- STOP your LAWN DYING when SUNNY, The best way to combat heat stress is to pre hydrate your lawn in the days leading up to the hot spell and this can be enhanced by adding something called a wetting agent.
This coats the hydrophobic conditions with a polymer which allows water to flow through

Hi everyone I moved into this cul de sac with 5 houses- newly built last October with a seeded lawn. The winter was awful and muddy. So I looked at youtube advice and follow our Daniel here. End of April I scalped and scarified, overseeded and Jacks's Magic. Now i have quite a bit of weed, but the lawn is head and shoulders above the other 4 plots. The lawn is 500 sq yards, so biggish. I also got the Scotts spreader and fertilised on a very low setting on a weekly basis- so I used 20 pounds over three spreads. As the plants only had around 2 months of sun/heat and is young, I have not used weed killer. Thanks Daniel
Daniel thanks for your advice so far this year . Managed to renovate my lawn and it looks the best it ever looked.
No heatwave here in Scotland sadly ☹️ just thick cloud and rainy days. Great video 👍
Like the multi tasking seeding off while a brew on the go!
Good to see. Brew whilst still working!
I'm going to guess and say the special guest is someone from allett and they're going to be giving you some sort of lawn legend award or a free Stirling for being such a good advert for them in your videos?! 🤷🏻♂️😁
Hey! That's my guess too!! Austin Jarrett? Anyways, I think you deserve one Daniel!
I haven't got Stella, is Carlsberg ok?
Got all excited about this heatwave you speak of. No worries in Glasgow, with forecast of 17C max and rain.
You never know. Lots of solar activity at the moment
Same here, I'm in Kilmacolm
Same here in EK
I'm actually EK too Mark. Have you sourced Jack's Magic locally? Got some on trip to Cumnock... old variety, 2 for £12.

that lawn is something else!! well done you!
We’re expecting 31-32C on Friday down south, so this is very helpful. Storms to follow at the weekend so it should get a nice drink afterwards as well
What height do you cut the lawn?
All im saying is..."I blo**y love this channel!
Got to laugh 😂😂😂😂😂😂 when u say a heat wave is expected here in Australia 🇦🇺 Tropics a heat wave must be a near death to u poms lol 😂 love the vids and keep on producing good work 👍😂
You're right. It's basically death to us. But as Daniel said, prepare your lawn with watering before the heat hits. It's been quite dry here too recently - compared to the last two years of rain and cold. Can't wait for the news to report - hottest year ever!
Hello Dan regarding my new push cylinder mower, it is a big unit at over 20 kilo and the cylinder is 46 cm wide! I find It easy to push 💪 as a final cut but would struggle if I don't use the rotary first.
Thank you for that. I don’t suppose you could ever give me advice sometimes I’m trying to find a decent wetting agent I can use on customers loans. All the ones I have seen seem to be designed for agricultural use Also trying to teach myself more about lockdown usually just do 3 to 4 feet a year and a moss treatment when needed but I’ve been watching your videos I want to up my game a lot more
Just go to east riding horriculture and buy 10 ltrs of something they have loads. Mine are in small bottles for the donestic lawn via homeowner
Hi, love your channel :) What is the model name of the water sprinkler used please? Thanks Icecy
Gardena impulse
@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert Many thanks Daniel :)

