You prolly dont care but does someone know of a way to log back into an Instagram account..? I stupidly lost the account password. I love any tips you can offer me.
@Grant Jesus thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site on google and im trying it out atm. Takes quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Great vid. Next steps: Sand the front area around the crack with 400 wet and dry paper. ($2 for 2 sheets) Apply auto bodyfiller sparingly to the cracks. ($5 for a tub) Sand down with 800 wet and dry paper till the area is even and smooth. ($2 for 2 sheets) Spray the area with plastic primer.($5) 3 coats - light, then heavy then light again allowing to dry between coats. Sand again with 800 wet and dry paper (wet sanding i.e with slightly soapy water to achieve a perfectly smooth finish) Use the color code for your bike color to buy a can of spray paint from an auto paint place ($15.) Spray paint the area. 3 coats - light, then heavy then light again allowing to dry between coats. Finally, spray with a laquer (known as clearcoat) to protect your job from UV, light scratches, water etc. When dry, give a rub with some rubbing compound ($4) and then buff off. This will give a nice shine. Polish and wax as desired. You will never see that there was a crack when finished.
Hey, I came across your repair video, I did exactly the same repair with stuff i had in my garage on my ducati fairing. All before watching your video, workout great.
gotta admit this is a very smart quick fix. Cracked a side fairing on my ducati yesterday trying to r/r battery. Was so distressed i was going to put the bike on ebay. Can't stand imperfection on a m/c. For me a sportbike is as much art work as a conveyance. Now i see this vid. Thanks for taking the time to do this.
I did this exact thing but didn't have the fiberglass tape and first ride after welding broke the damn weld and I'm back to square one smh. Going to buy the fiberglass now
Cheers for this video, you liked to birds with one stone. I was gonna plastic weld, but isn't think of the tape. Also ur mum came up with a cool idea about the stitches too 🎯😎,
I applaud your efforts but would add the following. Never use spot putty on a crack through repair. Use a fiberglass reinforced bondo and use a 2 oz bi fiberglass cloth on the backside of the panel. Otherwise the cracks will come back. Then use an epoxy 2 part primer to ensure paint bonding followed by a few high build coats of primer wet sanding between coats. This will allow all those ugly imperfections from showing through. You can purchase exact match factory paint in a spray can and clear coat. Everything I mentioned can be purchased for about what you spent and you will end up with a factory or better finish. No insults meant. You did a good job. Just suggesting how you could go a bit further and end up with a perfect job.
Interesting approach. If it didn't crack all the way thru and you reinforced the back as well as used some form of epoxy, I doubt it would crack further unless the panel is subject to flexing or moving. My front fender on my new Kawasaki broke. It's a painted part but a "decorative tab" broke off clean when a heavy container fell against the corner. I fully feel and understand your pain and feelings of pissed off! My bike only has 81 miles on since I got it and then this....., Luckily, if I put it back on like a puzzle piece you can barely see the crack. I think this approach with some clear two part epoxy on the back side may do the trick. As an added step, I will add clear film on the outside to help prevent micro chips and future reinforce the repair. Thanks for the video.
I have the same model bike. I got it only about three weeks ago. I had my wheel lock on and forgot. When I moved it it ran into the front fender and put a crack in it. I was kicking myself so hard. A new fender is almost 200 dollars for the original.
My way costs under $5. The simplest and fasted method I have found is.. superglue and bi carb.. put tape as shown in this video, then super glue (internally) wipe off excess and then add the bi-carb on top of the glue, it sets instantly as hard as a rock.. only used on the inside. I have used this as to replace parts of a faring that have bits missing, where I have used tape to make shapes to dam up the areas and then add bicarb to then flood with superglue to add more bicarb as to build up the missing area/part. I have used this way externally on a faring.. it's hard to sand and will need to have a Dremel tool used on it.. this is how hard it becomes... warning... if used externally, will be sanding away plastic before the bicarb/superglue.
You have probably done it now. But you could repair the out side of the crack as well. Also plasafix or supa fix or q bond is very good for fixing cracks
That's ugly, bro. I wouldn't be able to stop staring at that thing until I burned the cash on a replacement. I just bought a set of Chinese fairings for $300. Took out the piece I needed and closed the box for the next mishap. They look absolutely beautiful and I honestly cannot tell the difference.
Why didn't you just plastic weld it and then fill it over the top? Much easier and less weightt, you've added far too much of that stuff and looks hideous :/
I did something dumb too with a brand new plastic street lamp. I tried to save time and labor by not using a ladder, but could not hold the pole in place so it fell of my hands and cracked the lamp. I just used this plastic bonder and wonder if it will hold. I don't want it falling on my head. Would you trust it?
Thanks for your advise and tips! I really respect your honesty and humility. Props for giving your wife credit for the stitches.
Good job guys. Sitting down and waiting and not jumping in and doing a quick and poor job was your best tip. Thanks for taking the time to post.
Thanks for the tips....great advice on reinforcing the crack and drilling holes to stop further cracks running

