One comment, my dishwasher wasn't filling after the water had been shut off due to a water main break in our neighborhood. Did some additional searching...turns out it was the "Floodsafe" hose that was the issue. After turning off the water at the valve, disconnecting the hose, reconnecting the hose and then turning the water back on VERY slowly water started running to the dishwasher again! Easy, free fix!!!
Thank you so much! I had a bottle cap lodged under my float switch - before this video I didn't know I even had a float switch! So thankful I watched this video - saved me time and money!
Thanks for posting this. Watched the video because my dishwasher wasn’t filling and found a spoon under the float. One second repair! Thanks again!!
I was freaking out! there was a small piece of plastic lodging the float switch open (a knife fell onto the heat source, melting it and breaking of a piece of the plastic handle). I removed the plastic piece of the knife and VOILA! WOW. Easily the most painless fix ever. Literally had a piece of plastic holding the float switch up.
God bless you my dishwasher would not fill with water and could not figure it out as soon as I watched your video I found a fork holding the float up. You guys are awesome!!!!
Thank you for helping us solve the issue with our dishwasher not filling in record time. Our float valve was stuck up high.
Thanks so much! I was getting ready to call the repairman but there was a plastic piece jammed under the float switch. Bingo! Works like a charm!
Thank you! We had a penny stuck under the float switch. Amazingly easy fix.
Omg. Thank you for this video. I was freaking out and your video save me from tearing my dishwasher apart
You guys are awesome! Your 3 tips just save me hundreds of dollars. Piece of plastic stuck under float valve was keeping the washer from filling with water, thank you
thankyou I was going to buy a new dishwqsher then I found the inlet hose had a check valve I would have never thought that there would be a valve you saved me $799
Utube saved me a ton of money and time. My GE float was clogged and it was a simple clean up repair. Now the dishwasher fills and works like new. The secret may be to keep others from filling the dishwasher with extremely dirty dishes.
Before these 3 steps be sure to check for a blocked drain (water will not fill if the drain is blocked - mine had broken glass 🙈).
I replaced the valve first (per this video and it still didn't work) - then googled around and saw something that suggested checking the drain and found broken glass. I still found the useful very helpful.
HA! There was a bit of debris preventing the float from settling back down. Cleaned it up and VOILA works just fine! Wouldn't have thought to check that without your video :)
Excellent video quickly describing three areas that could cause problems from water entering the dishwasher. Thank you for a prompt description. Awesome.
Thank you!!! The float switch was lodged open by a teaspoon. Stainless on stainless under the utensil basket .... sneaky little devil!!!
same.... rofl glad that shits fixed :D
This comment literally made me check my float. And sure as shit there was a tiny juicebox straw under mine! You just saved me a repair person call!
Wow, there was a SMALL CHILD under my float switch.. I had no idea. Now it works great.
Same thing happened to me but it was a whole grown man. He was really thankful after I released him and my dishwasher works much better now.
@@kelliott7864 Thats awesome. More common than I thought.
Thank you this video saved me! It was the float switch!
You're welcome!

Don't forget to check if the water inlet valve is turned off. It looks like a toilet water valve under the kitchen sink and has a water inlet tube that feeds the dishwasher fresh water. Some people turn this off when working on the sink or dishwasher and forget to turn it back on.
Thank you
Thanks a million. There was a toothpick stuck in the float switch lol.
We too were going to buy a new dishwasher... our problem was simple... I had just assumed it was the inlet switch... I replaced it... nope nothing.. so after hearing of the float valve, I checked that... boom, it was clogged. As soon as I set the float back down, I shut the door and viola, water started to flow.... switch was not bad afterall.
I double checked my float switch and found a cocktail fork underneath it. I was about 2 seconds from ordering a new dishwasher !

Miele G5620 SC: When the dishwasher starts, it runs the drain pump as usual and then just hangs when it should be filling with water but isn't. It has an aquastop type fill valve and I have taken the cover off that and it is not getting any power from the machine to open the valve at the point when the machine should be filling. I have replaced the pressure switch but it has not made any difference. I have tested the door switch and it's fine. What's the most likely cause? Capacitor? Circuit board? Something else? Thanks in advance. Peter
Thank you for your video and information. My dishwasher model is
Electriq EQDW60WH
Also check to make sure dishwasher water valve under the sink is on. Mine was off and that's all it was.
Thank you so much, this was our issue, I have spent days searching through youtube and google looking for an answer!!
I literally just did, and it's working 😂. Thank God, I don't have to make any repairs
Went through all the trouble shooting, finally bought a new dishwasher. When that one wouldn't work, I found out my water cutoff valve under sink was clogged all along. The annoying thing is that my building maintenance guy just looked at it a month ago because it was leaking and he said he fixed it; that it was fine. Apparently he didn't check to make sure it was working.