Through you inspiring me I am going to re-do my lawn from scratch by re-levelling and seeding! What height do you recommend the soil level be in relation to the patio for best results when mowing and the over all look of the lawn.
Like level with it
Wish these vids were longer, could watch you for ages👍
If they too long they take ages to upload!!
@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert Not complaining mate, 8f I could ask one question, are these two customers your only customers? Or do you have smaller lawns? Just curious on me night shift.
@@edmundblackaddercoc8522 Daniel has other customers - just check out his other videos
@@paulgriffiths531 I will ta pal
@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert he did and turned me into a raging alcoholic. Hence why he keeps them short, sweet and to the point so anyone can understand and do it.
You mentioned there were a couple of drains in that lawn. How did you cover them but still leave them accessible? I have a manhole in the middle of my lawn which spoils the look so would be good to find a way of covering it.
With a recessed manhole cover - he installed one at Steve’s job - makes a real difference to a spoilt lawn with a manhole
@@leekelly301 Thanks Lee. I’d seen that manhole at the start of Steve’s job but couldn’t find any video where Daniel mentioned what he did with it (I probably wasn’t looking hard enough!). I’d always thought recessed manhole covers were a bit rubbish as there wouldn’t be enough depth - but obviously there is. Thanks again.
Hi Daniel, best way to get rid of red thread please.
Fungicide is the only way but none around for the amateur now in uk
@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert thanks for replying Dan.
I normally cut my grass 30mm with a rotary. When it's going to be hot, is it best to cut beforehand or wait until the hot weather goes and then cut it?
Hi Daniel, when and how often can I use a wetting agent on my lawn please?
Thanks Danny
Once a month ideally
@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert thanks for your help 👍
In your complete re-seeding guide, you said that you don’t like mixing anything in with wetting agent ??
I dont like going to the drs but sometimes i have to go
It's important to clarify - do we use snooker or pool cue?
Mine was from a pool/snooker table
@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert oh crikey, a combo cue!! I need Google for that 🤣
How are you able to cover man hole covers with lawn? I thought they had to be seen and accessable at all times
Daniel can I seed and compost in this sunny weather
You can but will have to water more
Good evening Daniel i was just wondering what your Facebook group was called thoroughly enjoying your videos thank you
Hi Dan, could you send me a link for the equinox granular please? Can’t seem to find it anywhere

thought about setting up a shop - I would buy the products you use if I could.
Ihave an we ebay str check vid description
Daniel , what sprinkler are you using there (I don't mean the one on your back, but the one near the end of the video that's in the corner of the lawn.) Thanks
Gardena impulse one off amazon
Another great knowledgeable video Daniel.
Nice video 👌
What sprinkler are you using ? Thanks
He’s using a Gardena. Check their website out.
Great video! In the uk with ryegrass of a lawn is mowed and fed all correctly (including seaweed, fertiliser, Ironman and wetting agent) can underwatering be easy to cause yellowing? All the scare mongers regarding overwatering mean I’m curious if I’m too cautious ?
Yellowing is usually caused by lack
Of nitrogen or leaf spot
how can you get rid of those orange spots on the slabs?
thank you for your video, you are the best mate!
You cant
I use a bricklayers acid diluted
Autoglym Magma works
What about if I’m finding weeds are growing too fast still? Should I still pre-water or do I want the weeds to die off without water?
Pick em out with a fork, best thing I did
Hi, just followed/liked the shop on eBay. The seed that is on there (ryegrass mix) is it shade tolerant?
I currently use two types, one on each lawn. Front gets sun 6am till midday.
It is made up of fescues, bent grass and smooth meadow. I’m not really getting the results I’m after.
Rear is dwarf ryegrass and red fescue. Supposedly harder warring.
I’d like to change to an all rounder single seed type that can cope with Glasgow’s climate.
Not much of an advertisement for Purple Bricks. That house has been on the market for ages!
I know its on for 680 n the owners refused 660, crazy as in their late 80s
@A Nony Mouse i used to for about 16 yrs then one day out the blue he came out and said can you not touch ours this week, havent spoke since n that was 2016
Are these products child / pet friendly? Thank you
Of course, i wouldnt be using them otherwise
Hi Daniel. It's not a Lawn Comment, but from one Bolton lad to another I just wanted to ask are you fine & dandy ? It's just a friendly mail to you.
Yes fine hows u?
@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert Hi Dan I'm ok pal. Really enjoying checking in with you seeing what you are up to and the hot weather Lawn water posting was a great idea to get the water on. Thanks mate.
Great video, where can I buy the wetting agent, liquid feed etc that you use?
@LM AO cool, thanks
Given the current environmental concerns, I think most people view watering lawns as an excessive waste of water.
Look how the world works when it comes to rain and youll see its all recycled
What seed is used for this lawn please?
Johnson’s premier patch this one I believe
Is it appropriate to speculate on the identity of the special guest???? I’m going for “What about ye!!” 🤣🤣🤣

