Whereas so many people are wailing and proclaiming the death of Standard in view of the state of monored, you just get down to the business of showing us how to beat it, with optimism and professionalism. Bravo, good sir.
Doesnt change the fact they give monored one braincell players a lot of wins on a silver plate, i mean they reviewed the cards and thought "yeah everyone is goong to love the 3 turns max games"..... Absolutely tonedeaf.
The draw algorithm can get unbelievably silly. It's not uncommon to get silly hands over and over, repeatedly drawing the only few copies of a card in the deck... or getting no lands, or getting nothing but lands, or getting the same card 3 turns in a row, getting spells but not the creatures, getting the creatures but not the spells... meanwhile the opponent with a 240+ card deck seems to get the cards that are required in the amount that is required without having to mulligan. I wish there was a button to punch the deck when it engages in this kind of sabotage.
@@zeredj57 I doubt there's such a thing as a "monored player", I rather think that people play what works, regardless of color. I made one of these leyline of resonance decks, since they were getting very good win rates and one of them beat me in turn 2, so I obviously had to try it. But eventually the matchmaker does its thing and puts you up against opponents who have decks that work well against whatever deck you're playing, so it's back to the drawing board, find another deck that might get you decent win rates, rinse and repeat. Now I'm getting my ass handed to me by people using the bloodletter + rush of dread combo, so I'll have to try it out too... but since I don't have enough rare and mythic wildcards, I'll have to settle for a blue/white control deck based on counters and sweepers, I think.
You never quite realize how addicted you are to LVD videos until the supply stops coming in. Hope you are well and enjoying your time brother, time to watch your old draft videos!
Funnily enough, at 35:50, the red prowess player has a losing but funny play that clears the big moth demon. He could monstrous rage on swiftspear, burn together targetting swiftspear and the demon, sacrificing the role token, the scamp, and the equipment, then monstrous rage the swiftspear again to reapply the role token, before burn together resolves, for the 9th power needed.
its really interesting how much different the BO1 meta is compared to BO3. i've been playing a lot of BO# lately with a Falcon Gambit deck and not once have I seen a mono red player
It's definitely due to the fact that there's no Soul Warden effects available for 1 mana in the current rotation. You won't be able to start enabling life gain until turn 3, and by then it'd be too late against Mono Red
This is my favorite version of orzhov reanimator. Overlord of the mistmoor is a great renanimation target instead of valgavoth if the enemy has sheoldred's edict / liliana of the veil
I love this deck against red agro, also that mirror match opponent would have probably lost to red agro, because it's seem they where more Demon theme, GG LVD :)
I've been trying to make a deck like this work for myself. The problem is that if you put in "enough" removal for MonoRed, you get matched with Boros Tokens/Convoke. Take some out to diversify your removal options and you get swarmed with MonoRed and can't keep the 1for1 train going. Harvester of Misery is a good "middle ground" and is probably why he's using it in place of the white Overlord. EDIT: What's your take on Commune with Evil?
I don't get why everyone is talking about monored like it's a big deal. In mythic maybe 5% of my opponents are running monored (with or without green/black splash) About 70% are running 100+ card decks with some outright 250 and I'd like to know how to deal with those because they never mulligan and always draw the perfect answers and never get manascrewed.
Just getting into magic (well seriously trying to Ladder) and learning the different decks a bit of a challenge but I tell you what I wanted nothing more than to slap a giant moth demon on the board and this seems like the perfect way to do so I was stuck between this and mono black (might end up finishing mono black afterward) but so far I have not lost a game against mono red with this deck I am 10-0 against mono red lost one game to a midrange deck so far super good and enjoying the change of pace from my usual game of yugioh and the 99 million combo decks with 12+ negates

I remember building hate decks to deal with the latest oppressive meta deck and the MTGA algorithm promptly facing me against mirrors or actively avoiding pitching me against the current Bane of the format, I think that was the last nail in the coffin and why I haven't played arena for 3+ years now.
