Well, yes. Sonic fans on UA-cam have contrary opinions to the actual game community. They always said it was a conspiracy for gamers to not like those Sonic games
I hate when people have bias for a game that they think is "Nostalgic" so it's really refreshing to see someone else make fun of that, still love SA2 tho.
@@zeta09molerat I hate when people shame others for being nostalgic for something and having it be their favorite because of it. They just come off as miserable people who are utterly incapable of feeling emotions and empathizing with others they're probably also insecure about something they are biased towards because of nostalgia and need to tear down something other people like to make themselves feel better
@@ThatExistingGermanGuy I'll give it that there are gameplay and mechanical flaws that give it an artificial difficulty, but heck, I _loved_ this game as a kid. When I could pull off those challenging combos on a sonic/shadow speed stage in a flawless run, it would give me such a thrill.
@@UltraSTH Yeah. Improve the controls of the mech stages immensely by making them smoother, faster on the ground, and so that they don't control like freakin' tanks. Also, get rid of the awful enemy placement in those levels. I swear half the time it's impossible to see them coming, and then BAM! They're right on top of you! As for treasure hunting stages, just give us back the SA1 radar, which was wayyy better, and also maybe a mini-map on the bottom right hand corner of the screen, with wayfinders and radar blips for the emerald shards. You can even improve the speed stages a bit. This goes for all characters honestly, but it's more apparent with the speed characters, but just map out the controls in the game to multiple buttons. Like put the light speed dash on the Y Button (Xbox controls) and the bounce on another button. Also, give Shadow the Bounce Bracelet, because so many times have I played as him completely forgetting he doesn't have it.
When I first played SA2 on my Xbox 360 a few years ago, I originally wasn’t much of a fan since I had grown up with the boost games and was not used to how the game controlled or how the physics worked. However, after playing it again some more over the years along with playing SA1, I’ve grown to appreciate both games and how they feel and control. I’ve even grown to like the Mech and Treasure Hunting stages too. SA2 isn’t my favorite Sonic game, but it’s a solid A tier game for me.
And then, because Sega listens a bit too much in my opinion. They’re gonna go too far back in the opposite direction again. And the cycle is gonna continue on and on.
@@BlueTyphoon2017I'd say it was more of a problem with the execution of the meta era games more like less variety. Colors and generations are amazing games even though they don't have other characters to play as. Yeah it could be neat, but if they don't fit in those boost levels with their moves, why bother?
The reason the mech and treasure hunting segments aren't critiqued in the same way as the Werehog is because the SA2 levels still follow Sonic's design philosophy throughout. All these stages can be sped through and completed in a matter of minutes for experienced players. (Something that can't really be said for the werehog even with exploits being used.)
@@SFproductions1 You most definitely can't. But that depends what you mean by "quickly" because the average Werehog level takes 5-10 minutes. While a treasure hunting stage takes 3 minutes or less. As I said, without exploits it's not possible and because multiple sections quite literally lock you to a room until you defeat all the enemies.
It doesn’t automatically become better because you can actually go fast after 800 hours of playtime, there is likely a different reason, like nostalgia bias, so many of the people who say they like SA2 talk about how they grew up with it on the GameCube and have fond memories of it.
@@harrythehamster4518 That's nice, but it's just factually the case. You don't need "800 hours" to do this, it comes naturally with experience. Beyond that, the game rewards speed and actively expects you to get those lower times to get the A rank. The majority if not all of your score comes from the time. Something that's not the case for Unleashed. You're rewarded in the Werehog sections purely on how many enemies you beat, finishers and objects you destroy. Showing that the objective of those levels is fighting.
@@AizakkuAnalysis it’s not like people don’t critique the other 2/3 of the game, there are plenty of people who do, and rightfully so. Also were mech stages really designed for “going fast” as you say they are? Because all I see is slow clunky controlling mechs going through slow level design, more along the pace of a normal 3D platformer, if not slower, I would also like to note on top of that you can easily get an A rank by just holding the lock on button and releasing in all the levels, your only evidence that they were designed for going fast is that you get a time bonus for going fast, which can be mitigated by just holding down shoot button, and did they really want people to learn to go fast in treasure hunting stages by taking hours upon hours memorizing the locations of the emeralds? If so that is a poor choice in itself.
Coming from Half Life, CS:GO and sandbox games, SA2 far surpassed my expectations. I agree that the mech levels are wonky on PC but the varied gameplay made for a much more interesting experience. I played SA1 after that - didn't think it was better than 2, both are very enjoyable.
Agree. Wouldn't have liked Sonic Adventure 2 as much if it wasn't for the other styles of gameplay. People keep claiming those levels are bad and only a third of the game isn't any good but honestly they can be fun in their own unique ways, such as getting combos and locking onto many enemies in the Mech Stages and Traversing the level and climbing around as Knuckles.
Here’s some things you didn’t bring up -The button mapping sucks. There’s only two buttons utilized throughout the entire game, with a third one that _checks notes_ CHANGES WHAT THE SPECIAL BUTTON DOES THROUGH A MENU?? WHAT IS THIS, A SONIC GAME OR AN RPG?! Two buttons do the same exact thing too -The emerald locations are completely random for Knuckles and Rouge, and they’re shuffled every time you open or restart the stage -Some of the levels just suck. Mad Space, Egg Quarters, Eternal Engine, Death Chamber, Aquatic Mine, all have things I hate
@@Jasmaf True for everything tbh EXCEPT the random location If it was always the same location, there would be no exploration factor, making (most of) the stages boring af
Sonic and Shadow levels are actually pretty good. The Tails and Robotnik levels are mediocre. But the rouge and knuckles levels are god awful, take literally an hour each, and you have to find the gems in a specific order. The thing is people remember only the Sonic and Shadow levels because they played only those over and over to get chao garden items. This game is about a quarter good levels and 3/4 garbage.
I’m so glad it’s not just me. I’ve tried to learn to love SA2 like most of the fanbase seems to, and I just can’t. It’s not bad, but it’s way too flawed.
