much love from the Netherlands today. I think you SHOULD stick with your set-up!!!
@@QoraxAudiomaybe... but the table isn't close to being worth $399 with or without cart

Not had a turntable in 10 years.
I don't use the Bluetooth for evaluation! This turkey is way over priced!

I’m a fan, given a difficult path you have to tread in reviewing product/s not worth their launch price. JBL will have better markets to serve, and that has been clearly established. Written in Melbourne, Australia!
Thanks for watching from Australia! I'm sure JBL will survive somehow despite my review!
Want to see our favorite youtuber do the Vinyl Tag 2024!
Wait... what's that this vinyl tag you speak of!
Yeah... I don't doubt he squeezed better sound out of it. But the Blue is $250 or more. Now you're at $650???? But I realize it started as a gift so... Thanks for the comments!

"End of an Ear" .... "Cool records"
Thanks for the audio notes. Sounded fine on my MacBook, but for some reason the unboxing was over driven with my DJI wireless lavs.
Greetings from Guatemala City, Guatemala
I am curious how the jbl compares to the house of marley stir it up non bluetooth. They seem to have similar build and specs, but the stir it up is only $129.
I show it a 199! But it looks like the same bargain cartridge part. I guess it would sound similar for $200 less! That one is on back order!
The one with Bluetooth is $199, without is $129. Either way seems to have similar specifications at a lower price.

Hi, from Houten- Netherlands.
I have stuck a pin in Germany for you! 2m Blue is my "go to" cart as well. Great minds think alike!
Bob, I’m mid video right now. $399 is too much doh rae mee for that plastic piece when you can get Fluance RT-8X which are really good. There’s an AT turntable for $129 might be just as good.
Sounds identical to my $200 AT Sound Burger because the have same cartridge! Thanks for watching! Appreciate your support! Don't forget to sub!

@@UnitedStatesofAnalog Absolutely right! He hunted the infamous Alpine crocodile in our mountains! 🙂🙂I currently have a TEAC TN-4D direct drive turntable
I was a little shocked when you said $399.. $125 maybe 🤔
Just needs a better cart! A $25 cartridge on a $400 table. That makes NO sense. It must be aimed at consumers who have no awareness of what makes something sound good! Thanks!
A tecnics sl bd 22 is better?
Hi I am watching you from Istanbul Turkey and I agree with you with that money spent you can easily get a Fluance or Project or even a Rega Planner 1 which will all be better choice for sure than this JBL.