Would you water every day during normal summer weather?
Not everyday no but in terms of big heatwave then bigat first then just top up

Hi Daniel, I’m ready to seed my new lawn. Is it a good time to do it in this hot weather coming? Thanks!
Yeah aslong as your prepared to water without a sprinkler
@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert This might be a daft question but why without a sprinkler?
@@gss6531 because if its a new lawn you will wash the seed away with a sprinkler
Man-hole cover? He can even grow perfect grass on cast iron? Wow.
Hi
Very informative videos!😊👍
Was wondering if you could make a homemade wetting agent? I live in Denmark and cant seem to find one for use on lawns🤔
Any help will be much appreciated😊
I saw some of your lawn renovation videos earlier on in the test👍 really struggling with my lawn. Did pretty much everything you said to do and still the lawn looks unhappy 🥺 its very dry!
Start washing up and you have your answer
@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert
Will washing up liquid damage the grass?
This grass is PRG ?
Affirmative
Love the content Daniel. Having watched a quite a few videos now, I cant wait to give my lawn the over haul it needs. Can you scarify your lawn at any time of the year, I wanted to get started but feel like I have missed the boat now we’re in summer. Also I have a lot of weeds and moss and now even some mushrooms growing, I’m southwest facing so get a lot of sun. Will all this be cleaned up once I have scarified and reseeded? Cheers and keep up the good work.
Can scarify yes aslong as your willing to do the watering id spray the weeds first with weedol for lawns wait four weeks then scarify be hopefully bit cooler and bit wetter
hi Daniel
looking for a good sprayer to apply
recently purchased stellar
Prob not the best person to ask as mine is like 180 quid
Not used it personally but i saw Wilko sell a pretty large hand-held one for a pretty decent price. Even if it isn't the greatest, i imagine it should get the job done.
I bought a Faithful from Amazon seems to do the job OK for me.
@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert thankyou for replying 👍
@@Nicosh1471 thankyou for replying 👍
I work 2 weeks on 2 weeks off so keeping my lawn hydrated while I’m at work is a nightmare especially during a heatwave!😩
Get yourself an auto water timer. I bought one when I renovated my lawn in April. Brilliant, had it set to come on 3 times a day for 15 minutes.
Why does my wetting agent advise me not to spray in strong sunlight? I am guessing that Dan has to apply no matter what the weather conditions. Can't make out on this video whether it is very sunny.
You will have to ask the manufacturer of yours i can only advise on my products
@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert yes I know and completely understand. It was just a general question as I thought all wetting agents were the same. I do watch all your wonderful videos and use some of your products Dan. Love your videos, thanks.
This Aussie is genuinely curious to know what the Brits consider a heatwave. 🌞
2 days in a row of 15 degrees plus 😂
When I leave for work and I don't need to wear my coat is a heatwave.
Dan I’ve managed to get brown haze from blunt blades. I’ve now sharpened but what’s the best way to remedy other than getting a cylinder? Let it grow out?
Cylinder wont remedy it needs a rotary cut to remove
@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert I’ve only got a rotary. But I’m cutting at 28mm and can’t get rid of it

Talking of old wives tales. I read once that you shouldn’t water at night in case the temp drops and it causes rotting of the grass/plant? Any truth in that?
Never heard that but who would water in the dark? And what if it rains in the night does the grass rot then? I think its bull
@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert 😂😂 good point but sometimes I’ll get home late from work and need to water about 7/8 in the eve, so I stopped when I read that. Thanks though, I’ll water whenever I can