Yes exactly. I beat SA2 today for the first time since I was like 6 and I don’t ever see myself coming back. Just too many flaws and gameplay issues. Now if it got remastered, that’d be a different story.
Wrong but alright. Say what you want about the treasure hunting stages but aside from a couple issues they are simply just better than the ones in SA1. Unique level design, more open and expansive, way more items and crap to collect and find. Besides the radar being shit and some other things like some stages being way too big.
@@Goosewitdajuice317 it's a sonic game. So what ? Not all sonic games have to be the same. It was speedy to me but not all the character's have to be speedy.
As someone whose favorite character is Shadow ever since he was introduced: I want to play as Shadow. So you can imagine my hardship considering like the majority of Sonic games don’t have him playable. Last time I felt alive playing a game from this franchise was Episode Shadow dlc in forces, and his campaign in Sonic 06. Hell I even beat Solaris with super Shadow and got the S rank with him out of the 3 super hedgehogs.
People usually forget that the reason why SA2's radar can only track one emerald is because if the radar were to track all the emeralds, it would break the multiplayer mode.
@@UltraSTH Yeah, I'm still baffled why they decided to do that but when I found out, I became dumb founded by the idea. I'm wondering if it's because of hardware constraints
@@AnnieCruz_x That could be partially responsible like their time constraints didn't give them enough time to undo the coding for single-player campagins.
@@TermiHorsecity Iizuka said they worked on SA2 for roughly 1.5 years. Maybe if they had the full 2 years to make the game we might get more speed levels also. The SA2 team making speed levels make them different than other Sonic Team people.
SA2 is a game that I love so much! It’s a game that I can replay a lot. The Speed Stages are very fun to play and my favorite Sonic stage is City escape and my favorite Shadow stage has to be Radical Highway. My least favorite Sonic stage has to be Crazy Gadget I just hate the gravity gimmick and least favorite Shadow stage has to Sky Rail. The treasure hunting stages in my opinion are good. Least favorite treasure hunting stage has to be Mad Space and Meteor Herd. The Mech stages I feel like are very easy at times. The boss fights are a big improvement over SA1. The story is probably the best story in my opinion. I respect your opinion. Great video SF Productions)
How is the story good.? Sonic gets arrested a second time when he apparently did nothing wrong when he just committed several crimes such as - murder (he killed the members of the military that were arresting him in the helicopter - probably some other crimes for that, also any military mech drivers in boss fights) - resisted arrest (same helicopter scene) - several acts of property damage (piece of metal from helicopter he used as a snowboard, cars on the road, train cars, military robots, military mechs, etc) - involuntary manslaughter (there were definitely people in some of those cars in city escape. Some were even moving) - public indecency (Shoes are not enough) - some kind of traffic law (snowboarding? in the middle of the road and into incoming traffic) - theft (Those rings do not belong to him) - escaping from prison (tails and Amy also included for Prison Island) - kidnapping (When did Tails's parents agree for these adventures?) But apparently, team dark is in the wrong. For security hall, that five minutes was bullshit. Eggman just said I need to get the emeralds in fifteen minutes, but NO. I can apparently do it in five. Also if Rouge had ten minutes she could have easily escaped, but NO, Shadow needed to save her ass with chaos control. If he's going to do that just do it in fifteen minutes. Also why does Rouge 280 even exist? Also why is Tails in a mech? He should be using that weird physics defying pair of tails to fly around. If that mech is a form the tornado can take, why doesn't Tails just fly it over the stage? A good ending cannot fix a story filled with plothosed and general bullshit
@@SwiftSwelterI honestly have no clue if this is satire or not. It reads like a CinemaSins video lmao. Like, is the fact that Sonic didn't get charged for public indeceny REALLY affecting how much you enjoy the game? I mean, good on you for forming your own opinions, but this is truly one of the most bizarre takes I've ever seen.
Replayed SA2 last month and it was... frustrating. I just wish the content was a lot more well balanced in SA2, Sonic and especially Shadow feel like the tertiary gameplay style because there's SO little in the way of speed stages, Sonic and Shadow are the main draws of this game yet they're treated like the after thought. Playing up to 4 or more treasure/mech stages back to back just to get to a speed stage ain't fun. I actually did enjoy the treasure hunting stages but I modded the game to use the SA1 style radar... like it should've in the first place. Mech stages though, nah they were awful, especially Tails ones, almost made me quit the playthrough. This game has a great story, so I hope we do get those eventual Adventure Remakes one day.
You are definitely exaggerating when it comes to how long it takes to get back to a speed stage level, and they are mostly even in amount for the each playstyle. Wouldn't it be fun though if there were alternate versions to each level for each playstyle? Where you could go through a version of green forest as Tails/Eggman or Knuckles/Rouge to add more optional levels and gameplay opportunities. Anyways... I have mixed feelings on the change for the hunting stages, personally I can find enjoyment on only having a single emerald tracked, makes the levels a little longer than a single minute or two for gameplay and it's extremely rewarding to find an emerald piece without it being tracked. Nothing wrong with a little backtracking and exploring the same areas again assuming you know how to be fast playing as Knuckles or Rouge. But you are right, assuming you aren't already experienced with the hunting stages and aren't used to using hints, then having all emeralds tracked at once would make a major impact on gameplay, at least for the later levels when the map gets bigger, because backtracking without the experience to speed through the levels and without the hints to guide you can become tedious and annoying. Mech Stages are the slowest, that's for certain. While I personally don't mind the slower paced platforming and while you can still go at a decent pace even in those stages if you know how to control the character and pace yourself well, the speed isn't like with the hunting or speed stages and if you want fast paced gameplay you won't find it here. I still like them myself but I understand. My enjoyment with these levels come form combos or locking onto a large amount of enemies destroying them all at once and trying to go for a higher score. And the hover ability is fun to use in my opinion, my only wish is that you started with that because the controls feel worse without it but it's hardly an issue once you complete the game for the first time. The biggest problem to me is how the stage is designed with your health bar in mind, you are meant to take damage and it made collecting a large amount of rings impossible, especially those