I almost howled with delight to hear this fantastic old tune.🎶🎶 From their 1969 album, " When I Die" this was the title track of their debut album.
One of the most underrated soul singles of the era, from the beautiful horns, the bass line, the drums, wonderful guitars and melody. The vocals are so complimentary to each other and tell a beautiful story. From London, Ontario, this tune made it to Number 18 on the Billboard Hot 100's and Number 1 in Canada. Glad you were groovin, Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and Cynthia 👏👏 Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
Glad you liked it Mary.
@@Cynthia...One of my favourites. Thanks Cynthia. ❤
Oh man, that beautiful Hammond organ and its partner Leslie speaker cabinet! What a great great oldie, thank you so much Cynthia and Harri, well done indeed. Pure fire! 👍🔥💯☮️😎
I’m glad you liked it Craig.
Harri needs to be given honorary citizenship to Canada. So many (mostly lost) gems you have covered now. Maybe try Wildflower by another Canadian band named Skylark with a young David Foster on keyboards.
Great suggestion. 👍 ✌️🎶🇨🇦
Ahh, very nice. I like that. Thanks to Harri and Cynthia.
Thanks Clint.
Thanks Harri, I should have said they are from Canada, London Ontario to be exact. The act remains a one-hit wonder despite two more singles in the top 100 in Canada.
👍🤩❤️
Great pick Cynthia~ I had forgotten this one. Nice to have my brain refreshed !
Thank you Ginny. Hope all is well with you.
Great song. Very under rated band
60s and 70s music can't be beat !
Thank you for the great reaction, Harri, to this mostly forgotten classic! And a huge thanks to you Cynthia for suggesting this one for our honorary Canuck Harri! I am confident that no one on YT has reacted to more Can Con than our man here! And to listen to his reaction on the same day Canada wins bronze in the World Basketball Championship is like Maple Syrup on our pancakes!! Go Canada!
You are welcome @keymack2477. I aim to please.
First time hearing for me 🤔 What a beautifull song and wonderfull harmonies 😊😇 Thank you Cynthia for bringing good Music all the way to Denmark ❤ And Thanks to Harri 🤩
You are welcome Agnete, I am glad that you enjoyed it. 💜
I saw them live at at rock festival in 1969 -they were GREAT!!!
Oh my I have forgotten all about this song! It's so good to hear it after all these years!💯❤️❤️
One of my favorite tunes. So evocative of the late 60s era.
Way to go! One of my all time favourites. I actually got to see them perform it live once.
My all time favorite song...with the great Carol Kay (Wrecking Crew) on bass...great band from Toronto...but formed up in London Ont...a lost classic!!
Wow . . . remember it well. thanks
Thanks Cynthia. It’s great to hear this song. I remember it quite well although I can’t place it in time. It was definitely a popular song here in the states. Nice reaction Harri. Your comments at the end of the video reminded me of how Beatles fans from Liverpool wanted to keep them at home and were reluctant to share them with the world. That didn’t work out for them. Sad and a little amusing 🌺✌️
Thank you, Debbie
Thxs Cindy, great song choice Always dug this great song. Sadly its a forgotten song as many. Baffled why this was a one hit wonder. Have no idea of their background. Another great 60s song believe 69. 68, 69 and 70 were my favorite yrs for music.
Back then, AM radio. I first thought it was Friends Of Distinction, with the Harmony and style. Later finding out it was Motherlode on the Buddah label. Great song hardly played on the oldies stations.
❤Thank you!
Miss Cynthia - Another superb submission with Motherload. Harri, So glad that you liked this first time with The Spinners.
Thank you Mr BZen.
One of my all time favorites as they were formed in London, On in 1969 and broke up in 1970 before the release of their second album. William D Smith went on to have a decent solo career in Canada and the rest of the band members were very successful musicians.
Glad you enjoyed this soulful gem -- as you call it -- Harri. I remember when it came it out in Canada. You wondered what happened to the group. It was led by saxophonist Steve Kennedy, who wrote the song. He went on to become a prominent member of Canadian group Dr. Music and wrote their Canadian hit "Sun Goes By" in 1972, which was an even better song. May I recommend you check this out and react to it on your show. It may be the most over-looked song in pop music history. Steve went on to join Blood, Sweat & Tears. Members of Dr. Music went on to record Black and Ward's "Back Up (Against Your Persuasion)," which is another Canadian hit unheralded outside Canada that will blow your socks off!
Formed in London, Ontario and played in the vibrant Toronto music scene for a while. When Motherlode split some members formed up in the band Dr.. Music. When I Die got heavy airplay on Toronto AM radio channels in 69. This is a classic song.
I'm glad that you found this. I first heard it in 1969 in the US and was instantly taken by it. Where I was it appeared only briefly on the radio, I kept a piece of paper and pen handy should a DJ say the name. I only heard it around 4 times, but the last time I caught the name. Much like your experience with "My Sweet Lord", I spent the next 40 years looking for it, and finally found it thanks to the internet. It is a treasured part of my collection.
I would love you to jam some live funk from the group Brass Construction called "Get Up to Get Down" (The live version)
Motherlode was a Canadian pop rock group formed in 1969. "When I Die" was their biggest hit. They are considered a one-hit wonder though they had a few more singles such as "Memories Of A Broken Promise", "Dear Old Daddy Bill", "I'm So Glad You're You (And Not Me)" etc.
Gotta do! Out in the Ozon e Again by Commander Cody. Hello London 🦌 Detroit says hi 🛣️
