As a Mother, and Grandmother I want to say to all of you young people what I tell my grown children, when you go hiking, or travel around the Country...
Never tell strangers who ask you personal questions like, where are you from, where are you going, how long will you be out etc.
Never answer any of the their questions "Truthfully." There are people who target those who answer their questions Truthfully.
Do not trust anyone you just met on a road trip, hiking, camping etc. Trust is "earned," and only given after you have known someone for some time and that person has earned your trust.
This is coming to you with concern, care, and the wisdom of years of experience. Go out and do al those things, but be smart! No one needs to know you're artinery. 9 times out of 10, good people will not ask you these type of questions because they themselves would never give out that information to anyone, but family and friends.
Have a great 3 day weekend everyone! 🤗😻💖😘🇺🇲🇺🇲🍻

Never ask a stranger for directions, you never know if the person you are asking, will send you to a dead end, call his buddies and they will be waiting for you. Thank God there is you're phone maps that tell you where to go. Still I Always take our map and follow it along with Google maps. 🤗😻💖

Absolutely! I tell my kids the same- always be aware of your surroundings and the people there. Never give your personal info. out and don't hesitate to call the Police if you are concerned about anything - better a false alarm than an emergency situation where you could've gotten help and didnt. Keep a weapon of some kind and a bugout bag w/ food, water, and a sleeping bag in your car, AT ALL TIMES, even if you're just out for a day trip-You just never know😊.

I grew up in the mountains of east Tennessee, in the very small town of Sunbright. I often liked taking hikes. One day i went out on a long hike. While walking up the center of a little valley i noticed a weird group of rocks, about 3 feet high. It looked like a makeshift grave or something except in the top there was a little dome of rocks with a hole to reach in, and inside it was weirdly dark. Id never seen anything like this and i was curious but it freaked me out a bit. I literally thought "this is some horror movie shit, i aint putting my hand in there" and kept walking. Eventually i turned around and started taking the same way back, you have to follow your own trail back or its easy to get lost. Never saw it on the way back even though i was looking and decided i wanted to investigate it more. Too bad we were poor and this was the early days of cell phones, wish i had a picture of it

I read Bill Bryson''s book on the Trail - Into The Woods, I think it was called??
And he talked about how he looked up stuff abput the Appalachian Trail - namely about murders and serial killers? He said in the book (late 1990s, I think?) that the official Park Service book proudly boasts that no-one has come to harm on the AT? This may (have been) true, on the Trail proper; but he says he found books telling of grisly murders that happened on the '*side* trails!

The bear story pissed me off. If they had just made some noise and put their arms in the air, the black bear would've just left. It showed no signs of aggression, and was clearly just curious. As an experienced hiker, I've encountered many a black/brown bear in the US, and they have never been anything more than overgrown, dorito-craving house cats.

Hey this isn't really a horror story but its a possibly paranormal encounter, you can see it if you go to the brown mountain light in western North Carolina.
I'm appalachian born and raised. Them lights have been there since the appalachias were a thing. I backpack a lot. I've spent bout my whole life exploring the woods. So when I backlack up to this cliff, bout a 4 to 500 foot drop. And I had a good view of the lights. It was beautiful and creepy at the same time, them lights shining all night, moving around. Now there is a little jack tale about them lights, one day a native man went missing, so the whole town went a looking for him, hence the lights. There is a gap there called deep gap, many people have went missing along that valley. Everyone who goes down there hardly ever comes back. Even found a military knife in a campfire.

the story with "maya" is kind of infuriating because obviously she didnt have a cannabis tolerance and smoked enough to make her trip out. That these people didnt recognize what was happening and try to chill her out is just ridiculous.

Stoned's stories are so worthless... I just can't take them seriously. I know , as they will be the first to become defensive as if it is some race of people S or something... Lol

It's just dumb to assume that because someone was impaired that their story has no weight. Sure, It makes the story a little less believable in certain aspects. It's hardly fair to say they are "worthless" stories though.