terrible 100 ring missions, that was the most frustrating experience I ever had. I like the health bar by itself and the idea that rings heal it over time in small amounts is completely fine for me, but they really could have done better with enemy placements and avoided having surprise traps in the levels like enemies falling on top of you, gets better when you know they're coming but would be better not to have to memorize these things for repeat playthroughs. Wish the rival fights were more difficult, with exception for the final Eggman/Tails fight because that is a legitimate challenge sometimes, better AI and more intense fights would be appreciated, perhaps even harder variants where they use more special abilities such as Shadow teleporting around when you try to homing attack him at least once towards the later half of the fights or chaos spear projectiles raining from the sky with clear indicators that you need to dodge, and using a more varied and less predictable pattern of attacks. Appreciated your opinion on the game and what you shared, you aren't hating on the game for the sake of it and have legitimate reasons. Hope you enjoyed my own thoughts on the game and these differing playstyles, with addition to a few more things or complaints I had.
The Sonic/Shadow Stages were definitely not an after thought. You just simply don't understand them because they aren't the same as SA1. They tried to make the gameplay centered around the ranking system. The better you do the better the rank, that's fun to pull off. I'm sorry but most people will say that it is
SA2 was such a disappointment, and the biggest one being I could ignore all the mechanic types I hated in SA1, but it forced you to do the Knuckles crap to go through the story in 2. The Sonic and Shadow levels in 2 were good, maybe even better than SA1's Sonic levels, but good god.
I completely agree with EVERYTHING. However. This was made during a time when Sega had no fuckin' idea what they were doing. So we gotta respect the effort
You can do that while also criticizing the game for its low points because we have to judge a piece of media for what it is and not what it could’ve been.
4:52 I agree so much. When me and my brother played through this game about two years ago, we got stuck on Death Chamber for a HOUR, because the last key was in a very stupid spot.
Dude explained it with the right words to say, in all honesty I searched for this lmao And as much as I loved SA2 back then I gotta value this guys opinion, especially since I prefer the first Adventure game
One thing I like about Sonic Frontiers multiple characters is that they all have Sonic's gameplay, They just varitate Sonic control. Amy is a more vertical Sonic. Tails is a flying Sonic. Knuckles Is a horizontal airborne character. They all play the same. Knuckles doesn't have his own treasure hunting mode. Also the Multiple playable characters aren't optional in SA1. You're have to play them to see the ending of the game. I think the character blending is better in Sa2 because you don't just play Sonic and then are left with the other shitter characters the rest of the game. Like I know you get a credits for beating Sonic Story. But you get a credits when you beat the hero story.
I understand that how many people - that many opinions, but... Isn't it better, when characters with different abilities do tasks - respectful to their abilities, and not the same platforming sections that are only slightly altered? There is a mod for SA2 that allows you to play whatever character on whatever level, and frontiers update 3 feels like if this mod was added on top of the base game. There is no unique levels for each character and no different tasks, only basic platforming, that isn't even stylised good. Proof of concept and all, but update 3 in general felt alot worse than the base game.
@@Gozan Even the same platforming sections can be done respectful a characters ability. The problem with each character being too unique is that we end up getting polarising, out of place, gameplay styles that result in awful games like sa2.
@@snakey888 And again, different opinions... I get that you don't like old 3d sonic games, but does that make them universally counted bad? Well, if it would, then there would not be such big talking point about bringing that gameplay concept in the past few years. And then Frontiers would not try to bring that style of games back, with different playstyles and wider areas to explore, only being limited by time and resources that developers really didn't had enough. It's kinda similiar to 06 incident but this time it wasn't that big of a disaster while some moments still felt more or less unfinished. I don't see problem with some people not liking certain games (really any games, not only this one) while most others just... do like them, for one reason or another, but what I really don't like and won't accept as norm is when said people try to speak for everyone and proclaim that their opinion is superior to others. This is what you're doing and what this video author didn't do.
@@Gozan Havent seen anyone to ask for that concept to return. And Frontiers does not try to bring that concept back either. If anything the concept Frontiers applies is more similar to the Mega Drive Sonic games than the sa games.
This game doesn't scratch my top 10, either. While I do enjoy quite a bit about it, it didn't do that much to resonate with me. I just kind of went through the game, and that's it. Memories help me remember games and like them more, but I don't have many from this one other than probably the bare minimum, which isn't enough for me to put this game over something like Frontiers, Generations, or S3&K.
I can rely the problems you said, but I don't get when you said some things like "unlike SA1 treasure hunter stages aren't optional here" in SA1 they weren't optional either, cause SA1 has a final story segment which you required to beat the game with all characters (and no I'm not counting mods that allow just beat the game with one character to unlock the final story, cause that are mods) anyway back to adventure 2 even when I like this game isn't perfect at all, but after playing it so many times, I always enjoy coming back to it, except for getting all the emblems, that sucks
I love this game but I don’t like the mech or treasure hunting stages. They are frustrating to complete and honestly got ruined. Knuckles and Gamma were actually fun to play in SA1 imo. I do like the speed stages in SA2, but the speed stages in SA1 were way funner to play and completely break the stages with Sonic’s speed.
Sonic games are forced to have other gameplay styles because the speed stages are very time consuming and very expensive to make and they only take a few minutes to beat because you are going so fast. A modern day 5 hour sonic game with only speed stages would be in development for 10 years which is obviously way too long. There are videos who explain it with more detail, but modern sonic games will never consist of just speed stages.
@@SFproductions1 yes, but that is a ps3 era game. Modern day games are way more time consuming and way more expensive to make. For example it is estimated that some ps5 games such as horizon forbidden west had a budget above 500 million dollars.

