- Honda CB750 4 into 2 vs 4 into 1 Exhaust Sound comparison. This is a shorter video from the previous exhaust install episode I did that is just for the sound comparison. This is an unknown header I scored from a friend to fit my 1975 CB750 to replace the existing 4 into 2 setup. The muffler is a cheap shorty stainless reverse cone that you would find on amazon. The quality is meh but worth the low price.

No choice for me, the 4-1 is the ticket. Sound is a HUGE part of riding, that is the sound for me. The asymmetry look I also like. Great scooter, one of the best!

That is definitely not a scooter, that is a honda motorcycle with a hondamatic . So what's a called car that has a automatic? A car.
The transmission on a bike doesn't determine if it's a scooter or not… it's not a step through design .
4 to 1 just sounds so relaxing while 4 to 2 basically like there's 2 ninja 300s riding side by side.

4 into 1 is the ticket. The sound is the best. Back in the day I had a VHR 4 into 1 on my 1979 GS1000E Suzuki. One day someone stole my muffler and I had to ride with just open headers for a week or so while the replacement muffler was shipped. It sounded so good I almost didn't want to put the new muffler on. You running your CB750 with the open headers brought back that memory for me.
For me its just waaaayyy too loud without the muffler but agreed on sounding mean
The 4 into 1 gets my vote, it sounds great and that's coming from the rider of a British twin!

I like more the optical symmetry with 4 into 2. The sound of the 750 is always very good.
Nothing wrong with that. I like the optical minimalistic look of a 4 into 1. Sounds good anyway you do it though

4:1 all the way! Remember so well when George Kerker made the first 4:1 header back in early 70's for the 750 Honda, they were handmade and had that unique exhaust note so characteristic of his pipes, and they WORKED.

That 4-1 sound can not be beaten and it just makes the bike look less cluttered from the back.

4.1 all day, I remember back in 72 waiting for a lift off a workmate and this bike started up , it was the first time I saw and heard a cb750 , I couldn't believe a motorcycle could sound like that, 11 years later I bought a 750 F1.

Love the " blackout" on the rims and spokes . I get a lot of comps on my 5 spoke black outs . 4 into 1 is my favorite .
Kept it really basic with some spray paint. Spokes are probably just dirty lol

Thats an XS850 I did. 3 into 1 with a muffler similar to the one on this cb750
@@BrickHouseBuilds Ahh, very interesting. I thought 3 into 1 but not 4 stroke. A friend once had a Suzuki GT750 with an Apple 3/1. Sounded very much like that with just a little burbble on the over run like that one.........................anyway, sound great.

@@BrickHouseBuilds I'm in Australia and have just bought a K2 that hasn't run for 5 years. It runs now after carb clean but doesn't look too nice. It's original and not a barn find or basket case but now I'm wondering how much to put into it? Hmmmmm. Over here one like the bike in this video go for AU$13,000-$16,000. That's US$8,500 to $11,000. Fully rebuilt with all new OEM parts here they sell for AU$40,000-$60,000 That's US$27,000 to $40,000

The rotted out 4:4 stock pipes on my old cb sounded pretty bad ass too.
The dual 4-2 is the one I am looking to DIY now for my zr7 kawasaki...this is the only video I found of someone who actually did it with the sound comparison...
I am worried about who could modify mine to 4 to2, and make it sound a bit like a harley!!
With the crank design and firing order I don't think you could ever get it close to that v twin sound.
The 4 in 2 gets my vote.
4 in 1 "Fourever" !!! in 1988 , I used to ride a K2 equipped with 4in1 made in France , brand name Martin. Regards from France .

@JoseyWhales-ii4dk Well since the clutch was slipping at full throttle it never really got to a dangerous lean area so I never rejetted it. I do need to do that now that the clutch is fixed

It's unfortunate that camera dont quite get the complexity of the 4 into 2 sound. It is so much better in person.
I mean the same can be said with the 4 into 1 as well. On the first ride video I have a cell phone clip in a parking lot that really captures the sound well.

I prefer the 4 into 2 sound, is like more badass and the engine response seems to be faster. Aesthetically I also prefer the 4 into 2 exhaust system.

The open header was best!
Sounded mean but not useable at all. Much louder than it seemed in the video.
It seems to me the 4 into 1 sounds like a generic modern inline four compared to the 4 in 2. The 2 cans also fit more "harmonic" to the rest of the bike.
I hear ya but a sohc 750 sounds like nothing else even with a 4into1. I can pick out the sound of these with my eyes closed at bike night. All personal preference though

The starter motor works fine but I purposely never put on a solenoid and just left it kick only. Its a 1 kick bike so no need for a starter
Idk honestly, the 4:1 is "throatier" but it sounds a tad "modern", whereas the 2:1 peashooters have these distinctive kinda rugged notes !

Agreed. To a trained ear though you can absolutely pick this bike out(or any sohc4 Honda) in a crowd of modern bikes assuming all had 4 into 1 headers

@@BrickHouseBuilds I might be picking up a 70 with a 76 motor, two other motors and a bunch of parts for $700
No comment about the rideability and performance. I have a twin and a 2-1 set up is what I wanted, and I tried and tried and tried to set up the jetting and just couldn't get to ride smooth with soooo many combinations of jets and spacers. Eventually, had to re-install original 2-2 and original air boxes.. Bummer. How come you can get great tuning with BOTH? Not fair!!!
I think that comes down to the quality of the air filter, design of the pipes, and being willing to make changes until it runs like it should. It takes a ton of changes usually. Currently been fighting my XS650 and its exhaust which is a poor design for performance. In this case I have to live with 1 spot where the bike has a tiny hiccup. It has taken a ton of combos
4 into 1 sounds great. But 4 into 2 looks cool. Don't know man! It's your bike so whatever you prefer is the way!

can anyone tell me the type of engine configuration cb750 use? I have a zr7 (750cc also) but it does not sound the same as this, with the bruup bruup sound (4-1 or 4-2)
Is this engine have 2 pistons at the same angle and the other 2 at a different same angle? Or does it have all 4 pistons each at a different angle?
This is an inline 4.
@@BrickHouseBuilds the zr7 is also an inline 4, but the difference is the degree angle in the piston arrangement..and that`s what gives yours an brrrup brrrup sound :)
@xtruma inline is inline. There is no difference in how the pistons are angled. The difference will come in camshaft design, compression, stroke, etc.

I had a 4 into 2 on a CB550 back in the 70's and it was OK. But I have a CB750 now with a 4 into 1 Kerker, no comparison. The 4 into 1 wins every time. Just my 2 cents worth.

Starter works fine but I removed the cables and never put a solenoid on it as its a 1 kick bike. No need for a starter.

I prefer the original 4 into 4, but that's just me.
Just personal preferences. I never listed for the original bike as it wasn't my era. I started liking these after seeing them modified
@@BrickHouseBuilds I know that cost has to factor into the decision as well, and original 4 into 4 are hard to find and super expensive. I rode a friend's 76 750 when it was brand new in 76, it was a mind blowing experience!
I want to ride mine now, but it needs a new clutch.
The clutch on this one can't hold full throttle so I'm in the same boat. Its still able to go down the road though so I'm not in a rush