At first i was quite annoyed that they printed that t2 kill leyline, but watching these last two lvd videos had me thinking that maybe it will force people to try all new kinds of strategies to beat the aggro. Combo/reanimator decks with some control are good against aggro for sure.
I never criticize your decks because you make them very competitive, but i think this one can be improved to replace the overlords with Atraxa, replace the dolls with valgavoth's faithful and put at least 3 collector's vault in it. Vault is do darn powerful coz you can discard at instant speed and totally suprise your opponent next turn. I improved my win rating a lot by adding these cards and got to mythic pretty fast...
This version plays Great Door instead of Vault to accomplish the same thing. There's not a huge difference in their function, but looking at the curve of the deck I think I prefer the 3-drop with a free activation as it naturally curves into our 4-drops. Atraxa will always be a great reanimation target and often better than the Overlord, although it's not quite as future proof. Looking at winrate stats on Untapped it looks like Faithful is performing quite poorly. For a deck that can mostly ignore spot removal I don't think you want your reanimation plan to hinge on a 1-drop. If we're waiting until turn 5 there are better reanimation options.

What do you think of switching out the Anoint with Afflictions for Nowhere to Run? Seems better for the Boros Auras matchup, and it provides an additional enchantment to sacrifice to Beseech. Also can combine with smite/cutdown to kill bigger targets.
While removing Ward and Hexproof is relevant in that matchup, it doesn't always answer a creature that's already enchanted by Ethereal Armor for example. I do also like the synergy with Beseech, but I would still run 4x Anoint before adding Nowhere to Run in the current meta.
He just had the perfect cards against mono red I’ve seen this deck already a few times and always won with mono red (btw I play mono red only cuz of all the control players out there (anything with 12 or more removal/ counter spells))
Valgavoth seems to be the better reanimation target but is Atraxa still better? she draws cards so that if they do have an answer its not over and she still will kill mono red with lifelink. especially in a deck with artifacts, enchantments, planeswalkers, creatures, instants and sorceries I feel at least one copy should be considered
Not necessarily. I think the most important part is the cheap instant removal thay exiles. I think you can probably have many different win conditions that dont need to involve expensive mythics. There is lots of uncommon discard outlets available, and i think you can have good results with also some other reanimate targets that you might already have in your collection. Try out like atraxa or vaultborne tyrant if you have picked those up from your packs.
Sorry if this is a stupid question, but in general for like in person standard as well, do you think this is just a good deck? Or is the BW midrange bats better? Is this really just for the oonga boonga monored abusers on Arena?
Paper Standard will be best-of-three with a sideboard. The metagame will look a lot different and this deck is optimized for best-of-one. You can certainly come up with a version that can be strong in traditional standard.
Quick rules question, in the case of Valgavoth exiling creatures that would go into the graveyard i.e. heartfire hero / cacophany scamp as mentioned in the beginning, is that trigger not separate from dying? I thought the creature died, its death triggers happened then it goes to graveyard in which it would then be exiled instead. Why is this not the case? I thought death and change of zones triggers were separate from each other.
Those creatures technically never "died" so their abilities never trigger in the first place. "Dying" in Magic is an easier way of saying "is put from the battlefield into the graveyard", but since those creatures would move from the battlefield to exile they never actually "died". Other cards that care about creatures dying also wouldn't trigger. This is the same reason why using removal like Elspeth's Smite and Anoint with Affliction don't cause those creatures to trigger.
Valgavoth is worded as such: "If a card you didn't control would be put into an opponent's graveyard from anywhere, exile it instead" In other words, Valgavoth doesn't snatch the creature after it's already died and hit the graveyard. His replacement effect doesn't let the creature properly die in the first place. The creature is exiled *instead* of dying, therefore death triggers don't happen.
I believe the owner of the creatures decided in which order the replacement effects are applied. I remember a similar interaction with Kalitas and Anger of the Gods.