I first played a completed this game a week and I loved it. SA2 makes you try new gameplay styles, if you were able to choose who to play you would just play Sonic and miss out on so much, it would be a waste of money. It’s like if you’re eating a cake and you just eat the frosting off the top, like yeah sure it probably tasted good but you just wasted your slice of cake that could have tasted way better if you just ate the whole thing. But, really bro? GREEN FOREST? City Escape and Metal Harbor were right there and you said GREEN FOREST is the best speed level. “Oh no, the timer is counting down and bigger now, zoinks scoob, I’m really invested.”
LOL I enjoyed this video, but this was basically my response. I also liked the Running staged the most, for sure. But then bro said Green Forest, I was like "Green Forest?!... Ok I guess." Lol I do get his opinions, I just vehemently disagree. I don't think Sonic was ever supposed to just be about speed, but replay and exploration in order to work up to high speed. In that regard, SA2 does that some of the best in the series with stages like METAL HARBOR, CITY ESCAPE, and yes, Green Forest. Lol But that's also the reason for the "gimmicks" in some of the stages. They encourage exploration and finding the alternate paths in a game that needs to streamline the gameplay. The worst thing about this game imo is the camera. It's actually broken and terrible lol It ruins some otherwise great gameplay. Coming back to this game almost 20 years later, I actually like the mech stages more than I did as a kid. I find the platforming fun for the most part and I like the shooter style beat em up gameplay. I completely get not liking it, but I don't think it's bad. Same for the treasure hunting levels. They also have worlds in them. They have secrets, power ups to find and each has a unique ethos. I thought that was pretty fun. I also love the knuckles stages' music. I am an actual rapper, so I don't think the bars are game changers, but the vibes are dope. I will actually walking around singing Pumpkin Hill lol (Guilty Pleasure) But yeah, the strangest thing was that SF seemed to praise almost every part of the game while also saying he just didn't want to play it lol Fair assessment, if not a strange one. It's interesting that so many people agree. Lol The Internet is a wonderful place
@@dave9515 bro FF7 OG is my favorite game of all time. Currently halfway through rebirth and it’s probably gonna be one of my favorite games of all time
I heavily agree with this opinion as much. The first time when I heard people praising the Adventures games (mostly SA2), I decided to buy them on Steam but when I finally started playing SA2 before SA1…. I knew something started to get boring over time after City Escape and Wild Canyon. Also one of my main problem with the game is like: it’s doesnt follow or doesnt know the essential philosophy on whats the first game is about like for example: -Amy Rose character change in SA1 to SA2 (personally, she was more useful in the first game than the second cuz she has her own arc/storyline). -Tails being in a machine while he can just run and defend himself as Sonic And many more btw. Speed stages are good but some are very flawed ngl. Tails, Knuckles and Rouge stages 👎🏾 And on top of that, 7:28 Funny enough, I appreciate more the Eggman stages than the Tails because it’s fits to Eggman scheme archetype (since he’s a scientist, all the levels who are with technology and labs are actually fitting to his character, fast-paced and short and yeah also kinda fun 👍🏾. SA2 isn’t that bad but it doesn’t deserves a lot of praise and love what the fanbase tried to make it up to be. 6,7-7/10. It’s like more in the B- tier imo
And I can agree that the story writing of the game is really good and charming + I love the cutscenes animations, even though they’re ugly looking but still good shit in my eyes
at least the other characters in SA1 were fully fledged, functional characters. in sa2 tails is so half baked that he's a quater of gamma's sa1 gameplay
@@Leeloo-FoxxTails was very half baked in SA1 as well tho in all fairness, his Speed Highway was fun but the rest just felt like playing through Sonic’s story again except nowhere near as fun.
Your video only further shows why SA2 is still underrated. I speak as someone who played it for the first time in 2022 (no nostalgia glasses). First of all - only the PC version, because all versions except the Dreamcast have terrible cross-shaped dead zones, which can be fixed through the gamepad settings in Steam. Because of these dead zones, the character is almost completely tied to 8 directions and is unable to smoothly change direction using the stick, which is why mech stages suffer the most, since a sharp change in direction destroys your momentum, and this is precisely what mastering the physics of mech movements is all about, non-stop moving through the level while maintaining speed and collecting as large clusters of enemies as possible in 1 salvo. Also, people still cannot understand that the hunt stages are based on clues and the radar is only for initial training, the main idea is that you will read 1-2 clues and purposefully run towards the emerald shard even without the help of the radar. Yes, this will require a lot learning, but that is the design of the entire game. This game is aimed at maximum replayability. Each gameplay style is unique and has depth for constant skill improvement. Also it was funny to hear about bad cutscenes and animations when SA2, despite its technical limitations, has one of the best facial animations of the character and constantly moves and acts in cutscenes, while now 90% of cutscenes characters just stand and play standard idle animations with doll facial expressions. About loud music in cutscenes: It seems that everyone should already know about it, this is the fault of all ports of the game and, again, its can be fixed by the mod. This game is truly UNDERRATED, otherwise Sonic Team would have stop trying to reinvent the formula a long time ago and would have simply continued to develop the formula of Adventure games. I don’t want to be harsh, but if you rate the game so low (6 out of 10), then apparently you more like Sonic himself and his entertainment than his gameplay, which is fine, not everyone has the opportunity to devote a lot of time to improving a skill in the game or just wants, with a minimum of effort watch the blue hedgehog run fast and do tricks. But it can also often turn out that someone may not understand why this game is so great and form the wrong opinion about it, and then this opinion will begin to spread like wildfire, which I really don’t want. I want Sonic Team to see as clearly as possible that the Adventure formula is still the best formula we've had and in 20 years they haven't been able to do anything better, and the more people talk about it, the faster Sonic Team will realize this.
@@SFproductions1 I understand. But I'm afraid this phrase has become so standard that many people simply ignore it, and one way or another your opinion will influence people who did not understand SA2 well or did not play it at all. Unfortunately, in our time, opinions are often formed at the expense of the opinions of others. Many people just want to be part of society and agree with the general opinion (even if it's wrong) without having their own. That's why I decided to write this comment - create at least some kind of counterbalance to an opinion that is far from the truth, even if it is a drop in the bucket.
Glad to see someone sharing the same opinion on this game while explainig it, not just saying "it's hard/boring". I don't understand why some people tend to handicap their perception of the game, because it's literally what an opinion "in a sonic game I only want to play as sonic" is. Wouldn't it be better for YOU (the player) to learn and improve your skills while playing the game, instead of just setting your mind to "I cannot enjoy this playstyle because it's not sonic". I first played this game at the end of 2023, almost right after Adventure 1, and until this day (so it would be 4-5 months) I just can't stop playing it from time to time, while first Adventure I really liked but only replayed it a little bit. And what would be mind-numbing for me in this game (2 i mean) is only replaying speed stages. Shooting and Hunting stages by any means are not the "bad part of the game". They offer you a different playstyle, but the challenge is still the same - complete them as good as you can, meaning both time and score. I probably even like Hunting stages more than speed ones, because you don't just need to run from start to finish but freely explore the level, yet still, the faster you can do it - the better. Most of the time I'm just ignoring hint screens because for me it's more interesting to find the things only by radar. Also, about the problems of the port. I sure understand that not everyone knows about some game issues being present only in steam pc port, and that almost all of them can be fixed with mods. I simply got lucky learning about it before playing Adventure 1, therefore I knew that I had to do the same mod therapy for the second game. It's sad that some people first played these games in less good state that they could simply because they did not know better, but if someone knew about port problems and that they could be fixed with mods yet choosed to just not use them (despite setting up mods for these games are very easy and user friendly) then their "worse than it could be" experience is completely on them.
i think it has some sort of magic or vibe that makes the bad parts feel not so bad in the midst of the experience. it’s hard to explain, but when this game has its highs and even some of its mediocre points, something about it feels so cool. I think the overall experience makes it so good.
I'm so happy that I'm not the only one that doesn't understand the praises the game gets. I thought the game was fine. But way too overhyped and not as great as many people seemed to be. Also unpopular opinion, but I really don't like Shadow. I get he has an traversity backstory & all. But I just found him kinda bland and I'm not really an fan of edgy characters.