For a quick and simple fix, you did a great job!
Well done...an affordable and reliable DIY fix. Can't go wrong with mesh and epoxy. Sorry bout the bike...I know the pain of dropping a new bike.
Thanks for the video, very helpful, y’all did a great job! I have to perform the same repair as I dropped my FZ1 last night....
I did this exact thing but didn't have the fiberglass tape and first ride after welding broke the damn weld and I'm back to square one smh. Going to buy the fiberglass now

YEA !!!
Dude nice angles
How’s the repair holding up??
Good job bud. Thanks for your time and sharing your knowledge. 👍🏻
JB Plastic Weld is available from Jaycar electronics in Australia
Very helpful video. Thank you. Now to repair a crack in my old BMW fairing.
This is a suitable repair for fairings, or any plastic panel (ie bumpers). Thanks fir sharing
Helpful info vid. I used Loctite super glue on my cracked fairing. It worked good for me.

For the outside, cant you also put thin layer of plastic bonder then sand it, prime it, paint it etc?
nice, get some sliders from ebay , can help save the bikes fairing if it falls again
Thank you for sharing!!! You saved me some good money.
Good fix. I don’t think it’s necessary to drill the holes. That jb stuff is very strong
Good Job and thanks for showing me how you did it 👍

well done, thats what I like..cheap and decent, what else we need:)
Thank you very much, i’m gonna try it at my fairing

Lol very nice video... thank you. The drill part was awesome. Smart guy
I was looking for this type of videos

Thanks for the vid, better than going to the dealership and breaking the bank
Good cheap fix, thanks for the video
Yeah, I was just saying thanks for the tip on the cracked plastic pieces.
Getting ready to try this on my new to me vfr. Thanks
I'm going to give it a shot, thanks!
Great video man...I have a few parts to fix. Thanks
Have a look into ABS slurry.

That's a sick bike.

Probably didn't want to paint the entire fairing... Bet he didn't want to sand, either... Ugh
Great job....really enjoyed watching this....
Just wanted to say thanks so much!!
Good man thanks for sharing ill give it a shot
Great video
guys 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I've done the same thing. with my footstand.
That's ugly, bro. I wouldn't be able to stop staring at that thing until I burned the cash on a replacement. I just bought a set of Chinese fairings for $300. I’ll bet the jb plastic weld didn’t hold. You gotta plastic weld with heat it if you want a permanent strong job.
Jb is insanely strong
@@dsiz9421 yes, it’s very strong. But it won’t bond to the plastic. So it’s useless
Thank you very helpfull. and convincing
Good cameraman !!!
Good idea, thanks for the video.
Would this work to fill in some holes on a trunk ??
Tell your Dad thanks!!! for this tip...
Thanks for the video was helpful
Thank you, ill try it on the Kawasaki ninja soon
Just happened to my ninja 2!!😥wonder if it's a weakness in production!!
Put a big crack in the side of mine at the bottom today 🥲zx6r
Very useful video
Sergei Drobner your welcome
I use duct tape on the underside of fairing
Good plan keep it up ...
How can I repair a fairings that totally break or I should say cut
rowley cabase you should be able to fix almost the same way. You'll have to make grooves on both sides of the plastic.
Can u come over do mines
Pretty cool thanks
Good job
thanks for the vid
How long it take to dry
About 15 minutes. Been 2 years and its still holding up
Why didn't you just plastic weld it and then fill it over the top? Much easier and less weightt, you've added far too much of that stuff and looks hideous :/
Good job.. now to fix my bike.. my stupidity is drink and drive.. so drive safe people
Poop