My GE was stuck in drain cycle even when there was no water. The pressure sensor was clogged. I removed kickplate, twisted it off and cleaned it and now the normal cycle is running, although I got an H20 error on the first run. I may get a replacement part entirely (WD21X25468 Pressure Sensor).
That worked!!
Replaced a soap dispenser in my dishwasher. All hooked up just perfect, however the dishwasher does not dispense water? WTF, ANY THOUGHTS?
Hi, can error code 20, also indicate replacing water inlet solenoid?
What should the proper water levels be for each cycle of the dishwasher. I have a GE with 5 cycles and each fill only covers the hub at the bottom that supports the lower spray arm. None of the cycles fill evenly with the heat element or go above it. GE support told me this is normal. Does this sound right to you?
dak That sounds about right. The water only fills the bottom sump area where it is heated if your supply from the water heater is not hot enough (or some models may heat anyway but needs a min. temp of 120 F) and then pumped into the spray arms. The bottom has a water safety switch to stop over filling as mentioned in the video, so will be below this (safety) float switch.
Cost of expenses
I have a GE Profile Dishwasher. Only fills about a gallon of water then stops. I replaced float switch and inlet valve. Any other things to check? I'm thinking either control panel or control board but don't know how to diagnose if it's bad?
The water inlet valve JUST Got Replaced so, It Worked the first time but the second time it operated, It stopped working
Subbed
Thank you so much!
Why does the dishwasher not fill with water even if the filter is clean
I have a brand new Samsung dishwasher which is not dispensing soap & not cleaning properly. And I do get the 4C error at times. I'm suspecting that it has to do with the dishwasher not filling up. But how do I confirm that it is not filling up with water? The dishwasher is so quiet that hard to determine what is going on inside.
7-22-16 I relocated hose 3 x's now, & the water if filling in dw Kenmore after the load is done, slowly....Now I see it can be inlet water valve, which I've been told can not be the reason, by a former repair man. What say you? I can't locate the part # on Sear's scramatic either.thanks
In my case, I just poured couple jar of waters inside my dishwasher and started. After the first wash (it's called pre-wash cycle I guess), the dishwasher started drawing water from the pipe system. So it was simply fixed!
Sorry but what you did to fix it wasn't why it worked.
Vivalaleta Godfrey I agree that shit made no sense at all! Lol
It does make total sense if you have airlock in the system. Nothing wrong with this solution. It is extremely helpful if you have had a water supply outage and there is air in the waterline. Good tip, Kami.
wow! I tried everything for a week, and then this comes up. It made sense since I took out all the water when it didnt want to flush out. Made my week this one!
Trying this now in case of airlock problem. Well out for 10 days and air in the system. First wash load was fine but second load not and not filling with water. I hope it was a siphon thing as I manually filled and it's on the soap-wash right now...
So you say "inspect water supply line" I dont know what that means, where it is, or how to inspect it
You can check the water supply line by following your water inlet valve, to the water inlet hose, which should be connected to a water outlet valve. You will be able to turn it to open and close the water. You will want to check the water pressure or if the valve is closed.
Sir indesit dishwasher drain pump continues running but water not coming inside which problem sir?
My Samsung dishwasher will not fill with water at all. Samsung DW 80K5050US. Any suggestions please
I don’t see a float switch.
Help
Request request dishwasher
When we turn the dishwasher on it makes a thumping noise and then acts like it wants to add water but it won’t fill in pretty soon it just shuts off sometimes we get a light on it that will flash three times we don’t understand what that’s all about
I'm having the same issue
Valve tested OK as did the float switch, and the float moves freely. Still not filling with water even after replacing the valve since had one on hand...
120 PSI???? That will burst all my pipes!
he said 20! clean out your ears!!
I'm surprised that you didn't mention a broken or jammed float rather than a malfunctioning switch. In our Samsung dishwasher, the float is right under the cutlery basket. If you have a fork or something slip through the bottom of the basket in the vicinity of the float and couple that with an 11 year old boy, the resulting impulsive reefing on the drawer while loading the dishwasher can result in the shaft of the float being snapped off. While this is vaguely related to a "malfunctioning float switch" it's not the switch that's defective in such a scenario and diagnosing this issue is much simpler than disassembling the machine and testing the switch with a continuity tester or multimeter. Additionally, the switch will test just fine. On the other hand, the float shouldn't normally just lift out of the tub freely. There's normally a small flange on the bottom of the shaft to prevent it from being pulled out. I can't be the only dishwasher owner with an 11 year old boy.
I note that the comments is also filled with people in possession of pennies, bottle caps, forks and even *entire people* which they sometimes store underneath their float switch. Again, much easier diagnosis and seemingly common problem that I'm surprised didn't make it into the video. It's not always the switch. It's very often the float that's the problem. Having said all that, I do appreciate the resources you provide. Keep up the great work!
Check that you didn't recently turn off the water supply 🤔😜
Friggin so easy lol