After watching this video again, I can definitely say that my opinion on “Sonic Adventure 2” STILL hasn’t changed since I first watched this video! I mean come on everyone, SF Productions makes some pretty good points about this game! And now I don’t want to play it for the first time ever for as long as I live! I would have to give this a THUMBS IN THE MIDDLE final verdict! This is a GOOD Sonic game BUT it’s CERTAINLY NOT FOR ME AT ALL! But I will admit that the storytelling and soundtrack in “Sonic Adventure 2” is ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE! I’m a “Gameplay > Story” type of casual gamer, deal with it! I would rather play “Sonic Adventure”, “Sonic Unleashed”, “Sonic Colors”/“Sonic Colors Ultimate”, “Sonic Lost World”, “Sonic Forces”, “Sonic Chronicles and The Dark Brotherhood”, “Sonic 1-3/Knuckles”, “Sonic CD”, “Sonic Mania”, “Sonic Superstars”, “Sonic Riders”, “Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity”, “Sonic Heroes”, “Sonic Origins” “Shadow the Hedgehog” and “Sonic X Shadow Generations” over “Sonic Adventure 2” and I’ll live and die on that hill for all I care! And I’m not afraid to say this to all the Sonic fans around the world, “Despite me loving the storytelling and soundtrack, I just can’t into “Sonic Adventure 2” because of I can’t vibe with its gameplay and I won’t play it for as long as I live!”
A problem with the game that people don’t mention is how the score system works. In final rush, when I perform a trick, if I land on a rail, I don't get points for some stupid reason. I have to go out of my way to land on a platform to get points🙄
May be a hot take, but I enjoyed a majority of the treasure hunting stages in this game. Them and the Speed stages were great aside from one of Sonic's(the gravity one you mentioned) and that one Rouge stage that takes like half an hour because the map is ridiculously big and convoluted(it's the one based in space I think? Been awhile since I've played). The mech stages absolutely suck though aside from Eggman's first level.
I first played the Dreamcast versions of the Adventure games in my childhood when they were new games,(I kept them + the console and they are all still in good condition) the difficulty in the sequel one made me like the first one more back then. Though in my adulthood for the first time ever getting through all 3 of SA2's stories in December 2022 made me be a big fan of SA2 along with the fact that Shadow became my second favorite character in this franchise beside Sonic. Silver is my third favorite one. Liking SA2 a lot easily made me get even more hyped for the upcoming third movie because elements from this game will be adapted into that movie. SA2's soundtrack is great and it's iconic main theme (Live and learn) is currently my all-time favorite song! Great that it was confirmed that that song will also be in that movie!
Oh my gosh, based video I used to be one of those people who praised SA2 as the greatest thing since sliced bread. But a few months ago, I replayed the game and i really didn't enjoy it that much.
I never got the complaint that the game forces you to play the other styles when every other 3D sonic game does the exact same thing. Even the fan favorite sonic unleashed has you play werehog stages to get the daytime ones. Same for gens and even SA1. The quality of these play styles can be debated but if we’re purely criticizing this game for being 2/3 non-sonic then I feel other games should be held to the same standard.
*I agree to some things you said. But there is something I want you to acknowledge, SF Productions.* Every few years, the internet Sonic fanbase changes. And majority opinion changes. SA2 did split the fanbase due to the treasure hunting stuff in 2001. Even Sega fansites were heavily divided. But I also want you to acknowledge that SA2 is the game that initiated the "only Sonic should be playable" thing in the meta era. As a UA-camr I would like you to at the very least acknowledge that and give your subscribers that history lesson. Because the initial negative response to Sonic Unleashed and the Werehog is directly linked to this.
As much as I love this game, I have to agree, while the story is fantastic and Sonic and Shadows gameplay are great, The rest of the levels are slow, boring and glitchy
I will say I agree with the Mech stages being unnecessary but I don’t mind the Treasure hunting since Sonic games have always been a mixture of speed, momentum, and exploration. Also Knuckles and Rouge are just so fun to play around in the wide open treasure hunting levels.
No it is not overrated. People who consider it one of the best in general understand each gameplay and accept it as it is. Sonic Adventure 2 will always be divisive for 2 reasons 1: Because it's not entirely what people expect. But at the same time because it is not what we expect it becomes more surprising and the identity of the different characters as well as that of the game is greatly reinforced. 2: Its accessibility while remaining easy to complete in addition to certain things not explaining hides an enormous depth of gameplay which can only be discovered in replayability. Just completing the story only show you through a quarter of depth of the game. The score system, for example, pushes you to make full use of your character and its gameplay. For example, it is difficult to reward the treasure hunts of Adventure 1 with a rank because they are designed as mini games, there are not really any particular methods to put in place to succeed in mastering them unlike SA2 or you must first: Perfectly know all the shortcuts of the level. They are very open in the majority but there are still faster ways to cross. Second: Searching for one treasure in several places requires you to concentrate. In SA1 I no longer know where to turn with these 3 radars whereas in Sa2 one radar at a time and more natural and there are also clues on the monitors to help you BUT which reduces your score if you take too much. So it's a risk to take if the time becomes too long to the detriment of the treasure score. And in 3minutes maximum for the A Rank I don't understand why it would be a problem to have to somehow start from scratch with each treasure especially since the game gives you a very high score for finding a treasure without it being your turn. Personally I would even be in favor of strengthening this formula by making a treasure appear only after we have found the first. The challenge starts from scratch and this requirement is more satisfying. Perhaps we can improve this formula but I find it more interesting than SA1and the fun is in the high-speed exploration. Searching everywhere hoping to find the right place. And for the Mecha even if it's basic gameplay the fact that it's easier to slow down rewards you much more when you maintain your speed and take risks by hovering above the traps while making a big score in holding a maximum number of laser targets for better rank. On the other hand, I could criticize that in the story Eggman's gliding skill comes too late in the game; it should be at the start of the 2nd level. And i Can admit the Mech stage is little too easy not bad but he doesn't force you enough played well sometimes. Another interesting aspect it's exploration. Is interesting to find secondary objects like the mystical melody for open the secret door for secondary objectives like the lost Chao where you also have to explore to find the little temples or the animals and chaos drive for you'r Chao. And all this gameplay linked by a deep story (which had a better sound mix on Dreamcast and was also more beautiful on Dreamcast, the PC ports are miserable, fortunately there are mods) We could feel each character through their gameplay and that is something that many fans love. I understand that you want Sonic gameplay to be normal to an extent but it's other characters that enrich the experience. I don't think it's nostalgia. There are games that I like less now as an adult like Heroes, on the contrary SA 2 today that I understand it even more I find it even better than when I was little I can't say Sa2 is Perfect but SA 2 it's too deep to understand in One go. (Sorry for m'y english im french) PS : an example of mastering Mech stage ua-cam.com/video/HddQYHj-7z0/v-deo.htmlsi=BSpLwMtIt-DOPzbK And treasur hunting ua-cam.com/video/mOUyPaltnM4/v-deo.htmlsi=FR1pIG-krtyLduaQ
I ain’t readin allat, but about one of the things you said about knowing the routes of the level to get an A rank, I don’t see how that applies to the treasure hunting stages since the emerald/key locations are randomized each time, so what’s the point of really learning the routes if the thing your looking for is just going to be in a different location each time
@@Shmaowzaow Please read my entire comment. I answered this and what you tell me proves that most people don't understand how to play it because its biggest flaw is that it doesn't have a good tutorial, and maybe because people make zero effort to understand... Because the emeralds are random you need to move FAST it's simple to understand... And even if you don't have the A rank the method used is FUN and FAST. Everything of value requires effort. Imagine if the tuto level begins with no emerald an if the game teaches you to quickly navigate first by teaching you to spot shortcuts in the levels you go through the environments faster and therefore if you go faster you don't waste time. For example, if you understand that in Pumkin Hill there are rockets that take you through the level much more quickly, you try to memorize their locations and maximize your chances of finding them quickly. This random side is great for renewing the experience but the method which consists of using the Clue screens as little as possible (2 per fragment maximum) knowing the shortcuts to navigate more quickly and if it is on your way pick up lives and find the gold GUN robot all this in less than 3 minutes are very exhilarating to play and you will guarantee a "A Rank". I like playing the treasure hunts as much as the speed stages of Sonic. The goal is also to go quickly but QUICKLY IN THE EXPLORATION. It's true when your begin you spend more time there but is it serious problem? Because if we don't yet know all the shortcuts we don't care about not having Rank A we use all the clues we explore it creates variety in the gaming experience I think it's positive. I understand that this is not what we expected but if we accept it we have a much deeper and more complex game than the other Sonic games. For exemple Sonic Generation is good but a superficial game, it gives everything on the surface and then nothing more unlike SA 2. AND PLEASE READ THE FIRST COMMENT IN ENTIRETY!
completely agree with this. last year i decided to 100% sa2 and while that was near torture, I felt satisfied with the game since i learned so much about it

