One of the all time great soul songs every written and performed by anyone. At any time. It encapsulates an unselfish love. In an open, honest, and sincere spirit of goodwill. He hopes his woman might someday realize and understand that he was trying his best to be a good man to her. And that it was his way of loving her. Deeply.

Certainly a classic that doesn’t receive the airplay it deserves on oldie format stations

I remember hearing this song in 1969 playing on the piped in speakers at a restaurant in Halifax with my grandmother. There was another young boy staring at me at the next table. He was eating a chocolate sundae. This song takes me back there and I am 51.

Yes... I am a somewhat "soul music historian," and this is definitely one
of the finest SOUL songs ever... One-hit-wonder that it was. I had been
looking for this for years... decades. I turned 13 the year this song was
released. I thought for sure it was a group along the lines of those that
evolved from the 1960s to the 1970s such as Olympics, the Mad
Lads, the Manhattans, the Dells, the Spinners, the O'Jays, the Intruders,
the Originals, and all of them.... Surprise! ~ò,,ó~

this band knocked me out when i was playing in baby garage bands in 1969. later, i played in countless bands just like motherlode. back in the supper club and show band days. shag haircuts and finding ways to rev up the leslie. those were the days.

WOWWW!!!! A great live performance. I haven't heard this song in years. What a time machine.
Come on South Florida radio. Play more of these type of songs on the oldies station. They really lack the dynamics of playing a wide selection of oldies in this market.

I stumbled upon this song while looking for something else on iTunes, and it brought back some excellent memories of some good times long ago. I now have added this beautiful song to my iTunes library. It's good to see this group still playing and sounding just as good as they did over 45 years ago.
