My father in law and I hit that beach the day after you guys and had a blast catching fatty perch. Leroy turned us on to your videos and we followed your advice for absolute awesome day. Thanks for putting this info out and congrats on an epic day.
Really good info about the smaller size of the bait going into fall then moving to worms in late fall and winter... Ive gotten a few keeper hali on much smaller baits than those 115s and 110s especially in fall.
Oh yeah Edward!! Love the surf fishing content. Good to see the boys out on the surf! Love it. Nothing better than a heavy backpack walking back from the surf! You guys are killing it!
@@CJSpangler316 I went with the 10’ 7” medium action model. I throw lures from .5oz to 2oz with no issue but would not throw anything heavier. I get more than enough distance even with a .7oz jerkbait and would not see the need to get the 12’ model. If google earth is accurate I can cast a 1.5oz kastmaster 250feet with 8x 30lb braid. Unless you need more distance than that the 10’ 7” should be perfect.
Unbelievable day on the beach, boys. Good to see you today at the Been There Caught That Grand opening, Ed. I think you should talk to Fernando about doing a surf fishing seminar at the store. I think you might be on to something, lol.
Hookups are decent but trebles will land more bites. I catch to harvest so I’m not as worried about damage. If you’re strictly catch and release, inline all the way
Wish I could find a beach this desolate in la county ... Do you guys focus on fishing mainly sandy beaches or reef/structure heavy topography just as much?
Epic day! How loose do you like keeping your drag for stripers when using stock hooks on the Battlestar? I’ve landed a bunch this season (new surf angler) on fairly loose drag and whenever they’re in the wash it feels like they’re getting sucked back out. I don’t typically adjust drag while reeling them in, but started to “stop” my reel by placing my fingers on the spool as I pull them on shore.
It’ll take some experience on your particular setup to know it’s limitations. You shouldn’t have to palm your spool. The stiffer your rod, the lighter your drag should be. Inversely you can run a little tighter on a softer rod that can absorb the shock from headshakes. Also the size of the fish plays a role in how you fight them. You won’t get em all but it sounds like you’re on your way to great results!
I prefer conventional gear for surf fishing with stronger line. It's so convenient to just disengage a clutch instead of flipping a bail in shifting current.
Another good vid! New to stripe bass fishing from shore, you mentioned outgoing tide (so guessing either tide direction can be productive) does it matter what time of day? can I ask what time was this fishing sesh?
This session started 7:30am. I love the morning bite #1 because low light and active fish. #2 low wind. Effectively casting in calm conditions. The tide being near the peak lets the pockets fill in so you’re not only limited to cuts
I have been researching fishing drones, which drop your bait off hundreds of yards from shore. Sure would like some input from the viewers on how they think a fising drone would work for halibut?
@@sammyyourmammy8170 I think I would rather get a remote control boat because how many drops can you really get out of a drone with the battery life? Maybe if you do bait and wait and you soak for a long time. Look up the UA-cam channel hey skipper. He does a video using a remote control boat in the Surf.
Thanks for your content all your videos are awesome wish I can eat them Stripper!!! My Tennis Elbow sucks!!! Haven’t gone out there buy fishing license and only went out there once .. SOB lol
hi, great video, I moved to the Moss Landing area a couple of years ago and want to start surf fishing, have you fishing this are? The Monterey/Santa Cruz area?
South of Rio del mar seems to be better in the bay, but there’s still people catching halibut and stripers and perch elsewhere. Wishing I was one of them… I need to spend more time on the beach, by far my favorite in the saltwater. Im near capitola, what are the beaches in moss landing like?
@@Hook2Cook Well didnt catch anything , the water was extremely dense with sea weed and thick brown foamy stuff ( not sure what it was , looked like oil ) but I am going to Pismo today and trying again.
@Hook2Cook is this south or north of Jalama? Went camping there for the first time and also hooked into my first surf perch using a jerkbait. So much fun!

Do you know the rod/.reel/line setup?
Did you go with the 10 ft or the 12/13 etc ? I was debating on the 12 ft one