Glad to see someone be real about this game instead of desperately parroting whatever Ruby programmed them to say. I been feeling like this game was overrated since Dreamcast.
So my main problem is that the speed stages are good at best and mid at worst, the mech stages are so boring, the treasure hunting just straight up sucks, and keep in mind, SA1 sonic stages are insanely awesome at best, and good at worst, and all the boring stuff is optional
Honestly yeah, I originally preferred SA2 But then I noticed that the only things I really prefer from SA2 over SA1 is the chao garden because there’s more to do and the gardens are incredible and Shadow HOWEVER, the gameplay in SA1 would be better (other than big’s stages 🫤) because you have a choice for what type of stages you would want to play, if I don’t wanna play the Amy or big stages, I don’t have to, I can just play the sonic ones, unless obviously I’m trying to 100% the game, whereas with SA2 you have to go though a choice of only 2 stories and both of them include at LEAST one stage that you just don’t wanna play (like the Mech stages…) also SA2 battle mode is also really cool. But personally if you want my opinion, play SA1 first, and then try to see if you can enjoy SA2’s bad stages later and you’ll see what I meam
Overrated? *NO!* Why i think that? Because in the past years i just seen people complaining about how ""bad"" this game is... even in the Spanish community! If i watch 5 videos about Sonic Adventure 2.... The 5 videos are saying that it sucks! Just like Super Mario 64... it's just sad for me... So... Overrated is incorrect in my opinion. At least for me, this game was fun (Not the hunting treasure levels...) but i like Sonic adventure (1998) a bit more Other than that, this video is well made 👌
@@sebastiancendoya7854 also you based your thoughts about the common opinion on five videos. Ign's review is a lot more acurate on the common opinion suprisingly, but the story, character animations, mech stages, and treasure hunting stages are all horrible (the story is filled with plot holes and other bs and they ruined the emerald radar.) Also, not enough speed stages
@@SwiftSwelter Not horrible. For me it's competent enough! (I dislike a lot the treasure hunting levels... almost 30 minutes in one level!) And i remember seen more than five videos talking shit about SA2... It's not my favorite 3D Sonic game anyway Lol
Ngl I played both adventurer 1 and 2 on steam for the first time a few years ago. I loved adventure 1, 2 had its moments but also some rough moments particularly the knuckles stages
So is Sonic Unleashed nowadays. I get it was initially over hated when it first launched, but the sonic fandom in general are arbitrarily treating it like it’s the best Sonic game ever made, even though it’s only a third of the game that’s worth playing. By that logic, I guess Sonic Lost World’s a banger too because half of it isn’t off brand…Utterly ludicrous mindset. I’ve never understood it. The werehog is a god of war knockoff and NOT what I want out of a Sonic game. And no amount of gaslighting is gonna change that for me.
THANK YOU BRO You're the one other person I've seen actually bring this up with sonic unleashed fans. Every time I would have favorite sonic game other than unleashed(Especially whenever I brought up frontiers), the community would usually strike me for it and start talking about how underrated and good unleashed is; Honestly made me hate sonic unleashed because of those type of people.
Wherehog wasn't great, for sure, but I think the playstyle itself isn't bad. Level length and the amount of time required to take down some of those enemies is pretty abysmal though. And I'm definitely on the train that if I'm playing a SONIC game, I wanna go FAST. Overall the game definitely deserves to be remembered somewhat positively, because there's some genuinely great stuff here. But I'd be wrong to say there aren't better Sonic games. Oh, and BTW, I played it for the first time 3 weeks ago.
I cannot express my level of disappointment when I first played SA2, especially coming right off Sonic adventure DX, I thought I was in for a treat but was instead met with probably the most unfun Sonic game I’ve played.
I am so glad you made this video because I have the same problem with sa2 when I was playing sa2 and I was in the mood for Sonic stages but then they through me into tales stages and Knuckle stages and I was like okay but it happened and again and again and I was like can we move on to Sonic please
No one can ever just like a sonic game, people are so damn critical to this series, we seriously need to just de-popularize this whole sonic hate thing.
Tbh, I completely agree. I always thought Sonic Adventure 2 was overrated, and I really don't enjoy playing it. It's not the worst game ever, but it's definitely not one I have fun with.
Eh I mean sa2 is overrated but I kinda see the hype for it, it’s why I want remakes of the adventure games and sa3 since there’s alot of ambition. I would also dislike sa2 more if the chao garden didn’t exist, that would just make the game mid to me
Is Chao Garden really that fun? I've seen people praise it like it's the 2nd coming of Christ, but is a (presumebly fun) virtual pet simulator really deserving of such great love? Speaking as someone who's never really gotten into it (by virtue of never playing either of the Adventure games).
@@robertlupa8273 I mean I don’t check it out a lot but I like how much content there is and lore, and especially when the chao world extended mod is enabled. It’s just really fun trying to make something weird or try to make it look like something like a character, and it’s fun replaying levels just to get a certain animal for the chao garden.
I agree with everything you just said, i first played this game 7 years ago, finished it and never touched it again. This game is awful when it comes to everything that isn't Sonic and Shadow. And the fact that the Mech stages are the ones that take the majority of the stages is what ruins the game for me. Tho Team Dark is probably the best part of the game where the mech stages are so good for some reason
9:35 I can never understand why people don’t like the Mech and treasure hunting stages because it’s not a sonic and while people praise the chao garden. Because that’s not what I think when I play a sonic game neither
Because the game FORCES you to play the mech and treasure hunting stages. The chao garden is completely optional and not required to get to the end of the game
Sonic Adventure 2 has the worst controls in any game I’ve ever played by a looong margin. The story may be amazing, but the controls are just atrocious… you fight all the time with the controls, rather than with the levels and the bosses. The game takes a huge nosedive at the end of all the end of the three stories in terms of quality, which just sucks - Crazy Gadget is broken thanks to Sonic not joking correctly, not doing the light dash correctly, and the main gimmick being boring, Final Rush is broken thanks to grinding mechanics being completely broken, Final Chase is broken thanks to the gravity mechanic which sometimes just breaks, and The Finalhazard is just a broken mess of a boss… loving that “you know the homing lasers? What if, right up until you’re to the biolizard they’re normal lasers, and then we make them perfectly catch you with no way of deflecting them?” It transformed what felt like a super epic battle into an annoying slog of what felt, for too many minutes, a fight against my controller and not the Biolizard.
I hadn't played either SA game in a very long time, since I was a kid. Went back to play them again a few years ago and damn... the original one aged SO MUCH BETTER. I couldn't bring myself to get anywhere close to the end of SA2 but I beat SA1 and had a good time doing it. Something about the game just felt really off.
In addition to calling Sonic Adventure 2 overrated, did you also say everyone universally loves Sonic Unleashed, the crappy werehog game that no one actually loves outside a few daytime levels? I'm not even the biggest Sonic fan, but considering the only good 3D Sonic game between SA2 and now, is Sonic Generations (note I said "good," Sonic Colors being mediocre doesn't count), those are pretty controversial words to say. People also forget this game came out in 2001 on the Dreamcast! It's not going to be perfect, but back then, it was pretty damn advanced. It'd be fair to say it's not a flawless game, or even amazing, but it's still the second best 3D Sonic game out there. But to imply Unleashed was better, you lose all credibility with that one.
@@AYTM1200werehog stages were buggy slow had a repetitive pace with a bad level design, more that 70% of the sucks lol sa2 isn't that much better but saying unleashed is better that it, is funny.
@@QORXamqI don't know what bugs you ran into because I and many others didn't in fact I'd argue it's one of the more polished Sonic games and there's no way SA2 can be left out of the conversation when it comes to buggy games. Werehog can at least be leveled up and become fun and short levels you zip through very quickly, not to mention the platformingcan be very good. There's no leveling up or skills you can use to make mech shooting and treasure hunting fun in SA2. Either you like them or you don't. I agree it's repetitive in it's combat because it doesn't force you to vary up your gameplay however there are at least you have tons of combos you can string together, the mech shooting is not only even more repetitive but has nothing can be done to change it. The speed stages aren't safe either, SA1 knew speed was it's weakness so it focuses heavily on platforming whilst SA2 on the other hand focuses on speed but outside rail grinding it doesn't have any innovative ways in which interacts with the player at high speeds. Compare Sonic vs Shadow in SA2 to Generations or the truck chase in SA2 to Generations. High speed action is not the strong suit of the adventure formula. In general Unleashed the alternative gameplay style has room to become fun whereas SA2 is very rigid in what you can do.
What about the hub worlds in SA1 that also severely break the pace of the game. You also say that Knuckles' stages in SA1 are optional, but what do you mean by this, because, if you wanna complete the game, then Knuckles' levels are not optional, you have to do them. You state a preference towards Sonic and speed themed levels, but then go on to say you enjoy Team Dark's playthrough more, which has less speed levels when compared to Hero story. This review doesn't make much sense to me
Fair points lemme try to clarify a bit. Knuckles levels in SA1 are optional if you just want to play sonics levels. Sure you can't get the true ending of the game without playing them but you can still play everything sonics gameplay has to offer. And yes the hub worlds are pace breaking but at least it only takes a minute to get to the next level. I like team dark more because it's consistently enjoyable. It may have less speed stages but it's a consistent experience throughout. I still do like the speed stages more.
@@SFproductions1 Thanks for your response. I watched the whole video because I very much love SA2 compared to SA1, and I like having my opinions tested. But I came away from this video thinking you do not truly believe that SA2 is over rated. You made it sound like you very much enjoy the game. You bring in a guest who loves the game to describe how amazing it's multiplayer is. And then you guys don't even try to counter each other's arguments, which would have been interesting. I dunno, you made it sound like you liked the game, but then at the end, suddenly remembered the title of the video and said games like Lost World are better (without explaining how you think they are better (and I'm an avid Lost World defender, but even I wouldn't go that far)) and then slapped a meaningless number 6 on the game. Remove the title of the video and the numbered rating and what you have here is a fair and great advert for Sonic Adventure 2
I never said I disliked everything in SA2 but when it comes to the mech and treasure hunting stages, which I criticized a ton in my video, those take up the majority of the game. So I think 6/10 is a fair score
I mean to answer these two comments yes the treasure levels are annoying 😂 but for me it’s really not that stressful. Maybe its because I have a lot of patience but I really enjoyed the game and do recommend it.
The biggest impact of Sa2 is that it was the first Sonic game on a nintendo system, and because of that many people's (nintendo kids) first Sonic game. Probably where most of the praise comes from. The game was fairly controversial among the Sonic fans, even at the time, because of how far it strayed from the previous games.
Can't really call this game overrated when it felt like for a good five years every non-Sonic UA-camr and journalist were calling it dated trash.

There's still the issue of 2/3rds of the game not remotely resembling Sonic gameplay.
That won't fix all the problems this game has not even most of them
When I first played SA2 on my Xbox 360 a few years ago, I originally wasn’t much of a fan since I had grown up with the boost games and was not used to how the game controlled or how the physics worked. However, after playing it again some more over the years along with playing SA1, I’ve grown to appreciate both games and how they feel and control. I’ve even grown to like the Mech and Treasure Hunting stages too. SA2 isn’t my favorite Sonic game, but it’s a solid A tier game for me.
Is so funny to that he said " when im playing a sonic game I want to play as sonic " because thats how every sonic fan was doring the dark age era 😂
Ironically it lead to the meta era only letting you play as sonic, which unfortunately kind of sucked, I missed playing as tails or knuckles.
Well, yes. The majority of 2000s fans wanted the extra characters gone. SA2 is ironically the first game to cause this reaction.

Not true. You can beat the werehog levels quickly as well
@@SFproductions1 You most definitely can't.

Unique level design, more open and expansive, way more items and crap to collect and find. Besides the radar being shit and some other things like some stages being way too big.

Sonic gets arrested a second time when he apparently did nothing wrong when he just committed several crimes such as
- murder (he killed the members of the military that were arresting him in the helicopter - probably some other crimes for that, also any military mech drivers in boss fights)
- resisted arrest (same helicopter scene)
- several acts of property damage (piece of metal from helicopter he used as a snowboard, cars on the road, train cars, military robots, military mechs, etc)
- involuntary manslaughter (there were definitely people in some of those cars in city escape. Some were even moving)
- public indecency (Shoes are not enough)
- some kind of traffic law (snowboarding? in the middle of the road and into incoming traffic)
- theft (Those rings do not belong to him)
- escaping from prison (tails and Amy also included for Prison Island)
- kidnapping (When did Tails's parents agree for these adventures?)
But apparently, team dark is in the wrong.

This game has a great story, so I hope we do get those eventual Adventure Remakes one day.
every stage type has the same amount of stages

Yeah, that's how Sonic games used other playable characters before the sa games.
@@Gozan
Even the same platforming sections can be done respectful a characters ability.

LOL I enjoyed this video, but this was basically my response. I also liked the Running staged the most, for sure. But then bro said Green Forest, I was like "Green Forest?!... Ok I guess." Lol
I do get his opinions, I just vehemently disagree.
I will actually walking around singing Pumpkin Hill lol (Guilty Pleasure)

I heavily agree with this opinion as much. The first time when I heard people praising the Adventures games (mostly SA2), I decided to buy them on Steam but when I finally started playing SA2 before SA1…. I knew something started to get boring over time after City Escape and Wild Canyon. Also one of my main problem with the game is like: it’s doesnt follow or doesnt know the essential philosophy on whats the first game is about like for example:
-Amy Rose character change in SA1 to SA2 (personally, she was more useful in the first game than the second cuz she has her own arc/storyline).
-Tails being in a machine while he can just run and defend himself as Sonic
And many more btw.
Speed stages are good but some are very flawed ngl.

And on top of that, 7:28 Funny enough, I appreciate more the Eggman stages than the Tails because it’s fits to Eggman scheme archetype (since he’s a scientist, all the levels who are with technology and labs are actually fitting to his character, fast-paced and short and yeah also kinda fun 👍🏾.

This take is so cold that im storing my leftovers in it.
Which is why I said in the video "this is my opinion and don't let it change yours". People have different tastes in gaming yes

I used to be one of those people who praised SA2 as the greatest thing since sliced bread.

I literally address that in this video. Just because other games do it doesn't make it okay.

You think Knuckles and Rouge are slow?
I don't mean it like that, I just find the treasure hunting levels frustrating and slow. Still a great game though
I will say I agree with the Mech stages being unnecessary but I don’t mind the Treasure hunting since Sonic games have always been a mixture of speed, momentum, and exploration. Also Knuckles and Rouge are just so fun to play around in the wide open treasure hunting levels.
This game is barely what sonic is and did not follow sa1 or even classic sonic
So correct!
You know what they say, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure, that’s adventure 2 for me, I love it so much
No it is not overrated. People who consider it one of the best in general understand each gameplay and accept it as it is. Sonic Adventure 2 will always be divisive for 2 reasons
1: Because it's not entirely what people expect.
And in 3minutes maximum for the A Rank
I don't understand why it would be a problem to have to somehow start from scratch with each treasure especially since the game gives you a very high score for finding a treasure without it being your turn.
And all this gameplay linked by a deep story (which had a better sound mix on Dreamcast and was also more beautiful on Dreamcast, the PC ports are miserable, fortunately there are mods)
We could feel each character through their gameplay and that is something that many fans love.
I understand that you want Sonic gameplay to be normal to an extent but it's other characters that enrich the experience.
I don't think it's nostalgia. There are games that I like less now as an adult like Heroes, on the contrary SA 2 today that I understand it even more I find it even better than when I was little
I can't say Sa2 is Perfect but SA 2 it's too deep to understand in One go.

Honestly yeah, I originally preferred SA2 But then I noticed that the only things I really prefer from SA2 over SA1 is the chao garden because there’s more to do and the gardens are incredible and Shadow
HOWEVER, the gameplay in SA1 would be better (other than big’s stages 🫤) because you have a choice for what type of stages you would want to play, if I don’t wanna play the Amy or big stages, I don’t have to, I can just play the sonic ones, unless obviously I’m trying to 100% the game, whereas with SA2 you have to go though a choice of only 2 stories and both of them include at LEAST one stage that you just don’t wanna play (like the Mech stages…) also SA2 battle mode is also really cool. But personally if you want my opinion, play SA1 first, and then try to see if you can enjoy SA2’s bad stages later and you’ll see what I meam

THANK YOU BRO
You're the one other person I've seen actually bring this up with sonic unleashed fans.
I grew up on skylanders and when i got the chance to play unleashed at a cousin's house the werehog stages felt like a worse version of skylanders tbh

Is SA2 the best Sonic game? No.
Do I still enjoy playing it? Hell yeah!

Valid criticism on a game's flaws ≠ baseless hate

Chao garden was optional. But otherwise, yes, chao garden is perhaps even more unfitting.
Most of those problems are not because of the actual SA2. It's because of the GameCube port

Unleashed is better and his credibility goes up for being one of the few people to admit that.
You’re kind of just trying to counter an opinion with another opinion. It just doesn’t make any sense.
Wrong, loser! Unleashed has its flaws, but it's a masterpiece compared to whatever SA2 was supposed to be.
